...Nothing comes between love like a little competition. Leatherheads is a 2008 movie staring George Clooney - enough said!! Well, I should probably say a bit more about the film apart from George Clooney who as well as staring in the film directed it as well! The film is a romantic comedy set in the 1920's but I would say is not your typical Rom Com. George plays Dodge Connolly, an aging football player (American football) who signs up a new rising star to his team to try and revive the fortunes of the team. The new star is called Carter "The Bullet" Rutherford who is played by John Krasinski (he is in the American version of the office). The Bullet is a war hero but not all is as it seems apparently. Renee Zellweger plays Lexi Littleton a feisty journalist who has been tasked to write an article about the Bullet and dig up any dirt...

Travelodge Leatherhead

Advantages: Quiet
Disadvantages: Hard to find, no parking, items missing from rooms

...Our night in the Travelodge in Leatherhead turned out to be quite a stressful occasion. Finding the Hotel This is where the stress began, according to the invoice printed off from Travelodge, simply typing the postcode into a satnav, or onto an online route planner will be sufficient. Unfortunately this directs you to a shopping centre car park. As we arrived approximately 11pm on a Saturday, this car park was obviously empty, and there was no one around to ask directions. So we drove a little further on and spotted a Dominoes Pizza takeaway that was still open. They allowed me to look at the map and pointed out the way around the town?s one way system. So off we went again, we followed the directions and ended up on a pedestrianised way, but there were other vehicles using it, and seemingly after certain times the pedestrian...

Downright Dull

Advantages: Great characters and acting.

Screwball Scramble

Advantages: A strong directorial vision, lots of snappy banter and plenty of laughs.
Disadvantages: Zellweger's performance is superficial.

...are lots of playful motifs that reference the period setting with hi-hat, twanging strings and jazzy woodwinds. There are also chipper piano passages that underline the comic aspects of the story. Certain characters have specific themes, such as the banjo and detuned piano that accompany the appearance of the enormous Gus. The romance is underlined by twinkly piano melodies when Dodge sees Lexie for the first time. Meanwhile the games are accompanied by sweeping strings and bright flutes and brass when things are going well and blowsy brass when it's all about the laughs. The film is designated a caper by the jangling piano and jazzy brass that sits alongside the montages. So it's the ideal accompaniment to the movie. Open All Hours

Advantages: Open 24 Hours, sells LPG and AutoGas. Cash machine on site.
Disadvantages: Petrol Station prices. Junk food only.

If you are a normal customer and actually going there for petrol, then being in Britain, petrol is stupidly overpriced but you?ll know that already and it?s not Texaco?s fault. There is a car-wash, vacuum, water, air and toilets ? standard petrol station stuff. The place sells your normal fuels but also LPG and AutoGas. Apart from snacks there are magazines, maps and ice creams. There is also an ATM there if you?re short on cash. Looking on the internet, I found that this Texaco in Givons Grove, Leatherhead has a hotspot for wi-fi users. Don?t know any details, but if you?ve got your laptop give it a try, might need to pay for it though. I think that?s about all there is to mention. Box Hill is a nice spot just down the road if you need a break on your long journey...

Phenomenal collection by The Head

Advantages: A collectors item - only 1000 pressed
Disadvantages: None

...This is a phenomenal collection of THE HEAD's recordings from 1979 - 1981 including their legendary (and much sought-after) Nothing To Do In a Town Like Leatherhead / University '79 single from 1979 as well as the withdrawn Middle Class Revolution / No Girls For Billy and a whole bunch of lost recordings that have all been digitally remastered and sound fantastic as well as a photo slide show (on the CD version only of course!) that an be viewed on your computer. This is a fantastic package and what an important one too THE HEAD's approach was so interesting because they blended the simplicity, attitude and attack of punk rock with intoxicating MOD melody and power pop catchiness with heavy organ presence and their songs are so addictive it's wild. This is such an important sound and so necessary right now with contemporary bands...
