...The Pixies... a great band for every generation. Trompe le Monde... the album that ended that generation. In fact, Trompe le Monde is credited with being one of the greatest Pixies albums and appears in many top 100 albums of the 1990's. The album itself was released in 1991 and includes a wide variety of music, and can be described as highly eclectic, no matter how cliched the term has become. It is definitely one of Black Francis's finer musical moments. It contains 'U-Mass' and 'Planet of Sound', two songs which both appear on the Pixies best of album, Death to the Pixies, as well as 'Head On', which is a Jesus and the Mary Chain cover. Le Monde

Advantages: Quality, selection of food and drinks.
Disadvantages: Perhaps the stairs.

...Le Monde is situated in the heart of Cardiff City Centre close to the Central Station on St. Mary Street. A long flight of stairs takes you to the first floor where you will find this dimly lit restaurant called Le Monde. Owned by Martin Martinez who is Spanish, this restaurant has a definate Spanish theme with it's romantic soft background music. The floors are wooden and are covered in sawdust. The tables are mainly for four covers, but some are large enough to seat parties of more than ten. There are no frills here, just bare wooden tables. Le Monde is the best known fish restaurant in Cardiff although they do serve alternatives to fish. No need to book here. You choose a table and when you are ready to order you take a trip to the refrigerated displays where there is a huge selection of fresh fish and meat...

Le Monde- Cardiff's finest.

Advantages: absolutely delicious food, wonderful atmosphere
Disadvantages: walking down the stairs after a few glasses!

...behind an unsuspecting thick glass door at the top of St Mary's Street, Cardiff, lies an absolute gem of a restaurant. Le Monde has an absolutely unique atmosphere of elegance, good food and vivality to it. It actually has a rather unique way of doing things. There are no menus, what you see is actually what you get. Behind a wonderful glass counter there is a display, often stacked high with 30 types of fish. I can recommend the dover sole which they will filet for you at the table in an impressive display of skill. Never fear meat lovers! There is now a great "alternative" display for meat. They offer juicy sirloin and filet steaks (recommended by me!), duck, rack of lamb, chicken "le Monde" which is chicken wrapped in bacon with a game pate inside, mmm! Lots more is on offer. Tout Le Monde

Advantages: Wonderfuly expressive, offbeat, unique, exciting and enjoyable
Disadvantages: The more conventional songs don't hold up as well as the others

From quoting The Beatles' song "Doctor Robert" to Guns N Roses by way of Louis XV (après moi le deluge - meaning after me, the flood) and, I may be wrong here, but 'Only Fools and Horses', Regina carries all before her in a wave of anti-folk, Russian kookiness. Her voice moves from all ranges, and she manages to yelp and squeal and scream and sound fragile and innocent and sound world-weary at will. If she wants to she will make your hair stand on end, but mostly she's happy to pick you up and move you to her own little offbeat, magical world. Begin To Hope is a superb record, crammed with charm and bursting with moments of sheer joy, while mixing in a few heart-breaking songs like "Better" and odd pop confectionary like "Hotel Song". "I picked me up a transmission....."

Advantages: An almost indecent amount of variety on display
Disadvantages: Not so much a "band" record

Yves Rocher Jardins Du Monde Shower Gel

...I recently bought some 'Jardins du Monde' shower gel from the Yves Rocher website. I have never tried the product before but they had a 2-for-1 offer so I couldn't refuse! There are quite a few different shower gels in the 'Jardins du Monde' range. ...Le Samourai There is a small bird in a cage in a dull looking apartment room, a man wearing a trench coat and a felt hat, and he goes out of the room and adjusts his hat. Jeff Costello (Alain Delone) then jumps into a car, with a set of master keys. He starts the car, and smokes a cigarette. Eventually he finds the right key by good luck and drives off. He then meets a criminal mechanic. The mechanic gives Jeff some cash, later goes to his pocket and gives him a gun. Here during this scene not a word is spoken. This film is low on dialogue though maintains a great sense of direction, pace and focus throughout. The suspense of each scene and the plot is amazing to watch. He then goes to a flat and meets a young woman who is named Jane (Anthoine Delone). She is a woman who is there to provide an alibi for Jeff. It does not...

...Trompe le Monde opens with the record?s title track, a short song which demonstrates some of Joey Santiago?s most impressive guitar tricks. The Pixies once said that this album, which was to be their last studio album, was going to be, ?a full-on rock record?. The opener sets the vibe for the rest of the album, with the band?s punkish, at times tragic, and less frequently tuneful songs, only three of which last for more than three minutes. Look out for ?Motorway to Roswell?, ?Subbacultcha?, ?Letter to Memphis? ? possibly one of the greatest songs of all time ? and ?U-Mass?, which is supposedly the ?inspiration? for Nirvana?s ?Smells Like Teen Sprirt? ? make your own mind up. This album could easily be widely accepted as a classic if it were given more exposure, as with the rest of their material....

...le cercle rouge Directed by Jean-Pierre Melville, this film is similar to his previous film Le Samourai, in that there are good guys and bad, and there are the cops and robbers. The translation of the title meaning the Red Circle was based upon a Buddhist motto about those people who are destined to meet, eventually will. In this film the types of scenes included are an escaping prisoner, murder scene, police man-hunt, mob battles and an armed robbery to steal diamonds. The film starts off showing a German named train running through I would guess Paris. Though scene by scene the actors performances and directions really smartly executed and cool to watch. Corey, who has just been released from prison on good behaviour notice from the police, is given a job to do by a Prison Guard. Inspector Bourvil is escorting...
