Disadvantages: shoddily scripted, badly plotted, some terrible acting

...Call it arrogance. Call it stupidity. Or perhaps attribute it to the death of the wonderful Alexander Walker, without whose expert guidance I am left floundering on a sea of cinematic confusion. Whatever it is, it amounts to me being convinced that it's worth seeing a film that has been universally panned since I might like it after all... or maybe not. Actually, let's be fair. The League of Gentlemen - Weird and wonderful comedy

Advantages: Very funny, witty and clever. Superb characters well acted

I have focused on the programme itself rather than the DVD as a whole. Each series contains 6 30 minute episodes and there are also Christmas specials and a live show available on DVD. All of the main characters are played by Shearsmith, Pemberton and Gatiss. WHAT IS IT: The League of Gentlemen is a British comedy series originally transmitted in 1999. LEAGUE OF TWADDLE

Advantages: None.
Disadvantages: Disappointment all round.

...disappointment. Okay I did not expect it to be completely believeable, but with the special effects and technological capabilities of film makers, I expected more than I got, which was a poor story line. You are lead to believe that this league of gentlemen specially chosen for a mission of this magnitude (i.e. to save the world from the baddies who were intent to sabotage a meeting of great leaders in Venice. Then, to add to the story because I believe they ran out of ideas, the league of extraordinary gentlemen hook up with an American Secret service agent (played by Shane West), and I found myself thinking of the irony of going to all the trouble to get these amazing (tongue in cheek) people together to save the world, and then letting an American of little significance join the gang at the drop of a hat. Are we supposed to believe this rubbish...

Fantasy Leagues

Advantages: Added Spice to the Premiership Season

...For the last three or four years I have been doing a fantasy football team for the premiership season. Originally I started doing it in the newspaper, but now I use the internetbased site www.fantasyleague.com. I have tried other online leagues which are less expensive or free, but I still think this is the best value for money. Fantasy League used to do (may even still do) the fantasy football section in the Times and/or the Telegraph and now have a whole suite of fantasy games online. The basic fantasy football game is the "Classic" game on the site. There is also "Pro" and "Champions League" versions, but I will come back to that later. At this point I would also like to say that there are also some non-football games available including Formula 1 and Golf. During Euro 2004 and Wimbledon they did special games too. Anyway...

Very best of Human League? Bah Humbug.

...The Very Best of the Human League. This compilation of HL tunes was released in 2003 and if you do want to buy it after this review, my advice is iTunes, all 28 songs for £7.99. To buy in most shops as a double CD is still more than £10, and the price (and availability) varies greatly online. To be honest, when I was compiling an 80's playlist for my iPod I needed about 6 songs from HL but could not resist downloading the lot for the price. Did I regret it? would I have been better off getting just a few tracks? well........ 1.Don't You Want Me Absolute classic, who can forget the video.
