Life Through A Lens
Advantages: Friendly Atmosphere
Disadvantages: Not A Tourist Destination
...the avidly supported football team, Racing Club de Lens play. Matches in the 42,000-seater stadium take place in the evenings (2000h) and are of great atmosphere. The supporters have often been voted number one in France and very little trouble ever occurs if at all (usually this comes from away fans and has only occurred once or twice in 5 years). Adult tickets are as cheap as ?9 (£6) and can range up to ?24 (£18) for the more reserved but less exciting seats.
The Tourist Information Centre is regularly open and always willing to furnish a visitor with possible activities and sites of interest. They have many brochures on where to go and how to spend a day and can easily be contacted in advance by visiting www.ot-lenslievin.com or ringing +33.3.21.67.66.66.
Although I know little about the restaurants in Lens, there are a large enough...

Canon Lens
Advantages: Lightweight
Disadvantages: None
...This is a good quality lens that offers good value for money. It's a great lens for any canon enthusiast and incorporates plenty of features that I would highly recommend. This really is a wonderful piece of kit that should go well with many accessories because it really looks good. After using this product for a few months I have not so far come up against any reliability issues but only time will tell. I therefore would recommend the product. However, always think carefully as to whether you actually really need something before you buy it. We buy so many things nowadays that we don't really need.

Cheap lens = cheap photos!
Advantages: Worst lens for a professional but good to start out with; cheap; easy to learn with;
Disadvantages: Worst lens for a pro, frontal element rotates,
...was good for wide-angled photographs for example of landscape photographs.
Detail in the photos I have produced using this has been fairly average; the sharpness could have been improved; to use this, I would have to consider the lightning very carefully, adjusting the ISO speed, F/stops and the shutter speed just to ensure a sharp picture. I know that the IS range lens, the quality is so much better and you don't have to adjust it as much as you do with this lens.
The front element of the lens rotates when it focusses so it is rather unprofessional that it should rotate; what about the filters that clips onto the front? Canon obviously thought that people who uses filters will have upgraded from this lens before it became a problem. Obviously they were wrong.
This lens suffers massive flares when approached by certain sunlight, it...

Kitsch Kit Lens
Advantages: Keeps the dust off the sensor!
Disadvantages: Poor quality. Poor build quality, Poor performance.
...I have both purchased and won several entry level Canon DSLR's, each of which have been furnished with this 'kit' lens.
It is quite obviously the result of cost-cutting exercises at Canon in an effort to keep a headline grabbing low prices for the camera/lens combinations as advertised in the photographic press and at point of sale. This is very evident in the build quality of the lens. It is really quite poor. Very plasticy, extremely light (too light in my opinion) and somewhat 'sloppy' in it's fit and finish. Certainly NOT a lens to fill the purchaser with pride and even less so, confidence.
This is born out by results. Lens quality is quite poor mostly, although quite good results can be obtained when shooting wide to mid zoom range at f/8 to f/11. Results at the tele end of the zoom are not so good, except when shooting at f...

Robbie Williams' life thru a lens
Advantages: Some great tunes, including signature Angels
Disadvantages: One track doesn't fit, others are weak
...When Robbie Williams split from Take That following a disagreement in 1996 and he announced he would be starting a solo career, many were not sure. Gary Barlow had been the main driving vocal talent behind Take That. The other problem was the contract preventing him from releasing anything solo for a certain length of time after splitting from the rest of the band.
This may have worked out to have been a good move, as Williams' first album, 'Life Thru A Lens', was a smash success, reaching the number 1 chart spot. The time between the split and when he released the album in 2007 may have been instrumental in the balance of the tracks on the album. The album features hits such as 'Angels', and 'Let Me Entertain You'.
These are the tracks:
1. Lazy Days
2. Life Thru A Lens
3. Ego A Go Go
4. Angels
5. South Of The Border

A lens for sport and wildlife
Advantages: Excellent over all range
Disadvantages: Weight and possibly cost
...of the lens is changed.
Also useful is the full manual focus ring that is
located at the rear of the lens. There is the ultra
quiet hypersonic motor for Auto focus.
Both these rings are coated with non slip rubber.
The clarity of image over the whole range of the
lens has to be seen. I have found no trace of
distortion or aberration at any zoom. This I
understand is because of the glass used and the special coating of same.
Tripod mount is magnesium to keep weight down.
Comes with its own carry case, hand straps and
manual.
The lens is made of black non reflective metal
and has a black plastic lens hood with bayonet
fastening.
Recently I moved to digital photography from
standard film. I found that I was reaching
the limits of what I could do with my standard
cameras. I like to photograph nature, Birds...

Nearly one 'L' of a lens
Advantages: Useful range. Fast f/2.8 aperture. Great IS. Superb image quality.
Disadvantages: Lens hood costs extra!
...Having owned and used a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM zoom lens for around 15 months, I feel that I have some well balanced experience with it.
Being an EF-S lens (the 'S' standing for 'Short' back-focus), it is designed for use ONLY with cameras having APS-C size sensors. Do not attempt to use one on a full-frame DSLR or 35mm SLR camera. Firstly, such lenses have a reduced image circle which will produce severe vignetting on large sensor cameras and secondly, the mount of the rear lens element could be struck by the camera's mirror, causing serious damage.
On a Canon APS-C size DSLR, this 3.2x zoom provides a useful range of focal lengths from 27.2mm to 88mm with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 which is consistent throughout the zoom range. This fast aperture makes the lens eminently suitable for low-light work, particularly as it...

Cinderella of the lens world!
Advantages: Compact. Light. Versatile. Good image quality at medium apertures.
Disadvantages: Small maximum aperture. Noisy/harsh AF. Slightly limited zoom range.
...aperture, particularly at 50mm and f/5.6, it gets better. Much better! Stopping down at any focal length, to around f/8 or f/11 produces extremely good results. I have made huge prints from files produced by this lens at these apertures, some cropped image prints being equivalent to sections from 20"x30" prints. They have remained surprisingly sharp, even when viewed at normal distance for 8"x10" prints rather than 20"x30" as might be expected.
The lens covers a limited but useful range of focal lengths, making a great little general purpose, highly compact, 'standard' lens. My only criticism is the somewhat harsh and slightly noisy auto-focus. HSM it aint! Not great for candid shots! However, at this price point, what more would you expect and, in my opinion, what more could you ask for? A great little lens.

The Canon 10-20mm EF-S lens, perfect for landscapes.
Advantages: Excellent quality pictures, Useful wide angle range. Good build quality.
Disadvantages: No lens hood, Not compatible with all EOS cameras
...factor of the APS-C sized censor, it will have an effective focal length of 16-35.2mm (35mm equivalent) which is a very useful wide-angle range that is ideal for landscape photography, it is also very useful for indoor photography, especially where space is tight.
Focusing
This lens has a USM motor which means that focusing is lightning fast and very quiet, I have found that the focusing is very accurate with this lens, the pictures are very sharp from the center, right out to the corners of the frame, and are well focused throughout the focal range of the lens, especially when stopped down a couple of stops from the maximum aperture, and the finest picture details are rendered accurately, even on a 15mp camera which would show up any flaws in the lens.
Colours
Colours are rendered very well, and the pictures are...

Costner strikes lucky on the Open Range
Advantages: Greatactingsanddirecting
Disadvantages: Very long, simple plot
...The other night I put my feet up with a good bottle of wine and scoured my DVD collection for something I was in the mood for. A while back, I had seen 'Open Range' for sale in a Virgin outlet store for £2, and thought 'Why not?' Deciding I was in the mood for a Western, I popped it in the DVD player and sat back, wondering how long I would last before getting bored. Yet I was surprised to find myself, half an hour later, on the edge of my seat, following a good plotline and some brilliant acting.
Brief Overview
'Open Range' is the tale of a group of free grazing cattle owners. It has Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall as the billing leads, with a host of recognisables in the support cast, including Annette Benning and Michael Gambon.
The Plot
Four free grazers, including Charley Waite (Costner) and Boss Spearman (Duvall), come...
