Oh dear....more destruction than construction - a lego "miss"...

...This is a new release from Lego in the City range, and is priced at about the £20 mark, though I was able to buy it for £14.99 from Tesco Homeplus, which seemed like a good price for a set with 352 pieces and 100 stage construction. I have to say straight away that having made and played with this set, our family verdict on this bulldozer is "disappointing". We really wanted to like this bulldozer but it had a number of problems. What's good? To start with the positive, in the box you get a good range of pieces, including a mini-figure and also some technics pieces to make the tread for the tyres. The instruction book is quite daunting at first, but they have broken it down into 3 stages of construction and all the pieces are in three bags, which is a good idea as you don't have to sort through lots of little bits...

...I would just like to write a review on the benefits and/ or the downfalls of Lego, something that even at the age of 26 I do still enjoy playing with with my brother's four children - any comments, you will get a slap! Lego are those small little bricks that no doubt will have played a part in the life of any child, at some point during their early lives. It is something that has been around for many years, as my two older brothers (being 36 and 38) both also used to play with it themselves along with their own friends - in fact, most of mine was hand downs from them! There are many different bricks used in Lego, from rectangular bricks through to doors; windows; wheels, and even the bases on which to build your masterpieces on too have shown at the Tate Modern! In my opinion, Lego is an excellent way of encouraging a child...

...bricks suitable for a 5 year old to construct many a building and lose themselves in imagination. A child needs a fair amount of dexterity to put these together and some skill in linking them together to build objects, but that comes with practice and imagination. Many a child has spent a day engrossed in Lego building castles, forts and houses encaptured in their world of construction and make believe. I shall certainly be buying some for Baby Adrian (my new grand child) at some point. Lego bricks come in red, green, blue, grey, white bright attractive colours they cost from about £5 for a tiny set upwards. They seem to last forever well for ages anyway. They are made of a strong plastic. Will survive several children playing with them and passing them on to others when they are grown out of them. The official Webb site...

I owned a big box of it and I would dissaper into my bedroom for hours making houses to play pretend, I would see how high I could build a tower up the wall, make cars and casltes. This never failed to amuse me. my son has never been the building type so I never bought him any he would much prefer to be destructive. So when I met my current partner it was great his son loved lego it made it so much easier for me and him to relate to each other too we would spend hours building things and using our imagination. Lego has come along since I was a little girl they now make real looking cars, star wars figures, Indian Jones and much more. This is one of the main presants that my step son has every year due to each year they bring out another...

At first I was a little dubious, the age on the pack is 6-12, my son is only four and the pieces are much smaller than the duplo lego he is used to. However, he is digger mad so we decided to build it and see how difficult it is. The grey box is sturdy plastic, covered in a green sticker with a clear picture of the digger on the front. The back has smaller pictures of the other two vehicles which can be constructed. The lid is green plastic and not very easy for kids to open, but nice and secure so your child can take it out with them. The age is clearly noted on the front and there is a warning on the back that it is not intended for under 3's, due to the small parts. I suspect in the Amazon add they have got the wrong picture and number of the box with the price 19.99 the bigger box number 6166 costs 19.99p, The Lego comes in a sturdy deep rectangular blue box with a lid. I know from experience what an advantage it is to have a good sturdy box to keep Lego in. It keeps all the Lego together in one place. Keeps Lego away tidily. The card boxes break fairly easily. Much easier to have a big tub for your child to put all the Lego pieces in. Remember do encorage your child to pick them all up they are painful to stand on with bare feet. ...This Lego digger is really fantastic. It takes a while to build, which adds to the anticipation. It is perfect for boys that are interested in diggers. Most toy diggers have wheels, but this one has excavator tracks that go round, making it really special. The digger arm moves into lots of different positions, creating many opportunities for different play ideas. It comes with sticks to put on the sides- this makes it look even more realistic. The sign adds to the role play possibilities. My son used it to play demolishing houses- he build some Lego houses and then brought the digger along to knock them down! You can also break it up and make different diggers with it afterwards....
