...Le Samourai There is a small bird in a cage in a dull looking apartment room, a man wearing a trench coat and a felt hat, and he goes out of the room and adjusts his hat. Jeff Costello (Alain Delone) then jumps into a car, with a set of master keys. He starts the car, and smokes a cigarette. Eventually he finds the right key by good luck and drives off. He then meets a criminal mechanic. The mechanic gives Jeff some cash, later goes to his pocket and gives him a gun. Here during this scene not a word is spoken. This film is low on dialogue though maintains a great sense of direction, pace and focus throughout. The suspense of each scene and the plot is amazing to watch. ...le cercle rouge Directed by Jean-Pierre Melville, this film is similar to his previous film Le Samourai, in that there are good guys and bad, and there are the cops and robbers. The translation of the title meaning the Red Circle was based upon a Buddhist motto about those people who are destined to meet, eventually will. In this film the types of scenes included are an escaping prisoner, murder scene, police man-hunt, mob battles and an armed robbery to steal diamonds. The film starts off showing a German named train running through I would guess Paris. Though scene by scene the actors performances and directions really smartly executed and cool to watch. ...I love chocolate but I don't love the calories that I consume every single time I take a bite. ...The Pixies... a great band for every generation. Trompe le Monde... the album that ended that generation. In fact, Trompe le Monde is credited with being one of the greatest Pixies albums and appears in many top 100 albums of the 1990's. The album itself was released in 1991 and includes a wide variety of music, and can be described as highly eclectic, no matter how cliched the term has become. It is definitely one of Black Francis's finer musical moments. It contains 'U-Mass' and 'Planet of Sound', two songs which both appear on the Pixies best of album, Death to the Pixies, as well as 'Head On', which is a Jesus and the Mary Chain cover. ...a really spectacular drive. There are so many activities at Le Domaines Les Pailles that we barely knew where to start! There is a large, luxurious casino, complete with parking lot and gazebo. Everything about that casino invites you in (so be careful with your budget!). It really has a warm and welcoming décor and what I particularly liked was the fact that it was not just another vulgar club full of perverts or hardcore gamblers and perverts- this casino was one posh place! I liked the contrast inside: While the décor is done in classic and rich colors of gold and green, the music is quite contemporary. In fact, when I first stepped in, I was expecting a more antique, classic environment. Like all other Casinos, it has the usual fruit machines and poker tables, among the other games. ...annoying practically everybody right into the small hours. I digress, the purpose of this review is to warn of the hotel and not the place itself! Parking The Hotel Le Donjon Les Ramparts is situated within the city walls, so we made sure we checked on parking facilities for which we were quoted 10 Euros per night. It wasn?t until we arrived that we were informed that we could only take our cars in after 10.30pm at night and had to remove them before eight in the morning. We left ours outside the walls of the city! Check In On arrival we followed directions to the hotel only to find that it was split into three parts and reception was in another building a five/ten minute walk away (not good, it was 90 degrees and the city was heaving with people).
