A Reliable Printer, Copier and Scanner

...quibble about the scanner is that if you've been printing it can take a few attempts to persuade the scanner to scan, it keeps telling you that the scanner is busy. You can't scan, copy or print at the same time. The Printer gives a good quality laser print. Print speed is probably between 6 and 10 pages a minute, depending what I'm printing out. The manual says 12. Its'fast enough for me When I was looking for a copier/printer one of the things' I didn't think about and, with hindsight should have thought about was running costs. That is the number of copies per toner cartridge and also per drum (as that needs to be replaced periodically. Toner cartridges are quite expensive, around £80 per cartridge with replacement drums around £100, although it does help to shop around. It's a multifunctional printer but I think the design makes it look quite sleek and small. When I compare it to my Epson CX6400 (also a multifunctional printer), I can only think of how bulky my Epson looks in comparison. I think this printer/scanner has an impressive array of features. It even has a colour screen to view pictures. There's a built-in card reader and USB port! The card reader is great for those who don't already have a card reader. It reads SD, MMC, CF, XD, Memory Stick, and Smart Media cards. You can print pictures straight off your memory cards. Advantages: Excellent value for money
Disadvantages: Flimsy , need to handle with care

...headings make finding the relevent pages quick and the straight foreward language and diagrams make these guides simple to use , even for a novice like me!! I feel however that there are a few disadvantages to this machine. The first is that the machine has rather a flimsy feel especially the lift up top for the photocopier and scanner which isn't particularly robust. The second problem is the ink cartridges, these are all individual ie. a seperate cartridge for black, cyan, magenta and yellow. The cost for ink therefore can be expensive. Brother ink cartridges are not also as easy to purchase on the high street as some other makes although they can be purchased on the internet and i did notice yesterday that tesco has just started to sell the black cartridge for this machine. The main printer in use was the HP LaserJet 2420N but this was discontinued and superseded by the HP LaserJet P3005 printers so I decided on this one. The P3005 printers come in several flavours. There?s the P3005 (no network), P3005N (with network) and P3005DN (duplex, with parallel connection and network). All of them have a USB connection. It superseded the LaserJet 1010, 1012, 1018 model s but as it has been out for quite a while, has itself been superseded by the LaserJet 1022 and maybe the LaserJet P1006 models, although mine is still going strong. The printer chassis has two shades of light greys and the body is quite curvy. It is small enough to fit in a book shelf, which is where I have mine. The trays stick out when extended but I fold up the paper feed tray when not in use. It only measures 370 x 242 x 209 mm so is probably one of the most compact laser printers you can get. I originally bought mine from Amazon for £45, which was an excellent deal but this printer usually sells for £60 - £100. INSTALLATION The printer came with a CD containing the driver. If you did then you probably deserve a medal, but then so would 'Brother' for managing to cram so many features and uses into one device. That is a challenge in itself, and I'd imagine it was far from easy to accomplish and keep the design as attractive as it is. I know what you're thinking though. You've seen plenty of other printers out there that also do copying, scanning and faxing. They may even have been a fair bit cheaper.
