Dover Leisure Centre
Advantages: You don't need to be a member to use the facilities
Disadvantages: Certain parts may be shut due to private events
...Living in Dover means that we don't have too many facilities. Dover Leisure Centre is about the only sporting facility in Dover other than the football and rugby pitches.
Location
Dover Leisure Centre is located on Townwall Street in Dover which is pretty much on the seafront and within walking distance to the Port of Dover. It is also within walking distance of Dover town, Dover Priory Station and Pencester bus station.
Facilities
There are two swimming pools at Dover Leisure Centre. There is a main swimming pool which is 25 metres and also a learner / childrens pool. In the main pool, there are two lanes of the swimming pool which are sectioned off to create one slow, and one fast swimming lane.
The rest of the pool is then literally just open water where people can swim at their own leisure.
The smaller pool is much...

The Heights Leisure Centre - Isle of WIght
Advantages: great
Disadvantages: none
...The Heights Leisure Centre, Sandown, Isle of Wight......
The Heights Leisure Centre is located on the main road leading into Sandown (The Broadway). It is a large building which was opened on the 25th March 1982. The leisure centre has many activities on offer all priced at a fairly reasonable rate. Listed below are the things that The Heights has to offer and a little bit about it.
Swimming ...
There is both a children's pool and a regular pool both of a good size although neither full size pools as the large pool measures in at 25 meters. The children's pool however it lovely and warm and Jack does love having a splash around there. The pool is open long hours although it is best to check the timetable as there are classes or lane swimming booking up both pools on some days. For an adult swim you are looking to pay £2...

Kinetica @ Putney Leisure Centre
Advantages: pay monthly membership, no joining fee, huge high spec gym, car-park
Disadvantages: dated changing facilities, showers not up to much, very busy peak hours
...Putney Leisure Centre does exactly what it says on the tin..... and more! Yes its a leisure centre, but it's also a modernised gym on 3 levels wich caters for all lifting and cardio needs. Members are generally serious about their health and you very rarely see someone jogging whilst glued to their mobile!
Being a leisure centre and gym means that its a family friendly environment but you are not invaded by young children and teenagers as you're trying to get through your workout. The gym was recently upgraded and a childrens suite installed for certain age-groups to train in safety.
The one big factor for me was that you are not tied into a 12 month contract or lumbered with hefty joining fee's. To me this suggests that Kinetika have to work harder than most gyms to keep you coming back every month... which in turn makes Kinetika...

Lewisham Leisure
Advantages: Beautiful clean pool
Disadvantages: Awful changing facilities
...I am a frequent swimmer, which is great but in the borough of Lewisham can be difficult. The pools seem to over timetable themselves during the week so that obscure times are left for family or individual swimming, other times are filled with schools, lessons, ladies only, swimming clubs etc. The Bridge Leisure Centre is no exception to this and taking my two children swimming is a matter of checking the timetable daily and squeezing in an hour when the learner pool is free. Speaking of the learner pool it is of a good standard. One length of the pool is completely steps, which allow timid children to enter the pool with confidence and the water doesn't reach any more than 0.9m in depth. The pool is clean and seems to have a good range of swimming aids such as noodles and floats available to the general public. There doesnt appear to be...

Marymoose gets bowled over?kind of!
Advantages: A good evening activity unless you're a terribly bad loser like me!
Disadvantages: It's a bit like being back in the early 1990s?
...Centre?, although it?s not a leisure centre in its traditional sense (i.e. there?s no swimming pool), it is solely for bowling and quasar laser games.
Location The Bowling Alley is on the Derwent Howe Industrial Estate, in the building next to the Royal Mail sorting office. It?s one of several industrial looking buildings (like a big green hut thing), and it?s located not far from Workington train station. There is plenty of parking available.
Booking I had emailed the alley earlier in the week asking if I needed to book a lane and it was advised that I should in case they got in a big group of people, so I phoned them up (on 01900 872207). This was not necessary (that?s an understatement!) as it was pretty quiet for a Saturday night (dead morelike), but of course it?s always best to book and avoid potential...

Swimming & Other Sports, London SE26
Advantages: Great range of facilities at good prices & good accessibility
Disadvantages: Maintenance could be better & they could respond to feedback more
...I'm a keen swimmer and, because I try my best to keep it up when I'm working odd hours or in different locations, I use a number of resources to locate pools that are convenient and suitable for lane swimming. The only problem is that I normally only manage to get the most basic of information, like the address, the phone number and maybe a current timetable if I'm lucky. What I really want to know, without having to phone the centre, are the little details like "What kind of coin do I need for my locker?" "When are the best lane sessions?" "Will I have to walk through a dodgy housing estate to get there?" "Is there somewhere safe to park my bike?" I realized that there really aren't many reviews of pools and leisure centres here on Ciao, so what better place to start than with my own contribution? I hope this starts a bit of trend...

The Centre MK
Advantages: Vast range of stores
Disadvantages: Some duplicate stores
...is the Entertainer as this seems to cover good age range and also the genders really well. I think they have enough stores to cater for children's toys and that is a very good effort by the centre.
Men's Fashion
----------------------
The fashion stores dominate the centre in every single way. You have got the men's fashion stores such as Bank, Envy, Burton, John Lewis, BHS, Austin Reed, Next, Moss, One Republic and more.
The stores they have for fashion are everywhere and to be fair it is the biggest reason why I visit the centre Mk in the first place. I think they offer fantastic range of clothing stores to those which are for formal wear and suits to those which are casual wear and more the leisure look.
Most of the stores are big but the Next store is extremely huge and has the whole top floor dedicated to the men and this is...

Keeping Fit at a Not So Leisurely Pace
Advantages: Facilities all over the city, no contract to tie you in, excellent service overall
Disadvantages: Occasional staff shortages, unruly kids
...Introduction
Scotland has an appalling health record - which if you look at the nation's love of anything that comes out of a deep fat frier, whisky, cigarettes and sugar is no real surprise.
I have a typically Scottish sweet tooth and in the time I have lived in Edinburgh I have tried my level best to ensure I get a decent amount of exercise to try to counter the calorific content of the sweet treats I enjoy.
There are, of course, a large number of private health clubs in the city, offering fantastic facilities. However they are not cheap and many tie you into a contract that can be difficult to extricate oneself from if, for various reasons, you can no longer make use of your membership.

The village hotel & leisure club in Wirral.
Advantages: Clean and fresh
Disadvantages: Like a rabbit Warren
...The village hotel & leisure club in Wirral
Have recently joined here and at £32 per month, each, we feel we have a bargain. They even waved the joining fee, normally £70.
We joined, my wife and I, on the ?Flexi? promotion. This is where you are only tied in for 3 months as opposed to the ?Full? 12 month tie in.
Extras given include £15 to spend in their restaurants, 10% discounts in the bars and coffee shop and 2 free vouchers for friends/family. The vouchers entitle the user to a free week in the gym, pool etc worth £70.
If you recommend someone and they join you also get £50 of a nights stay in the hotel.
A fair few incentives but to be honest we just want to use the leisure facilities.
My wife is recovering from Breast Cancer and she has some back problems resulting from the Radiography. She...
