Larnaca wow what an experiance

Advantages: you won't get lost
Disadvantages: too few seats!!

...I have used Larnaca airport a number of times, as at one time due to my husbands job we were living in Cyprus. I can best describe Larnaca airport as a warehouse with a few slight upgrades. If you arrive early for your check in you will be hard pressed to find a seat to rest your tired bones, but you will find quite a nice little shop where you can stock up on a few sweeties for the flight, but be warned the shop is only big enough for about 3 people so don't take your whole family in to choose goodies. You will also see a few security men standing around looking important, my most scarey exerpiance in Larnaca airport was when the sercurity men were standing around being busy looking powerful and I was sat (yes sat I was one of the fastest to the seats)watching a man empty his suitcase of certain items of clothing all bunched up...

Not an experience to be repeated

Advantages: Wonderfully cheap range of duty free items
Disadvantages: Small, hot and very crowded

...I used Larnaca airport just after the opening of the new terminal. I found it to be too small, very crowded and totally disorganised. We arrived in good time for checking in, about two hours before flight departure, yet our check-in desk did not open until about 45 minutes before departure. The JMC representatives did not have a clue where we were supposed to be checking in, and kept giving us contrasting information. The airport staff were even less helpful. It was not a good environment to try and sort yourself out, whilst trying to keep a watchful eye on two bored 11 year olds. The check-in desk was slow and unhelpful, and the staff appeared ill-informed as to what was happening. The departure lounge was too small, very hot, and standing room only remained. Get me a dozen eggs

Advantages: One of the top ten wreck dives
Disadvantages: Not as good as the Red Sea

...however while anchored in Larnaca Bay the problem re-surfaced (excuse the pun) and the ship had to be abandoned. In all it took two days for the wreck to sink still containing it's cargo of over a100 huge lorries and trailers loaded with goods. The Dives At 178 meters long it is impossible to dive this wreck in a single dive, indeed many divers will spend all week diving the Zenobia to the exclusion of everything else Cyprus has to offer. As I first descended onto this wreck the very breath was sucked from my lungs as I stared in awe at the huge structure beneath me. As this was the first dive the plan was to drop down to the sea bed at 40 meters and spend the limited bottom time looking at the few lorries that are on the outside, what is amazing is the sight of still intact eggs littering the ocean floor and I even caught sight...

Worst Airport Ever

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Small overcrowded airport

...Me and my family all decided to go to Cyprus for a week, so we got a flight to Larnaca Airport, The east side of Cyprus. When we began to land we went around in one big circle as we went straight past the airport and went all the way to Protaros then we turned back round. We then began to head for the runway and I thought the airport was an old factory-like place as it was nothing ive ever seen before. The terminals were very small and it didnt look modern like most other airports. We then got off the plane and we saw these young airport workers wizzing around the airport on motpeds. We got on a bus which just took us like 50 metres to the building, was it really worth a bus for that short distance. Anyway when we got in, there was just 1 room where you collect your baggage and your outta the airport. When finishing the holiday...

Gatwick - Larnaca Sept/Oct 2006 NEVER AGAIN!

Advantages: Friendly staff, Very cheap, flights arrived on time (offpeak season).
Disadvantages: FAR TOO CRAMPED! Ageing plane, food,

...Larnaca was disorganised and total chaos. Took 2 hours to check in as there where no defined queues!! In my opinion, the disadvantages totally outweighed the advantages and I believe animals get better treatment when travelling. I believe all airlines must abide by a certain set of passenger comfort rules which seems to be bypassed with all the no frills airline. Cost should not be a factor there. My only extreme concern was the age of the plane and safety, although getting DVT came a very close second!!...

Advantages: Spacious seats, choice of economy or business class, good onboard facilities.

Excel - Cyprus-ingly good

Advantages: Quick check in at Gatwick, good food, reasonable price
Disadvantages: Cramped seats, worrying anouncements from the captain

...Booking - I had never heard of Excel, but discovered them on a flight comparison site. They fly twice a week from Gatwick to Larnaca, and for the dates that we were looking at were about £100 cheaper than BA and Cyprus Airways, and the flight times were better. I booked on the XL.com website, which was simple. The cost is showed at all stages including tax, which is very clear. As we chose not to book an in-flight meal (of which more later) the flights were £170 each. Check in and boarding- at Gatwick, there were five check in desks open, and not one person waiting to check in - result! We were asked what type of seat we wanted, and were allocated a window and aisle seat together. Following 30 minutes at security and last minute shopping, we arrived at the gate and boarded the aircraft on time. At Larnaca there were only three...

...I have never written a review but find that my recent experience deserves one, To cut to the chase we have flown with KTHY on at least 15 occassions since 1999 and have first hand experience of the service going from bad to worse, but surprise surprise this is a good review. We have a villa near Kyrenia and normally visit at least twice a year, flying in to Larnaca and taxi to the north, checking prices from our closest airports came as a bit of a shock (maybe fuel costs etc) so i checked out KTHY website found the dates and duly booked oin their new e/ticket system, arrived at Heathrow no waiting and got the seats that we had chosen Exit seats at no extra cost !!. flight on time and even a smile on boarding (my wife suggested i check my fly) as this is the first time we have had a welcome. Lovely flight and even a decent meal for once...
