A Grand Time In Gran Canaria
Advantages: weather, sun, sea and sand
Disadvantages: my one cockroach
...Ingles in a nut shell, a genuinely nice place to stay, but also very much worth visiting the neighbouring resorts to discover their beauty also.
I was really interested in exploring the Island and seeing the other resorts, such as Las Palmas, Puerto Rico, and the mountains that occupy Gran Canaria and their highest mountain point in Pozo De Les Nieves.
To do this I had to hire a car. Canaria Autos were recommended to me, to which I hired a jeep which cost me 60 euros a day, and after haggling a little, I was able to hire it for three days at the cost of 140 euros, not too bad I thought. I found the company very professional, and the jeep to be very trustworthy and more importantly roadworthy.
Now that I had wheels, my first visit, the beautiful town of Las Palmas.

Gran Canaria
Advantages: Loads to do
Disadvantages: none
...I have just come back off my holiday to the amazing resort Playa del Ingles. I walked along the Dunes at Maspalomas. I would differently go back there again.
There is something for everyone at Gran Canaria for example mini-golf, swimming, go-karting for kids and for others windsurfing, sea fishing, scuba diving, jet skiing, golf, tennis and squash. They also have waterparks and camel safaris plus zoos. Three of the main zoos are Palmitos Park, Reptilandia Park and Parque De Crocodilos.
First of all there is no time difference. You need no jabs.
The buses are very cheap and come regularly. Car hire is available and petrol is 31p per litre.
Tempratures on average are between 65-75F. The coolest months are from December to April, but even then the lowest it gets is 70F. Summer tempratures are from 75-80F. This...

Gran Canaria. Really GRAND holiday!
Advantages: It has the wow-factor!

Gran Canaria for those with Gran Hunger
Advantages: Year-round sun not too far from home
Disadvantages: Having to come back home again!
...If you want to eat well in the Puerto Rico area, here is some help.
The Islands
=
The Canary Islands as a group, lie just off the African coast although very Spanish in every way.
Having been to Gran Canaria several times, it is where we will focus in this review.
Gran Canaria
Flying into Las Palmas airport is usually a brilliant experience itself.
A few clouds will probably be sitting on the top peaks of this volcanic island - but the rest will be crystal clear - just like the sea around it.
The tourists who simply lie on the beach for the rest of their stay, are to be pitied, if undestood. Understood, because the weather is superb most of the year, the water very warm and the rest probably well-earned. But pitied because they do not know what they are missing.
Travel the island and you have...

PUERTO RICO - Gran Canaria
Advantages: great weather, excellent beach, lively resort
Disadvantages: very hilly resort, may be a bit tourist-orientated for some
...As it's that time of year when everyone starts flicking through the brochures to find their summer holiday destination, so I thought I'd review Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria which was our destination last September.
Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands (after Tenerife and Fuerteventura), and although owned by Spain, is just over 200km from the north coast of Africa, which explains its climate. The north and south of the island do experience differences however, with the north more cloudy and cooler than the hot south.
We picked Puerto Rico, a resort on the southern coast. The flight from Cardiff took approximately 3 1/2 hours.
Driving into Puerto Rico, the first thing that becomes apparent is that the resort is built into a huge valley in the mountains. Hotels have been built all the way up to the top...

Hotel Armadams, Palma de Mallorca
Advantages: Well presented, friendly, welcoming, modern
Disadvantages: On a back street
...We visted the Hotel Armadams for our honeymoon back in October 2006 for a short break to take in the sights and sounds of Palma.
It is situated one "block" away from the main promenade in Palma, a road lined on one side with bars, hotels, shops and the marina and harbour area on the other.
I am not a great Spanish speaker, infact I know only the most basic of phrases to muddle through, but the staff were very understanding and very helpful, even though we weren't checking in until really late following a delayed flight.
The room was exceptional. Clean crisp tiled floors beautufully airy which really made a good first impression.
We had a view looking out at the flats opposite, but a sneaky view between the buildings to the goregous marina opposite.
Features of the room were also impressive, with a mini bar, television...

Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria
Advantages: cheap, weather, clean
Disadvantages: none
...After having booked months in advance with the great Going Places me a two friends on a dusk September evening were heading off to Gran Canaria. The flight was great - very comfortable, even if a little long (appox 4 hours). We had the usual: food, film etc and a very friendly service from Airtours.
After arriving at Las Palmas airport we were efficiently taken to our resort of Puerto Rico. The transfer was quite long as Puerto Rico is one of the most southern resorts on the island, although it was interesting seeing other resorts as we travelled down.
The appartments were lovely: clean, fresh and close to well...everything: shops, bars, beach. Our view was also to die for. We stayed at the Tamanaco appartment complex.
Puerto Rico had everything: gorgeous beaches, cleanliness and so many shops and restaurants. Anything to buy...

Gran Canaria, NEVER go to Vennesol Bungalows
Advantages: gorgeous weather, plenty of things to do and see
Disadvantages: Place I stayed was full of cockroaches, beaches are too full & not that nice, people trying to force you into their restaurant.
...I went on holiday for 2 weeks in july 2004,self catering, in Gran Canaria with my Fiancee. We stayed at Vennesol bungalows in Maspalomas which was absolutely terrible.
VENNESOL BUNGALOWS:
We arrived ealy in the morning and were told to go to a bungalow which was right by a main road, we just went in and thought we would make the best of it, until...........
THE 1ST ROOM:
I was about to shut the curtains and a huge cockroach came running down towards me, it was really horrible! I screamed as I had never seen 1 of these things b4 in real life! Anyway we thought that would b the only 1 and went to bed, turned the lights out and we could her them behind the bed, I was so scared of them we had to get up and we found them all over the place.
THE 2ND ROOM:
We complained and were then moved to a new room which was also full...

Puerto Rico - South Coast of Gran Canaria
Advantages: Predictable Weather, only 4 hours away
Disadvantages: Peak season is unbearable
...I have been to Gran Canaria several times but have only ever stayed in two resorts.MasPalomas ans Puerto Rico
Lets deal with Ma Palomas quickly, everytime I go there whether for a day trip of a 2 week stay the weather was always a bit iffy, not cold but sort of grey and a bit windy. This resort is famous for it sand dunes blown in on the winds from the nearby Sahara desert, thats great until the wind gets up and you get shot blasted and end up looking like a heavily sugared doughnut.
The resort of Mas palomas is well spread out and a car would be useful if not you will have very limited entertainment.
Well thats enough of Mas Palomas {I thimk it in now very popular with gay couples}
Puerto Rico on the other hand is totally different,its about as far south as you can go on the island {30-60 minutes from airport}
and nestles in...
