Think Thinkpad
Advantages: Speedy, Robust, Good graphics card, Connectivity
Disadvantages: Not the prettiest of designs, Annoying keyboard layout w/ no Windows key and Fn/Ctrl key placement
...INTRODUCTION
I bought myself a used IBM / Lenovo Thinkpad T41 for £129 and although it's a pretty old machine (probably from 2004) and fairly low spec by today's standards, I still feel it was a bargain. This was from Cash Converters.
DESIGN
The machine, like all IBM (now made by Lenovo) notebooks are intended for business users and so the design is not particularly sleek but instead, have a very 'professional' look to them. They all seem to be black with a little bit of red on the button and either a red or blue knob for controlling the mouse pointer. Some people think they're on the ugly side but I actually quite like the look of the Thinkpads. I've noticed that all IBM / Lenovo Thinkpads look alike and have the same body, keyboard and use the same smooth black matte material rather than plastic that most other...

The T42: Time to use your Thinkpad!
Advantages: High spec for low refurb price, Windows XP Pro, great build
Disadvantages: Small hard drive, only 2 USB ports
...did manage to snap a little bit of the corner casing off when I got it tangled on my duvet cover as it was sitting on the bed once, but that's only a cosmetic problem which was my fault and not the laptops. Other than that, its build is fine. Its keys are great to type on and are the closest I've felt to a regular PC keyboard on a laptop. It comes with both a track point (central red pivot thing) and a touch pad. I prefer the touch pad; it is perfectly responsive and smooth.
The laptop is very quiet in use and you can only hear the fan when it overheats or when the DVD drive starts. The drive ejects as if it is on a catch which feels flimsy but is needed to keep it compactly tucked away. I have had no issues with hard drive clicking but wouldn't be off put if I did as long as the machine is working fine. If you drop it by accident...

Advanced Notebook
Advantages: Latest DRR3 RAM, fast processor
Disadvantages: Average Graphics and Battery Back-up
...Lenovo Thinkpad T400 2765
**********************
Lenovo, The IBM Group Company is still leading with business computing. There are many models of personal computers and notebooks are available but we have some kind of incompleteness that this should be or should not be. But it is the rule of nature that we always require some more but the requirement always keep growing up. Have a look on new machine or notebook from Lenovo which can be a good companion of your daily routine life.
***
The Speed
Speed, means the processing speed of any computing machine is very important and it should be as fast as we require and this notebook also has a good processor with new P series from Intel, and it is Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 with total clock speed of 2.4 GHz. Wow the 2.4 GHz speed is presently considered as good enough and the processing speed...

My precious treasure
Advantages: Long battery life, cool under working conditions.
Disadvantages: ThinkLight is a little bit too bright
...provides access help and other topics regarding usage of the notebook. What I like is the ThinkVantage button. It's like, with a push of a button, you gain access to topics which you might want to know more or learn more, including security. Another feature would be the 'Fn' key, in short for function key. This key is a shortcut to 12 special ThinkPad features. Some of them include locking the computer , changing the display settings and switching on/off the ThinkLight .
Outstanding performance
The T400, besides having a powerful core 2 Duo processor, Lenovo included for the graphics, an ATI Radeon 3470 video card with 256MB of GDDR3 memory. A speedy 320 GB SATA HDD was also included, which enabled applications to load without much lag. For me, I would say that the T400 is strong and durable for day-to-day usage. It...

Lenovo T61 with Linux
Advantages: High quality notebook
Disadvantages: Higher price
...I tried new Lenovo T61 with configuration:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz
1GB RAM
nVidia Quadro 140M
100GB 7200RPM disc
14.1" wide screen 1440x900px
Webcamera, fingerprint reader
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
6 cell battery
New thinkpad is traditionally whole black. It is very well built as usual. Nothing screapes and the keyboard is nice acurrate.Titan-Magnesium
hardeness was improved by hardening back part of chassis. The only thing where is the influence of Lenovo on IBM shown are the connectors for reproductors and microphone.
They were placed in front of laptop what is not so handsome.
After few hours of initial testing i revealed a small bug - it is impossible to change the backlight intensity for the display.
I tried to run a Linux system so i have to write some hints:
The graphics card works well with the newest...

The T42 - a good all round machine
Advantages: Slim, very light, IBM cachet, good screen, fantastic keyboard
Disadvantages: Build quality perhaps, ticking hard drive
.... My T-41 had a similar spec drive, but it was a Fujitsu one and didn't tick. The T42 has a Hitachi Travelstar drive. Both were made around the same time, according to the IBM site. My T42 seems to have had a rather long shelf time. While we're on hard drive issues, I've also heard rumours that a lot of the T-42's made in 2005 have hard drives going bad and having to be returned to base for replacement. Just google it, and you'll probably come up with something.
I've been a fan of IBM thinkpads for a while now, having had the T30 and the T41 before this one. I resisted from buying the T43 (the T60 is out of my price range anyway) since online reviews don't really rate it very high. The first thing you do notice when you take it out of the box is how flimsier it is than the other 2 models. I mean flimsier, and not flimsy. After all the T42...

Lenovo ThinkPad R60e
Advantages: easy to use, long battery life
Disadvantages: no mouse touchpad, slow due to security software
...found harddrive space no problem at all- I store music and work and photos on it, but very few and short videos, and haven't installed many games. The 512Mb RAM is possibly a little low- Lenovo automatically install software that regularly reminds you to back up your hard drive and defragment, etc- which is good, as it means you are more likely to do so, which is good for your machine, however bad as it obviously slows down the machine further. At startup, therefore, the machine is rather slow, however speeds up once everything has registered and the computer has sorted itself out.
Another useful thing with this laptop is a little light that you can switch on so that you can see your keyboard in the dark, if that is something you would need.
As with all laptops, this one has it's own allocation of function keys on the keyboard...

The IBM T42 Legend
Advantages: Reliable, Well Made, Great features
Disadvantages: Older technology
...to run slower than mine, so I suggest buying a second hand T42 instead for around £370 you can have mint condition T42, some with warranty's.
The only thing I found lacking was the hard drive as its only 40GB, but you can either pick up an external hard drive for around £50 for 160GB and have a combined memory of 200GB or buy a new hard drive for the laptop for around £40 for 80GB new. I have managed to survive with just 40GB by not loading it up with to many movies and music. But it's a laptop not a PC after all.
I can see my self using this laptop in two years time then buying another IBM....

Thinking of a Thinkpad?
Advantages: Light, flat and compact
Disadvantages: Being Black
...I had wanted a laptop for years but never had the courage to actually take the final step of buying one. Even after looking at countless different brands and models I still chose a desktop PC!
At a new job I was given a Thinkpad T43. I found it incredibly easy to use, and as I was splitting my time between the office and home was having to carry it around with me.
After months of using the laptop my desktop PC at home died and I decided to try and replace it with a Thinkpad. Because I was on a restricted budget and couldn't afford a new laptop I decided to see what was available second-hand. I was overjoyed to find a company on ebay that sells refurbished Thinkpads and bought mine a good couple of months ago. So I now have 2 laptops to use - 1 for work and 1 for personal use.
The Thinkpads are light for a laptop, very flat...

IBM T41 LapTop
Advantages: Robust fells and looks greats easy to move around with.
Disadvantages: Need more memory with it
...I have brought eight of these IBM T41 laptops, there specifcations our, 1.6 GHz Intel Pentium Processor, 256 MB of memory but with have brought extra ram for making in 512mb, it has a 40 GB hard disk drive, 14.1" TFT active matrix display with Microsoft Windows XP Professional and it weights about 2.3 kg Weight and battery life is about 4.7 hours. It also has built wireless which is pretty good you will have to update the driver on the wireless card first as the old driver ahas a little bug. Its supports Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet but if youhave wireless you need this and has a ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500 - 32 MB which is good and doesnt come up with any problems and it also has bluetooth capabilites to link your mobile to your laptop this will only work if you mobile phone has bluetooth built on it.
These laptops our...
