A Grand Time In Gran Canaria
Advantages: weather, sun, sea and sand
Disadvantages: my one cockroach
...Ingles in a nut shell, a genuinely nice place to stay, but also very much worth visiting the neighbouring resorts to discover their beauty also.
I was really interested in exploring the Island and seeing the other resorts, such as Las Palmas, Puerto Rico, and the mountains that occupy Gran Canaria and their highest mountain point in Pozo De Les Nieves.
To do this I had to hire a car. Canaria Autos were recommended to me, to which I hired a jeep which cost me 60 euros a day, and after haggling a little, I was able to hire it for three days at the cost of 140 euros, not too bad I thought. I found the company very professional, and the jeep to be very trustworthy and more importantly roadworthy.
Now that I had wheels, my first visit, the beautiful town of Las Palmas.

Liked it... Liked it Less after 5 hours!
Advantages: Clean, Good Selection of Shops & Restaurants for the size, Easily Accessible.
Disadvantages: Uncomfy Chairs!
...During my June trip to Gran Canaria I had the "pleasure" of being delayed within the airport for 5 hours which gave me plenty of time to fully note and evaluate all the amenities within it - therefore I feel a bit of an expert on this topic thanks to First Choice! In my vast experience of airports - from little more than a shack on the island of Zante to the posh heights of JFK in America - I'd have to say that for a small island Las Palmas airport isn't half bad!
Las Palmas airport was built in the 1930's and belongs to the Aena Airport group, which also has airports throughout Spain and Portugal. It's been voted the top airport of all the Canary Islands in light of passenger traffic, cargo and aircraft movements. It also operates 24 hours a day all year round and has been voted one of the safest airports in the EU. There are...

Paradise in the Atlantic
Advantages: Peaceful, Relaxing, Magnificent weather, beaches
Disadvantages: A bit overcrowded sometimes
...Las Palmas has always been one of my most favourite short holiday destinations. Situated just of the coast of Morocco, it is located on one of the islands that make up the Canary Islands (Gran Canaria as they are referred to by the Spanish).
Las Palmas although closest to Morocco is a territory of Spain.
I have visited Las Palmas a total of eight times in the last ten years and my most recent visit was last year in December. I intend to go there again this December.
So what attracts me to Las Palmas and why am I not sick and tired of the place that I have frequented eight times already?
I was addicted to this place the moment I landed at the airport. The warmth of the air and the coolness of a mild wind is what greeted me when I disembarked from the flight. Unlike other major airports that have these intricate corridors that...

Gran Canaria. Really GRAND holiday!
Advantages: It has the wow-factor!

Gran Canaria
Advantages: Loads to do
Disadvantages: none
...I have just come back off my holiday to the amazing resort Playa del Ingles. I walked along the Dunes at Maspalomas. I would differently go back there again.
There is something for everyone at Gran Canaria for example mini-golf, swimming, go-karting for kids and for others windsurfing, sea fishing, scuba diving, jet skiing, golf, tennis and squash. They also have waterparks and camel safaris plus zoos. Three of the main zoos are Palmitos Park, Reptilandia Park and Parque De Crocodilos.
First of all there is no time difference. You need no jabs.
The buses are very cheap and come regularly. Car hire is available and petrol is 31p per litre.
Tempratures on average are between 65-75F. The coolest months are from December to April, but even then the lowest it gets is 70F. Summer tempratures are from 75-80F. This...

Shopping In Palma Is An Experience
Advantages: Lots to see, interesting sites mixed in with shopping, so you get both
Disadvantages: Easy to get lost in Arab Quarter
...Palma on the Island of Majorca is a great place for shopping and doing a bit of sight seeing.
We were staying in Palma Nova and being past the age when drinking all day in pubs and clubs, then flaking out on the beach seems a good way to spend a holiday, decided to find some 'civilized' life for a change.
There are buses from all round the Island into Palma. The City itself is big. Everything is so spread out in the modern part and we found ourselves walking a long way to find major department stores and designer shops on the main road. However, we eventually found a wonderful shopping area in the old Arab Quarter of the City.
This area is a maze of alleyways and small shops of all kinds. There are designer shops selling everything from shoes to hair accessories and woolly jumpers to delicate lingerie. It is very easy to get...

Gran Canaria for those with Gran Hunger
Advantages: Year-round sun not too far from home
Disadvantages: Having to come back home again!
...If you want to eat well in the Puerto Rico area, here is some help.
The Islands
=
The Canary Islands as a group, lie just off the African coast although very Spanish in every way.
Having been to Gran Canaria several times, it is where we will focus in this review.
Gran Canaria
Flying into Las Palmas airport is usually a brilliant experience itself.
A few clouds will probably be sitting on the top peaks of this volcanic island - but the rest will be crystal clear - just like the sea around it.
The tourists who simply lie on the beach for the rest of their stay, are to be pitied, if undestood. Understood, because the weather is superb most of the year, the water very warm and the rest probably well-earned. But pitied because they do not know what they are missing.
Travel the island and you have...

Divas Las Vegas - Belinda Jones
Advantages: An OK read
Disadvantages: Dissappointing!!
... DIVAS LAS VEGAS
BELINDA JONES
I have always loved Belinda Jones books, and I have read near enough all of her books: I Love Capri, On The road to Mr Right, The Paradise Room, Out of the Blue, The Love Acadamy, Cafe Tropicana and now Divas Las Vega. The only book of hers I have left to read is The California Club (and the new book which she has coming out soon).
I'm not quite sure where Divas Las Vegas comes in the line of her books, it could very possibly be one of, if not, her first book.
I loved all of Jones' previous books, they have all been amazing, and have really captured my imagination, this book was very different and I must say, it isn't the best of her work.
Plot:
Izzy and Jamie have been best friends since they were little girls, for 20 years. And now at 27 they are still as close as ever...

Las Vegas Opulence
Advantages: Luxurious rooms, dining, fountain show, service
Disadvantages: Check in and general bedm in reception.
...For me only the Bellagio would do once we had decided to visit Las Vegas as the second stop on our honeymoon just over two years ago. The hotel featured in the Oceans' 11 film which I loved and I was particularly looking forward to seeing that famous water fountain show.
The hotel is located roughly half way along the main Strip area in Vegas, it has an Italian theme and is beautiful to look at from the outside. It is set back from the street and the front of the building gently curves around "Lake Como". Providing it is not too windy, from 3pm in the afternoon the fountain show runs every fifteen minutes making for excellent photo opportunities and selling lots of postcards.
Booking and prices
We organised our whole trip with Kuoni a few months in advance. Strangely in this modern age, we had to wait a few days...

Voranova Apartments Palma Nova
Advantages: Dirty, old, only cleaned once a week
Disadvantages: The pool
...The Voranova hotel was about half an hour from the airport and cost about 25euros, split between two, so wasn't too bad as the hotel transfer coach you could also book cost as much together and took about 2 hours stopping at every hotel that existed!
The hotel was in a good location, a few minutes walking distance from Palma Nova town centre and the beach. It was also about 10-15minutes walk to the centre of Magaluf. We got a bus to Palma City one day and this took about 45 minutes and was very crowded.
Just across the road from the hotel was a large supermarket and several shops including a pharmacy, there was also a taxi rank and bus stop.
The hotel being in Palma Nova rather than Magaluf was good as it wasn't too noisy and busy at night. There were plenty of small bars and resturants in Palma Nova. The hotel also had...
