Duinrell Amusement Park - A Great Easter Treat

Advantages: Great place for all the family
Disadvantages: Not for people with phobia of frogs!

...some of the faster ones have height restrictions for safety reasons. You may think 2 hours per day is not very much but you will find after that even the fittest person will find their muscles aching. Getting here is not too hard. You can either fly to Amsterdam or get a ferry from Hull to Rotterdam or Harwich to Hook of Holland. Then you can drive to the site or get a train either to Den Haag then to Leiden from Hook of Holland or Rotterdam then a taxi to site. Or from Amsterdam you just get a direct train to Leiden. All these trains run frequently everyday. There is a train station closer to the site called Voorschoten but that is quite small without a taxi rank. If you are driving you need to head in to Wassenaar but don't follow the signs for centre. Follow them to Wassenarseslag until signs for Duinrell appear, then follow...

Pass The Dutchie

Advantages: Watchable, entertaining and well-acted film
Disadvantages: None

...anyone expecting major battle scenes will be disappointed. It tells the story of a group of friends at the University of Leiden, one of the oldest and most prestigious in continental Europe, and how the war affects their lives. A photograph of the group is poignantly seen again towards the end of the film, many of those posing for it having lost their lives in the interim. The movie starts with a rather brutal initiation scene where a group of freshers is submitted to all manner of indignities by older students. Eventually Erik (Hauer) suffers a cracked skull at the hands of Guus (Jeroen Krabbe) but, oddly enough, they become good friends after this and even end up sharing the latter's plush apartment. ...cash machines. From Wasanaar it is possible to catch busses to various towns including Rotterdam and Leiden. Remember to buy tickets in advance from the Post Office (it saves money). Also remember to queue for a bus the Dutch way. It is not necessary to make a mental note of all the people who were at the bus stop before you, or who arrived after you. You do not have to stand in any particular order. It does not matter if the last person to arrive at the bus stop gets on the bus first. Overall I would recommend a week at Duinrell for any family with children in the 6-11 age range....

I was quite disappointed to find nothing on cast and crew although in the little leaflet provided there is info on director Paul Verhoeven who is a native of Amsterdam went to the university of Leiden where he earned a degree in maths and physics! (Just in case, you can?t read it for yourself!) he also directed Total Recall and Robocop. It also says a bit about the main characters Denise Richards, Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer. I liked the menu?s in the special features area as you had to move from planet to planet although I was slightly confused at forst. Overall a good fun bug kicking film. If you have a free 124 minutes then watch it if not then make 124 minutes available!...

Haarlem is near to Amsterdam but the pace of life is much more sedate. I love the different cities, and train travel between them is easy. Travelling by train is a much better experience than in England. Trains are reliable and generally comfortable, as long as you avoid the rush hour. There is a variety of discount schemes available - in the summer 2 people can travel on one ticket for 3 days within any 10 within the Netherlands. Ask for a Zomertoer ticket.
