University of Leicester 2007
Advantages: Friendly people, laid back attitude, academic, social scene
Disadvantages: distance of university to halls, the locals
...I have just finished my 'freshers' year at the university of Leicester; and i have to say it has been the best year of my life.
The university campus is set about a mile or so out of town, next to Victoria Park and the nearby shopping area of Queen Road. I would say it is a medium sized campus which makes it extremely easy to find your place and feel comfortable when you first start. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from one side of the campus to the other. Another plus to the size is that you always see familiar faces. The student population is varied, with quite a lot of international students either here full time or on an erasmus scheme.
To the left of the campus is the more picturesque, with attractive older buildings and plenty of greenery. The other side is less pretty and is mainly comprised with 50's style blocks...

Leicester Hilton-a grand place to say
Advantages: nice modern hotel, not far from Leicester
Disadvantages: not the cheepest hotel, rediculously priced interne access
...We stayed at the Hilton hotel in Leicester as we fancied a night away from home. There was no particular reason for choosing this particular hotel, we just thought why not. The hotel is located three miles from Leicester city centre. It is just off junction 21of the M1. It is 25 minutes from Nottingham East Midlands Airport. Check in is from 3pm and checkout is 12pm.
There is parking at the hotel, which costs £5 per night. In every room, there is internet access which costs £15 per night-way beyond expensive if you ask me!There is a business centre, with 10 meeting room, which can accomdate from 2 to 150 people. The hotel is 100% non smoking. There is on restaurat, one bar and a health club (its free to use for hotel guests) which also has a swimming pool.
A double room will set you back £129 per night, which doesnt include...

Leicester University The Place To Be
Advantages: Good nite life, good economics dept
Disadvantages: crap halls
...From an acedemic point of view I can only really comment on the Economic department as I am a second year studying Business Economics BA. The department is very good, nice buildings, good lectures and lecturers. We also were rated 24/24 for teaching in the economics department a few weeks ago putting us surprisingly equal with the likes of Warwick , Leeds and Cambridge.
Halls were disappointing in the first year, I lived in Villiers, an old 60's style building. However by the second year you should have your own place and then you can choose what you like for a far cheaper price.
The night life in Leicester is good, whatever you are into, drum n bass, garage, hard house, hip hop (Im stil recovering from Bubble love at the university!), its all there. What's more there are a large amount of pubs and bars in town which include some...

Leicester's Social Life
Advantages: Great atmos, reasonably priced accomodation
Disadvantages: Lack of decent nightclubs
...Three years at Leicester has flown by (mostly in a haze of beers!). I'm certainly going to miss the place when I enter the 'real world' this summer.
As a university town, Leicester is ideal. Large enough to offer lots to do, yet retaining a small-town atmosphere (You'll always bump into friends wherever you go). On the social front (and lets face it that's our main concern. Education? Nah!), Leicester will keep you occupied; from its array of new, snazzy bars, to a range of popular (and often v. cheesy) nights at the Union. Admittedly, the club scene is pretty low-key, but this is the only major downfall.
Leicester is also the only town in the country to possess 4 professional sports teams (football, rugby, cricket, basketball) and if that doesn't wet your appetite, you can join in yourself with one of the many university teams...

Do U need this Uni
Advantages: Central location and cheap cost of living
Disadvantages: Accommodation tight if not booked early
...INTRODUCTION
*************
This is an extensive opinion and I will dwell here sufficient to say the University is named after Simon DeMontfort, a rebellious Leicester Earl, switching from Leicester Polytechnic around 1990. As a polytechnic in the 1960-70`s smaller rock groups frequently played within the halls, but alas no more.
LOCATION
**********
Leicester, Bedford and Milton Keynes.
The principal college is Leicester, 100 miles north of London, (M1 Junction 21) Continue approx. 2 miles down Narborough Road, turning right towards the DeMontfort University (DMU) Gateway.
TYPE OF EDUCATION

The best university in the world
Advantages: none
Disadvantages: none
...I am currently in my finaly year at leicester to study a BA in archaeology, and i am having the time of my life. The university is placed next to Victoria park and it is away from the city centre, but only 10mins walking distance.
The Union is very good, these is always something happening. The staff are pretty helpful too. The accommodation is good, although I have personally only stayed in the self-catered accommodation.
The city since I arrived three years ago has changed, loads of cool cafe bars have opened up. The nightlife is pretty good at the uni and also in the city, you can usually have a top night for not too much money....

the best uni ive attended - lol
Advantages: Close to services / city centre
Disadvantages: My faculty sucks a bit
...De montfort university leicester - My first and only uni
After 2 full years at de montfort university leicester, i can say that i am satisfied that it was a good choice for me.
It may not be the best university on paper, or even physically, but i find it very good.
I am studying for a BSc Business Information Systems and am really enjoying the course. The IT department is very good, with access to PC and Unix labs very readily available. At times of need (coursework deadlines etc.) though the labs can become full quite quickly. This can cause problems occasionally but there are plenty of places to go.
The main problem with this (and a few other in Computer Science and Engineering faculty) course is the management. The faculty is quite poorly organised and coursework marking, results etc. take a long time coming through. Unlike...

Prosperous Leicester
Advantages: Well planned, Prosperous. Good sports facilities
Disadvantages: Air of complacency
....
The city is home to the well rated University of Leicester, where the National Space Centre is being built as a Millennium project, and to the de Montfort University.
The Midlands city is well endowed with good quality hotels,it receives a lot of business visitors, comfortable guest houses and homely bed and breakfast places. I taught for several years at an associate college of Leicester University and one of the great pleasures of my frequent trips to the city, was dining out.For a city of its size,Leicester has numerous good restaurants and,in particular, there are some marvellous Indian restaurants, whose sternest judges are the local Indians themselves.
There are discos and night clubs in town and a number of interesting, congenial, pubs to savour. Whilst Leicester would not rank as a must-see spot for leisure tourists,it is a pleasant...

Dire Mediocre University - DO NOT GO THERE
Advantages: wasting three years of your life
Disadvantages: The staff...
...I never thought that my time at University would make me depressed to the point of suicide....
Like another reviewer on this site I to would have to say that DMU Leicester has been the worst experience of my life and I do not say this lightly.
I undertook law through 2004-2007 and chose DMU as they (apparently) offered a wide variety of law classes options I obtained A,B,B for my A-Levels.
Like the other reviewer who experienced a bad time at DMU they are not alone in their belief that racist behaviour goes unchecked. I am white and have noticed that racism at DMU is full circle as I and friends have experienced racist taunts and innuendo from fellow students and the staff have ignored complaints as well as physical attacks on students.
The teaching ranges from ok to a total waste of time and money.
I concur with ?Rumble1...

Cheese is not the only good thing in Leicester!
Advantages: Quality through and through
Disadvantages: Leave your car at home!
...Being a bit of a king of univeristies having dropped out twice I finally settled on Leicester to study archaeology and was the best decsion I could have made.
The university is excellently postioned just outside of the city centre and is surrounded by the beautifully green Victoria Park, which was once the Racecourse many many years ago.
The campus is compact and has a friendly atmosphere, and has a variety of buildings, the architecturally acclaimed Engineering building, the old asylum now the univeristy offices, the 18 storey Attenborough Tower, with its fantastic paternoster and great views, and the downright ugly Charles Wilson (or the Chilly Willy ) building.
The student union has good bars, and a variety club nights, adequate shop and all the services you'd expect in a union building.
The library at Leicester is...
