Lanzarote

Advantages: A fantastic holiday for people of all ages
Disadvantages: None at all - i love the place!!

...Lanzarote and not possibly go on a camel ride, its a must!! Spitting is a slight problem from the camels but its all very safe and well organised. The camels getting up and back down again make for an interesting ride! The rides are located near Timanfaya National Park and are pretty good value for money. Each camel takes two people - both of which have to be around the same weight as you sit on chairs either side of the camel - so you have to balance each other out! This is an experience I would recommend for all. The beaches contain golden sand unlike those of the other Canaries and you are pretty much guaranteed sunshine all year round. Most of the locals speak English so the language barrier is not a problem and the local currency is Euros as like the rest of Europe. Taxis are cheap and buses regular. Costa Teguise beach is...

LANZAROTE

Advantages: breathtaking, facinating, clean, plenty to do, beautiful beaches
Disadvantages: none

...LANZAROTE. Whilst browsing through our trusty Thomson holiday brochure we came across a section for Lanzarote. We knew of the name but had no idea where it was or what it was like and so looked it up on the internet. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Where is it? ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canary Islands and is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, just 70 miles off the coast of Africa. The Canary Islands are classed as a part of Spain and are the result of volcanic eruptions. Lanzarote is just 37 miles long and 12 miles wide. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ The view? ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ We knew the Island was going to be Volcanic but hadn't anticipated quite how spectacular it would look. During our transfer from the airport we got a taster of what the Island was like and we couldn't tear our eyes...

Aqua Park, Lanzarote

Advantages: Ques aren't too big
Disadvantages: Quite a bit away from the main resort of Puerto Del Carmen

...We went to the water park in Late September 2005 and it was ok. I've been to a few other water parks and to be honest this was probaly on of the lowest ranking.. The park was quite quiet but that meant you didn't have to qu for lone to get on a slide. They asked on the gate how many sunbeds you wanted and you paid there and then. Maybe in the busy summer months you need to, but the sunbeds were all over the park, they weren't numbered and no-one checked your ticket, so you could have as many as you want when you get in there! The pools were cold, as the Park is in Teguise which is known to be breezy so don't come to lie and sunbath. Beware though this is when you get burnt without realising. There were enough rides to keep most people happy. The life-guards were fewer than I expected but they did seem on the ball. There were also...

I love Lanzarote! ...Fact!

Advantages: Great weather, great scenery, all round great holiday!
Disadvantages: None!

...stay when I visit. It is a quiet town, on the east of the island and around a 15 minute drive from the airport. There are plenty of shops, resturants and sandy beaches there. It is nearby Teguise which is a small, traditional town with lots of cobbled streets, old buildings and churches to discover. Every Sunday morning Teguise is home to a huge, traditional market where you can pick up pretty much anything. So what else is there to do and see in Lanzarote? A must do is Timanfaya National Park which is situated on the north west side of the island. I took this paragraph from discoverlanzarote.com - "The Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains) were created between 1730 and 1736 when more than 100 volcanoes, covering more than 50 km², rose up and devastated this part of the island (including several villages)". You drive right out into...

Wild west in the Canary Islands!?

Advantages: Good few hours out, good selection of animals, recommend if you have children
Disadvantages: Lack of shade, too expensive, good effort with bird shows but weren't up to scratch, white tigers?

...Rancho Texas is a themed park which can be located on the most easterly Canary Island, Lanzarote. You'll probably notice Rancho Texas advertised around the island - in leaflets and even on the luggage trollies at the airport! It is situated on the outskirts of Puerto Del Carmen and can be reached easily by car or bus. As the name suggests the park is based around the state of Texas and has a wild west theme. This paragraph is taken from the Rancho Texas website "In 1731, Canarian emigrants established the city of San Antonio in Texas. 40 of these emigrants were from Lanzarote. They were the first ascendents of the actual State of Texas, USA. The first mayor was a man from Lanzarote. Many Canarian descendants fought and died in the historic Battle of Alamo, together with Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. Rancho Texas Park, Lanzarote...

Mother nature at her best

Advantages: Unique and breathtaking views, fantastic demonstrations
Disadvantages: None worth mentioning

...Timanfaya National Park is set on the most easterly Canary Island, Lanzarote. It can be found to the west of the island, nearby the town of Yaiza. Lanzarote originally rose from the sea in the form of a mass of volcanoes so it's understandable that to this day the island is still home to a lot of volcanoes - more than 300 infact. Some of these volcanoes have blown and some of them are still very much alive. Timanfaya National Park gives an up close insight into both. I have been to Timanfaya National Park numerous times, sadly - I have a 'thing' for volcanos, I just find them really interesting (although I think this was originally sparked by the Timanfaya experience). However I will be basing this review on the last time I visited in May 2009. The island is small (only 37 miles long and 12 miles wide) so it is easy to find...

Timanfaya National Park

Advantages: A must see of the island - great views
Disadvantages: Limited access - Tour coach and limited private car hire access ( must walk after a while! haha)

...On a recent holiday to the island of Lanzarote, listening to other peoples experiences we felt it was a must to visit the islands national park of Timanfaya. The coach ride was approx 20mins from where we were stayin in Playa Blanca (the southern tip of the island). We were greeted at the entrance of the park by a carving of the devil (the symbol of the park) the parks restaurant is a must see, experiencing the heat of the huge circular grill, which uses soley the heat from the volcano. This is achieved due to magma still being in the chamber below the earth surface (very uncommon) this lets the open grill achieve temperatures of around 300C. We also experienced experiments using the volcanos heat including holding the volcanic stone which was still hot and we were asked to hold the stone as long as we could! Very hot so wasnt held...

"Lanzarote as a non-beach holiday" Discuss

Advantages: Plenty to see, especially if you like vulcanology and Manrique!
Disadvantages: Pity it rhymes with 'grotty' cos it isn't

...-pimples. It goes without saying that, windy or not, sun tan lotion is strongly recommended, in fact especially when it's windy, as this lulls you into thinking that the sun isn't hot. SO WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE PLACE? In common with its larger family members, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, its origins are volcanic, having risen from the sea millions of years ago, from an offshoot of the Central Atlantic Ridge, which more or less runs from Iceland to Antarctica. Its volcanic activity could be termed dormant or inactive, since there hasn't been any kind of eruption for about 300 years. However, in geological terms, this is but a pin-prick on the left buttock of time. There's nothing extinct about Lanzarote's volcanic activity, as anyone who's had their lunch cooked by geothermal energy in the Timanfaya National Park will testify. What...

Lanzarote is the perfect family destination

Advantages: Stunning views, lovely locals, fab weather, lots of fun
Disadvantages: 11 nights wasn't long enough!

...Having not long returned from 11 nightsin Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, we are already planning our holiday there next yr! Myself, my husband and 6yr old son had a fantastic time. We toured the entire island finding beautiful little coves and lagoons to swim in ( some of them u would think u were in the carribean). So much to explore for such a small island. Timanfaya National Park which has the islands only active volcano and miles and miles of volcano rock from eruptions hundreds of years ago, the water park in costa teguise, i could go on.. Weather was fab, upto 40 degrees but with a lovely breeze to keep u feeling fresh. The locals were lovely, we visited a beautiful restaurant in Puerto Del Carmen twice and the lovely waiter rememberred us! He was full of knowledge about the island and couldn't do enough to make our visit to...

SUNSHINE ALL DAY (FOR ME) AT THE SOL LANZAROTE

Advantages: fantastically huge balcony, nice rooms, next to beach, friendly cleaning staff
Disadvantages: reception staff fairly unfriendly, luck of draw if you get a good balcony, choice of food

...***INTRODUCTION - WHY THE SOL LANZAROTE???*** In October this year, me and Marymum (that's what I call her since her name's Mary and she's my mum) went to Lanzarote for what I felt for me was a well-deserved week in the sun after a very hectic year. The two years previous I had been on two holidays a year and this year I only got one so I was REALLY looking forward to it, as you might imagine! I pretty much left it up to Marymum to book something as it was her who was paying - the only stipulations I gave was that it had to be the Canaries or Cyprus. After all, if I was only getting one holiday (she's had about five this year already, honestly!!!) I wanted guaranteed sunshine, and Benidorm, which was her choice, just wasn't necessarily going to cut it, whereas I knew the others were far more likely to deliver in mid October. So...
