Deux Alpes - once is enough

Advantages: Good for beginners, good nightlife, sunny, access to La Grave, free swimming/skating
Disadvantages: Limited skiing, not ideal resort layout, frustrating slope and lift layout at hometime

It's a little unfair as, on an individual basis, the resort compares extremely well to just about any in France. It is the second oldest in resort in the country, after the world famous Chamonix and can boast more than 200km of runs to itself. However, while 2 Alpes may individually have a large ski-area, it lacks the collective might of areas such as the Trois Vallees or Espace Killy when it comes to a linked network of slopes. Chalet Isis - Chalets De l'altiport Alpe D'Huez

Advantages: Ski in, ski out,
Disadvantages: In the middle of nowhere

...My wife and I stayed with some friends at Chalet Isis in the Chalets de l'Altiport area of Alpe D'Huez 1850 in March 08. We booked through skialacarte. The altiport chalets are all pretty new and are in a gated community situated over the road from the small airport, and about 600 metres from the Les Bergers part of Alpe D'Huez, with the main town a few hundred metres further away. Access was via Grenoble International Airport St Geoirs - 99 kms away and the private transfer by the chalet staff took 1 hour 25 minutes. The chalet sleeps 16 and the rest of the rooms were occupied by other guests. Each room had private ensuite facilities apart from one of the rooms on the ground floor which had a shower and WC room which was also the facility for people using the sauna. Nobody using the sauna ever used this room as far as we could see...

Review of Les châlets de l'Altiport, L'Alpe-d'Huez

Some great skiing to be had

Advantages: Snow almost guaranteed
Disadvantages: Awkward accessibility

...This year we were lucky enough to pick Les2Alpes as our destination, here's why it was a good choice, along with one or two bad points about the place. To get to this high mountain resort we flew from Gatwick to Grenoble, a 1 hour 5 minute flight with a 1 hour 30 minute transfer on the back of it. We were booked into a First Choice Chalet as a group of 8, along with another group of 6. The Chalet Grand Tetras wasn’t particularly grand, but this was more than made up for by the truly excellent food provided by the Chalet hosts, including L’Escargot as an aperitif one evening. Their claim to fame was that Paddy Ashdown had stayed there a few weeks earlier, coincidentally we had his bedroom – that’s probably as close to fame as I’ll ever get. Simply Cool (Or Cold)

Advantages: Varied Skiing for ALL abilities
Disadvantages: One big Road.

...I have been skiing for 20+ years and have visited many of the resorts in the Alps during this time. Last winter though I spotted a cheap last minute deal to Deux Alps. Cost- £299 Catered Chalet (skiworld) this included Flights from Manchester and a transfer of only 11/2 hrs, which is great for the Alps. 'Catered' chalets, I have found, can vary mainly due to the staff running them, but still offer the convienience of having a good bread based breakfast, bread and cakes when you return from the slopes and a 3 course meal in the evening. With food taken care of a Hot dog on the slopes usually surfices. Most Catered chalets nowadays also offer free wine with the meal. If you are in a group then this is fantastic as when you have gotten over the vinigary taste, It sets you up nicely for hitting the bars! The SKiworld chalet in Deux Alps...

Best Western Le Donjon Les Ramparts certainly not Best Value

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Split into different buildings, expensive.

Parking The Hotel Le Donjon Les Ramparts is situated within the city walls, so we made sure we checked on parking facilities for which we were quoted 10 Euros per night. It wasn?t until we arrived that we were informed that we could only take our cars in after 10.30pm at night and had to remove them before eight in the morning. We left ours outside the walls of the city! Check In On arrival we followed directions to the hotel only to find that it was split into three parts and reception was in another building a five/ten minute walk away (not good, it was 90 degrees and the city was heaving with people). Epiphone Les Paul Studio, a little too evil?

...Firstly i'd like to say that for me this guitar looks rather drab and boring, as it is so plain and all in black. There is no contrast in colour and doesn't really stand out. But with that now said, i will go onto the other aspects. It has the standard les paul fittings, which are sturdy and reliable, and the tuners that hold their tuning very well. The pickups are high output and sound very heavy, which is ideal for hard rock and metal. The neck pickup sounds a bit too heavy and doesn't sound great with only light distortion but sound good clean. The guitar is quite heavy in weight and can make my shoulder ache if i've had it on the strap too long. But the weight is only due to the mahogany it is made from. It is buit very well and is also sturdy. The fitted neck is very nice and adds to the build quility....

As I briefly mentioned in one of my previous reviews, this is a humongous holiday resort which stretches out for miles and miles, and comprises of activities, fun and cuisine for every ages and tastes. It is situated at Pailles, a small town just a few minutes before Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. Finding the road to Domaines Les Pailles turned out to be quite difficult because there is one specific corner road we had to turn into and we kept missing roads! But once we got into the road which would take us to the resort, it was as if we'd immediately been shut out of the real world. Disadvantages: The road. The aspect of the slope means icy afternoons.

...Les Deux Alpes is a purpose built ski resort, it does not seem to have been planned at all. A large road runs straight through the middle of town, which seems to have sprawled alongside. Many of the buildings have obviously attempted to create a rustic, mountain feel, but for me the road interrupts feelings of charm. But what about the terrain. A rapid and efficient lift system services a wide and varied landscape, that is suitable for all abilties. The glacier provides for a very long season at the top, and links to other resorts are also possible. One thing that should be mentioned however, is the route back down to the village, in some sections it is steep and often icy. There is also a "beginner" trail down but this could not be recommended for riders, it is narrow and has flat spots. All in all, a good skiing experience, but...

Review of Les Deux Alpes

Do you hear the people singing along with Les Mis the DVD?

Advantages: Great Cast, Great Musical, The Extra performance of Do You Hear the People Sing and One Day More.
Disadvantages: No the full score.

...Les Miserables is a near-perfect show. It has great songs and brilliant characters which are often portrayed by brilliant actors. There is no finer display of this casting than the Anniversary DVD. The original Valjean, Colm Wilkinson has not lost any of his wonderful voice and his counter-part Javert, Philip Quast, is equally as 'on-form'. Ruthie Henshall and Lea Salonga are also fine at their parts and the original Marius, Michael Ball is fantastic as usual. Michael Maguire's American accent makes a nice change and provides the perfect voice for Enjolras. As Les Miserables is a predominantly stationairy show anyway, the lack of movement in the DVD is not a problem. The characters are in costume and do a fair amount of moving making the DVD really seem like Les Mis. The songs are well sung by all and there no weak links in the show...
