Brean Leisure Park - Fun City
Advantages: Reasonable costs
Disadvantages: A lot of steps so unsuitable for wheelchair users in places
...Brean Leisure Park
A/N: You can stay in accommodation here or visit as a day guest. We had accommodation near by so this review is written from that perspective. Thanks.
As some of you may know if you read my review before this, our recent holiday - the first with our baby daughter - took us to Brean in Somerset where we stayed in Brean Sands Pontins Holiday Park, and right next door what did we find? Only a Leisure park. You may be asking yourself why the surprised tone? Well the answer to that is clear - Brean is a very small and quiet place and there is not much in this village size beach town except sandy beaches and the odd shop here and there, so to find a leisure park of decent size was not what I was expecting.
Due to holidaying with a 5 month old baby, we were limited to what we could do, yet we found that this...

The best caravan park around!
Advantages: Brand new caravans that are well kept.
Disadvantages: As with all caravans a little on the pricey side.
...Apologies in advance, this is long review!
After seeing a report on my local news the other night I thought I would review the one thing that, over the last 5-6 years of my life has been a constant, come rain or shine, recession or boom we have visited and stayed at this particular place as our holiday home of choice.
The particular report I was referring to earlier, was the fact that out of all the poor companies in my local area (I live in the Midlands, we are one of the worst hit areas for redundancy?s), the caravan companies were flourishing.
Now as I have already stated, we (myself, my husband, my two children and various other members of my family, depending who is available on holiday week!), have stayed at this particular caravan site for a while.
The caravan site in question is ?Tomlinsons caravan and leisure park...

Skegness Water Leisure Park (Tents and Caravans)
Advantages: Lovely surroundings, excellent on-site facilities, polite and friendly staff
Disadvantages: A fair walk to Fantasy Island, silly push button showers, some uneven ground for tents
...Well, it was mid-september, and we decided we needed a break, so being first time campers (I'd been camping when I was younger, with my parents and brother and sisters, but that was nearly 25 years ago, and now I had my own family), and having got all the camping gear, (frame tent, cooking stove, air beds, sleeping bags, etc), we decided to go camping in Ingoldmells in Skegness, (or Skeggy to most of us in Yorkshire!)
We searched the Internet for a place to stay, and came across a few sites, including The Skegness Leisure Water Park, which looked pretty good and reasonably priced.
We set off from Sheffield around 3pm, after having loaded the car up, (6 birth family frame tent with all poles, inner sleeping compartment and seperate ground sheet, cooking equipment, pots, pans, table, air bed, sleeping bags, suitcase, baby's travel cot...

SOMERSETS ONLY FUN PARK
Advantages: Kids like it, can be cheap if you get the wristbands
Disadvantages: Can work out expensive, Rides have seen better days
...wasn't for the sea or beach as every time I went there I never spent any length of time on it due to the sea always being out and the sinking sand stopping you getting anywhere near it, but also that the water was never the cleanest so I never wanted to swim in it anyway. I worked out that there were only a few reasons why people went there it was close by and it had a mini Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
The Leisure Park is very small but has about 30 or 40 rides and attractions, so in reality its more like an oversized fair.
The park is sign posted from the M5 and can be accessed either by going through Weston Super Mare or by leaving the M5 and going through Burnham on Sea.
I don't know how old the park is but I remember going to Brean for the first time in the mid 80s and it was there then. Back then it wasn't as big as it is these...

A night in a car park.
Advantages: Close to the channel ports. Close to beach.
Disadvantages: Feels like a cattle pen. In the middle of a housing estate.
...Southsea Leisure Park is where I stayed last Friday night with my wife and two stepchildren and firstly I would like to state that "LEISURE PARK" is not what I would call it and I find it misleading. The website states that certain facilities such as swimming pool, golf, fishing, children's play area, and others are onsite or nearby, but fails to tell you exactly which facilities are onsite and which ones are not.
I first booked this site a month ago and found the booking service by telephone very easy. You can also book online at "Southsealeisurepark.com" but you will have to wait for a response. At the time of booking the person who took my call was helpful and polite. As I was only giving short notice of my visit I was asked to pay on arrival which was surprising but useful as I didn't have to hunt down my credit card.
We left...

Oakwood Lesiure Park - Fun for the whole Family!!
Advantages: No ride charges, new rides every year, weather report on website
Disadvantages: Pricey food, queues, school trips in summer, transport can be difficult
...Oakwood Leisure Park is situated in Pembrokeshire, just off the A40 at Canaston Bridge, next to the CC2000 Bowling Alley and Entertainment Centre.
The easiest and most convenient method of travel is definitely by car - as for most places in Pembrokeshire!! However, there are a number of alternative options available:
Bus: On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 25th July to 31st August, Pembrokeshire Country Council operate a Day Tripper bus services which serves Oakwood and other destinations around Pembrokeshire. Tickets are reasonable priced at £6 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 kids) - full details available from www.visitpembrokeshire.com/daytripper .
Train: The nearest train station is 5 miles from Oakwood in Narbeth, so a taxi is required to complete your journey. Jeff's Cabs provide a local service on telephone...

Leisure? I think not.
Advantages: Something to do if you're bored
Disadvantages: There's nothing there anymore!!
...Lancaster Leisure Park has the slogan "Lancashire's Premier Tourist Attraction".
Well knock me down with a feather and call in Trades Descriptions because it is neither premier nor an attraction.
In the good old days when I was little it was called Hornsea Pottery. There was a little farm that you could reach by one of those cute little trains - the type you find on seaside promenades etc. And a play fort that was really exciting when you're little. And it's piece de resistance- the robla run.
The robla run was basically a bobsleigh. You sat on a little trolley with a lever to control the speed and rode down a bobsleigh track. The only bad part was you had to carry your "robla" all the way to the top of the hill before you could ride down. Oh and if you came off on your way down you could probably really injure yourself.
Anyway...

The village hotel & leisure club in Wirral.
Advantages: Clean and fresh
Disadvantages: Like a rabbit Warren
...The village hotel & leisure club in Wirral
Have recently joined here and at £32 per month, each, we feel we have a bargain. They even waved the joining fee, normally £70.
We joined, my wife and I, on the ?Flexi? promotion. This is where you are only tied in for 3 months as opposed to the ?Full? 12 month tie in.
Extras given include £15 to spend in their restaurants, 10% discounts in the bars and coffee shop and 2 free vouchers for friends/family. The vouchers entitle the user to a free week in the gym, pool etc worth £70.
If you recommend someone and they join you also get £50 of a nights stay in the hotel.
A fair few incentives but to be honest we just want to use the leisure facilities.
My wife is recovering from Breast Cancer and she has some back problems resulting from the Radiography. She...

Dover Leisure Centre
Advantages: You don't need to be a member to use the facilities
Disadvantages: Certain parts may be shut due to private events
...Living in Dover means that we don't have too many facilities. Dover Leisure Centre is about the only sporting facility in Dover other than the football and rugby pitches.
Location
Dover Leisure Centre is located on Townwall Street in Dover which is pretty much on the seafront and within walking distance to the Port of Dover. It is also within walking distance of Dover town, Dover Priory Station and Pencester bus station.
Facilities
There are two swimming pools at Dover Leisure Centre. There is a main swimming pool which is 25 metres and also a learner / childrens pool. In the main pool, there are two lanes of the swimming pool which are sectioned off to create one slow, and one fast swimming lane.
The rest of the pool is then literally just open water where people can swim at their own leisure.
The smaller pool is much...

Keeping Fit at a Not So Leisurely Pace
Advantages: Facilities all over the city, no contract to tie you in, excellent service overall
Disadvantages: Occasional staff shortages, unruly kids
..., who really doesn't like boys, is particularly fond of this one and even better the girls have exclusive use of the pool for this session. Also, several girls she knows from school are regulars so they are completely used to her sometimes unpredictable behaviour.
Some of the centres have crèches and some are more car friendly than others. For example, Dalry Swim Centre has no parking at all, whereas Drumbrae and Ainslie Park have large car parks. Some have café facilities, others only offer vending machines.
It's also worth noting that the city's best pool, the Royal Commonwealth, is currently closed for refurbishment and won't be open again until 2011. I mention this as I know this establishment is popular with tourists to the city.
I have used Edinburgh Leisure fairly regularly since I moved to the city and can recommend it to residents...
