It felt more like an eau de toilette than a perfume. It smelled nice but lacked that 'edge' or 'depth' an eau de parfum can give you, a real woody oriental that makes a statement of the wearer, a fragrance with lasting individuality. So what I wanted was an oriental with a difference. Knowing that in the past two years the fragrance shelves have been covered with synthetic patchouli smelling oriental clones, I thought this would probably mean that in order to find something that will be quite like Infusion d'Iris, it would probably be a fragrance marketed at some point in the 1990s...

Le Grand Parc, Tigers and Gladiators in France?!

Advantages: Unusual and brilliant spectacle
Disadvantages: Its all in French!

...We have travelled to the Vendee region of France several times and we had heard about The Grand Parc at Puy du Fou but it is billed as a Medieval Theme Park and it really didn't appeal to me! However having "done" many of the attractions in the area and faced with another day of dodgy weather (we were very unlucky in 2008) we decided to give it a go. The tickets were about 25 euroes for adults and 15 for children. However when I enquired about directions at our campsite office they told me that we could buy tickets from them with a 5 euro discount each. This seems to be common practice in the area so either book online or through your accomodation if possible to bag a bargain! They also informed me that it was a simple journey and would be well signposted off the A87. They mentioned that the road to The Grand Parc gets busy...

Magical Dragons!

Advantages: fun story

...Dragon Magic is a cute tale that transports children to a magical world of castles and dragons. It tells the story of a small girl called Jess and her blacksmith father, Big John, who rely on their dragon's breath to soften the iron that they use to make things. Problems start when Big John is making a new gate for the king but Huff, their dragon, has run out of puff. Soon some dragon eggs are found and before long a new baby called Puff hatches. She soon becomes part of the family and sets to work helping to make the gate. However, the king is worried that the gate won't be finished and he has spied strangers heading towards the city. It is a race against time especially when Puff shows signs of becoming ill. What else could possibly go wrong? My daughter really enjoyed this story and kept getting excited about what would happen next...

...Dragon Fruit When I was shopping in Tesco's on Thursday I spotted a rather unusual looking fruit which immediately caught my eye; The Dragon Fruit. I had never seen a Dragon Fruit in Tesco's before and being rather curious I decided to purchase one just to see what it tasted like. Now the Dragon Fruit isn't exactly a cheap fruit to buy, one Dragon Fruit will cost you £1.99 from Tescos although the price may be slightly cheaper or more expensive if you purchase it elsewhere. As you can see from the picture at the top of this review the skin on the dragon fruit is quite scaly in apperance and is mostly pink in colour apart from the tips of the scales which are light green. ...My mum bought this item home from Tesco today. She was attracted by the beautiful appearance of the fruit. *~*~*The Fruit*~*~* The fruit itself is a bright pink colour with green scales. It definitely stands out from the other edibles on the shelf. It is an oval sort of shape and about 4/5 inches tall. There are 3 types of Dragon Fruit and they all have very technical names. The Hylocereus undatus, which is what my mum bought, has pink skin and white flesh, the Hylocereus polyrhizus, which has pink skin and red flesh and the Selenicereus megalanthus, which has yellow skin and white flesh. I must stress that I haven't sampled the latter two varieties and therefore this review is solely on the Hylocereus undatus. The inside of the fruit has white flesh as stated above, this flesh is very soft (a bit like a kiwi fruit in appearance...

Hotel du Nord

Advantages: Beautifully filmed, poetic, magnificently acted masterpiece of cinema rarely matched today
Disadvantages: Nothing... genuinely nothing

...I first saw Hotel du Nord as part of a double bill with a film by Jean Renoir (I forget which - though I think the brilliant Le Crime De Monsieur Lange) and I was frankly going to see the Renoir film and thought, hmmm, I'll just have to sit through Hotel du Nord and grin and bear it. Something about the film just really didn't appeal. Then right from the opening shot that tracks down from the bridge over the canal Saint Martin and along the side of the canal to where the two lovers, played by Annabella and Jean-Pierre Aumont, settle against one another on a bench, despairing and apparently doomed I simply didn't look back. I couldn't. Since that Sunday afternoon I have always had something of a soft spot for Hotel du Nord. It is firmly placed in the traditional of French cinema of the thirties. Keeping the Bearded Dragon...

Advantages: Lovely sociable reptiles, can be handled, interact well with humans
Disadvantages: Vitamin supplements can be tricky to get used to

...Bearded Dragons (often affectionately called Beardies) are often referred to as being easy to keep. This is true to a certain extent as they do not need such specialist care as some of the other reptiles (such a Chameleons) but you still need to do plenty of research, especially about their diet and vitamin supplements. Price I paid £60 for my Bearded Dragon when he was about 2 months old. I find that locally adult Bearded Dragons are more expensive and can cost up to £120. I always like to get my animals from young and watch them grow into adults. Housing Bearded Dragons are kept in vivariums. My Bearded Dragon is kept in a vivarium made totally of wood, which has glass sliding doors at the front. If you buy a Beardy from a young age then it can be better to keep them in a smaller viv as they will look lost in a larger viv...

So I have reworked the original story and present part one to you today. Enjoy Finding Jake Pound was nine. To say that he was inquisitive would be an understatement. Downright nosy would be much closer to the truth. Perhaps that was the reason that he found it, perhaps that was the reason he kept it, who knows.
