TOP 25 maps (maps where the code ends in "T") are for places of 'intéresse aux touristes'. They are real walkers' maps with a wide variety of useful information on paths and tracks such as, long distance GR (Grande Randonnée) routes, interesting unsignposted ways along footpaths, cross-country or high mountain skiing routes, hard parts of a hiking trail, restricted zones, huts and mountain refuges. Terrain information is clearly depicted such as lakes, swamps, marsh, tree-lined streams, cascades, damns, navigable canals, different sorts of woodland, brush and unusual features such as mines and caves. Other useful information for the visitor includes campsites, riding centres, climbing and hang-gliding sites, recreation areas, golf and tennis facilities, canoe and kayaking locations. Also shown are National Park boundaries, cities and towns of particular interest, notable monuments and maybe most importantly TIC (tourist information centres). The map legend is in French and English and each TOP 25 map covers an area of approximately 28 x 21 km (17 x 13 miles) with contour intervals at 5 metres, except in mountainous areas where the maps have hill shading and contours are every 10 metres. This map comes supplied with a handy distance measuring ruler, specifically printed for use with 1:25 000 scale mapping, which when placed onto the map allows the user to instantly read off point to point distances (as the crow flies) in either miles or kilometres. Advantages: Massive ski area, no queues, well kept pistes
Disadvantages: A little expensive
...I am a seasoned skier and have been skiing for the past 24 years, as a holiday skier, and I can honestly say Les Arcs is the best ski resort I have been to. I went there about 3 years ago, and our hotel - the name escapes me - was built into the side of the mountain in Arc 2000. The boot room was on the top floor, which confused us on the first day. Les Arcs 1800
Advantages: ease of access, huge ski area, good resorts, excellent apres ski
Disadvantages: poorly groomed pistes and very busy at weekends
...operate from Les Arcs 1800 and I booked a private lesson with the French Ski School ESL for £40 for 2 hours which I thought was very reasonalbe.
For more info on the resort, including webcam pictures, (web cam located at the top of the Transarc gondola at 2600m) visit www.lesarcs.com which I found very helpful with up to date weather reports and lots of details about the resort etc....

Les ARCs Simply Fantastic Skiing
Advantages: Huge Ski Area-Huge bar area!
Disadvantages: French Airports!
...One of teh most famous resorts in the Alps, Les Arcs is a purpose built resort on 3 levels. The 3 Villages at 1600, 1800 and 2000 have individual qualities which make them unique.
1600- near to bars and shops, obviously lower down the mountain , but more traditional than the other 2. Also nearer to the beginner slopes which makes it ideal for the family.
1800- Party Party Party! Bars...
