Lanzarote
Advantages: A fantastic holiday for people of all ages
Disadvantages: None at all - i love the place!!
...If your looking for sun, sea, sand and sangrias for your hols this year but your on a 'credit crunch' style budget then Lanzarote may be the one for you! I have visited Lanzarote twice, once as a child and once in October last year and have fallen in love with the place. We stayed in Playa De Los Pocilos which is a small quiet town just outside the main capital of Puerto Del Carmen which is the place to visit if you are after a more lively holiday. Towns such as Costa Tequise, Playa Blanca and Playa De Los Pocillos are for the more quieter folk.
Lanzarote is the fourth largest canary island situated approximately 125km off the coast of Africa so you're guaranteed the sun at least! The great thing about this island is that the whole island is only 60km north to south and 25km east to west so you can pretty much cover the whole island...

LANZAROTE
Advantages: breathtaking, facinating, clean, plenty to do, beautiful beaches
Disadvantages: none
...LANZAROTE.
Whilst browsing through our trusty Thomson holiday brochure we came across a section for Lanzarote. We knew of the name but had no idea where it was or what it was like and so looked it up on the internet.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Where is it?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canary Islands and is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, just 70 miles off the coast of Africa. The Canary Islands are classed as a part of Spain and are the result of volcanic eruptions. Lanzarote is just 37 miles long and 12 miles wide.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The view?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
We knew the Island was going to be Volcanic but hadn't anticipated quite how spectacular it would look. During our transfer from the airport we got a taster of what the Island was like and we couldn't tear our eyes...

I love Lanzarote! ...Fact!
Advantages: Great weather, great scenery, all round great holiday!
Disadvantages: None!
...stay when I visit. It is a quiet town, on the east of the island and around a 15 minute drive from the airport. There are plenty of shops, resturants and sandy beaches there. It is nearby Teguise which is a small, traditional town with lots of cobbled streets, old buildings and churches to discover. Every Sunday morning Teguise is home to a huge, traditional market where you can pick up pretty much anything.
So what else is there to do and see in Lanzarote?
A must do is Timanfaya National Park which is situated on the north west side of the island. I took this paragraph from discoverlanzarote.com - "The Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains) were created between 1730 and 1736 when more than 100 volcanoes, covering more than 50 km², rose up and devastated this part of the island (including several villages)".
You drive right out into...

SUNSHINE ALL DAY (FOR ME) AT THE SOL LANZAROTE
Advantages: fantastically huge balcony, nice rooms, next to beach, friendly cleaning staff
Disadvantages: reception staff fairly unfriendly, luck of draw if you get a good balcony, choice of food
...***INTRODUCTION - WHY THE SOL LANZAROTE???***
In October this year, me and Marymum (that's what I call her since her name's Mary and she's my mum) went to Lanzarote for what I felt for me was a well-deserved week in the sun after a very hectic year. The two years previous I had been on two holidays a year and this year I only got one so I was REALLY looking forward to it, as you might imagine!
I pretty much left it up to Marymum to book something as it was her who was paying - the only stipulations I gave was that it had to be the Canaries or Cyprus. After all, if I was only getting one holiday (she's had about five this year already, honestly!!!) I wanted guaranteed sunshine, and Benidorm, which was her choice, just wasn't necessarily going to cut it, whereas I knew the others were far more likely to deliver in mid October. So...

"Lanzarote as a non-beach holiday" Discuss
Advantages: Plenty to see, especially if you like vulcanology and Manrique!
Disadvantages: Pity it rhymes with 'grotty' cos it isn't
...your subject first, and
b) For not getting off your arse once you got there.
Anyway, lecture over, and as you can imagine, I DIDN'T stay in Puerto del Carmen; in fact I didn't stay by the coast at all. Having said that, nowhere in Lanzarote is far from the sea. At 817 square kilometres, it's just over twice the size of the Isle Of Wight, my favourite yardstick for island measuring - perhaps I should invent a new unit called the IOW or Vectis, so that would bring Lanzarote out at '2.3 Vectii'. Just don't get me started on Australia.
WHERE IS IT?
Lanzarote is one of the inhabited chain of Canary Islands, which, whilst technically part of Spain, sits off the Moroccan coast in the Atlantic, some way south of Madeira. Lanzarote is the closest to North Africa at around 90 miles from land and 200 miles from the Moroccan port of Agadir...

Lanzarote - like holidaying on another planet
Advantages: Stunning landscape, relaxing and plenty to see
Disadvantages: Wind and dust
...For our first trip away this year we decided to spend a week in Lanzarote on the recommendation of my father and some of our closest friends. We have been to mainland Spain and the Balearics but never considered the Canary Islands for some unknown reason. My father went there last year and commented "I don't know why we didn't spend more family holidays there - it's so relaxing". Having just come back from Lanzarote I totally agree with him.
About Lanzarote:
Lanzarote is the most easterly of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, only 60 miles from the coast of Africa. Lanzarote is made up of seven municipalities: Arrecife (the capital), Teguise, Haría, San Bartolomé, Tías, Tinajo and Yaiza, with a population of approximately 100,000. Fishing and agriculture was once the mainstay of the island's economy but have since...

Lanzarote is the perfect family destination
Advantages: Stunning views, lovely locals, fab weather, lots of fun
Disadvantages: 11 nights wasn't long enough!
...Having not long returned from 11 nightsin Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, we are already planning our holiday there next yr! Myself, my husband and 6yr old son had a fantastic time. We toured the entire island finding beautiful little coves and lagoons to swim in ( some of them u would think u were in the carribean). So much to explore for such a small island. Timanfaya National Park which has the islands only active volcano and miles and miles of volcano rock from eruptions hundreds of years ago, the water park in costa teguise, i could go on.. Weather was fab, upto 40 degrees but with a lovely breeze to keep u feeling fresh. The locals were lovely, we visited a beautiful restaurant in Puerto Del Carmen twice and the lovely waiter rememberred us! He was full of knowledge about the island and couldn't do enough to make our visit to...

Lanzarote - not Lanza-grotty!
Advantages: Good weather all year round, friendly locals, good value
Disadvantages: Becoming increasingly commercialised with too many "Brit" bars, etc
...I first went to Lanzarote when I worker in a home for adults with learning disabilities. I would probably never have chosen to go there myself but the boss had spotted a good deal so it was off to Puerto del Carmen, the island's chief resort for two weeks of sun.
Don't think that this was just a paid holiday. With one lady in a wheelchair and two others clients with mobilty restrictions, there was no rest for the staff. However, supporting people with profound disabilities is slighty more fun when you're doing it in the sun!
I must have liked my first taste of Lanzarote because, boyfriend in tow, I went back the following year. I'm glad I did; we did have a lovely time on the residents' holiday but mobility problems meant that there were some things we couldn't realistically do and I decided to go back to do those very things...

Bid for Lanzarote Winter Sun
Advantages: Warm, Sunny, Dry , Bright. Fresh
Disadvantages: A bit breezy
...GUINATE
Our latest holiday in the Canary Islands, was this time to be in the resort of Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote.
For anyone who has ever had doubts about booking a holiday via the internet rather than using the travel agent, then in my experience the holiday here was not any different in respect of the actual holiday itself. You still get a rep and welcome meetings etc. Our holiday was obtained via auction on the internet at www.lateescapes.com who have recently been bought over by Airtours. Also bought over by Airtours is Direct Holidays.
Direct Holidays, Airtours & Going Places has been renamed MY TRAVEL, but it does keep its identity to an extent. You will shortly see that all the Going Places shops will replace their signs with new ones saying My Travel.
Anyone who goes to the Late Escapes web site or Direct Holidays...

Lanzarote - The Truth
Advantages: Warm, inexpensive, fun, enjoyable - live here!
Disadvantages: None
...After 8 holidays to the Canary Island of Lanzarote my wife and I decided to move to the Island. Why? Well it was not believe it or not simply because of the all year round warm spring-like temperatures, but this was one of many reasons we adopted the "you only live once attitude" We lived in the United Kingdom both had good jobs; my wife was a retail manager and I was a partner in an insurance agency, we earned good money but there was something missing. Our wages seemed to be continually being drained by our mortgage, our £900.00 per year council tax, heating bills, electricity bills, water bills, excessive petrol, alcohol prices the list seemed endless. Every day the postman would bring bills it seemed. Now don't get me wrong, we could afford these things but we were both working six days a week, by the time we got home from work we...
