Le Grand Parc, Tigers and Gladiators in France?!

Advantages: Unusual and brilliant spectacle
Disadvantages: Its all in French!

...We have travelled to the Vendee region of France several times and we had heard about The Grand Parc at Puy du Fou but it is billed as a Medieval Theme Park and it really didn't appeal to me! However having "done" many of the attractions in the area and faced with another day of dodgy weather (we were very unlucky in 2008) we decided to give it a go. The tickets were about 25 euroes for adults and 15 for children. However when I enquired about directions at our campsite office they told me that we could buy tickets from them with a 5 euro discount each. This seems to be common practice in the area so either book online or through your accomodation if possible to bag a bargain! They also informed me that it was a simple journey and would be well signposted off the A87. They mentioned that the road to The Grand Parc gets busy...

Le Cervin Plange Soleil France Odlays Residence

Advantages: Ski to/from door, close to centre, smal village quiet, parking
Disadvantages: Tatty, tired, basic no frills.

...This review is on Le Cervin Apartments in Plagne Soleil at 2050M in the resort of La Plagne French Alpes. I am also going to review the whole area of La Plagne in a different review as I think it will be to long to put both together. In the other review I will price items and talk about areas other than Plagne Soleil. Well where to start, oh yes. I must say it was not our accommodation of choice so forgive me for the negatives but we were supposed to have a fully catered for chalet in Plagne Centre. ...Le Samourai There is a small bird in a cage in a dull looking apartment room, a man wearing a trench coat and a felt hat, and he goes out of the room and adjusts his hat. Jeff Costello (Alain Delone) then jumps into a car, with a set of master keys. He starts the car, and smokes a cigarette. Eventually he finds the right key by good luck and drives off. He then meets a criminal mechanic. The mechanic gives Jeff some cash, later goes to his pocket and gives him a gun. Here during this scene not a word is spoken. This film is low on dialogue though maintains a great sense of direction, pace and focus throughout. The suspense of each scene and the plot is amazing to watch. Review of Le Samourai DVD

le tour de force

Advantages: excitement
Disadvantages: drugs

...This years tour was once again dominated by lance Armstrong and the drugs issue bubbled under the surface. Pantani once again started to regain the form in the mountains that made him champion 3 years ago and next year he will once again be a serious contender for the yellow jersey. Once again the green jesey was won by the same rider but I feel next year will be someone elses year. Lance Armstrong however took total control after the first week and proved himself to be the ultimate athlete that he is. I think he is going to be another Imdurain in the making not bad for a man with cancer. The race once again showed France off in its own glory. The race did have some undertones of the drugs issue but these kept out of the main headlines and the tour finished again in a blaze of glory....

  "Lille De France" - Geddit?

Advantages: Near London by train, cosmopolitan feel, excellent transport connections, eating out, plenty to see

...I?ve now been to Lille three times in the past year or so, each previous time, merely for the day. Only over the last weekend did we stay overnight. Why Lille? Well, rather like the reason dogs lick their naughty bits, it?s because we can. Lille is the first main stop in France on the Eurostar/TGV route from the Channel Tunnel ? yes, I know you could get a train that stops at Calais (Fréthun), but that?s like getting out at Bristol Parkway and expecting to be in Bristol! Gare Lille-Europe arrives outside your train window 1 hour and 40 minutes after London Waterloo International disappears. Stage 1 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL), means that we now get to hurtle through Kent at 186 M.P.H. before slowing to a mere 100 M.P.H. to shrug off the 32 miles of tunnel in a mere 20 minutes. The translation of the title meaning the Red Circle was based upon a Buddhist motto about those people who are destined to meet, eventually will. In this film the types of scenes included are an escaping prisoner, murder scene, police man-hunt, mob battles and an armed robbery to steal diamonds. ...My family and I started going to Hossegor, (which is situated in the Bay Of Biscay, SW France), when I was about 5, way back in the mid 80's. Well, up he coast a tiny bit from there actually). We always stay at the same place when we're there. Its a 4star campsite called Le Vieux Port. The campsite has everything that you'd need. Even as young children we always had something to do. The entance consists of a long kind of driveway, along which runs a football pitch, crazy golf and a mini go-kart thing for the kiddies. It all looks very classy, with flags from different countries running down both sides. Then you approach the reception and main bar areas of the site. Histoire Le Grand Rex was opened in 1932 and is the oldest cinema in Paris. It is an indisputable fact that they produce the best football managers at club level, our Lord Arsene Wenger is living proof of that and they also produce family days out where the quality of the catering puts our own firmly in the shade.
