Les Gets- where I learnt to ski

Advantages: good snow, big ski area, pretty
Disadvantages: Fairly quiet, not a lot of shops.

...I have fond memories of Les Gets, the small Alpine village in the Haute Savoie. It was where I learnt to ski, and I had a fantastic time. The flight is normally to Geneva- a short flight- but the downside is that it is a long coach transfer. The roads are just a bit scarey to the resort (my friend was ill), so if you can afford it pay for a transfer by taxi- its about £90 now! The village is very pretty, based around one main road that links the valley with Morzine on the other side. A few shops, some bars, and a poor nightclub (l'igloo); but great skiing. On one side you have Mont Caly and Mont Chery. This is the highest skiing in the resort, is virtually snow sure, but is not that extensive, it does link with the back of Morzine if you fancy skiing one of the scariest runs I have ever met in my life! The other side is called "Les...

Ski Famille,superb family skiing

Advantages: Quality child care, skiing without worries
Disadvantages: slightly expensive

...If you want to go on a skiing holiday with your whole family, especially young children, then I recommend trying Ski Famille. They are a small company who operate only in Les Gets in France, offering fully catered chalets and all day child care. We have been with them three times and have always been fully satisfied, we have a child who is allergic to all nuts, and the always take particular care when preparing his food. An additional bonus is that the British Alpine Ski School is based in Les Gets and they offer excellent tution with British Instructors. You can get more info about the company from their web site www.skifamille.co.uk You can either fly there or self-drive, we have always driven it is only about 9 hrs from Calais nearly all by motorway...

wii ski

Advantages: great family fun
Disadvantages: n/a

...explore and each one with its own unique sights, sounds and skiing possibilities. With a selection of games from freestyle, ski school and races you have lots of choices. Overall, I'm impressed it is obviously not the same as skiing down a mountain, but it's as close as you're likely to get without leaving your living room. This is a great multiplayer game, the only downfall is that you cannot compete directly against other players, but I appreciate that you cannot have 4 Wii Balance boards in the front room. The game is responsive to movement on the balance board and make is an enjoyable game. This game has great effects like hearing the ice as you travel over it and tannoy announcements all add to the experience as if you were really skiing in a race. The graphics are good as I was not expecting the best graphics as this game has...

Review of Family Ski (Wii)

Ideal skiing for families and all abilities

Advantages: A large amount of varied skiing, child friendly
Disadvantages: Lack of height can sometimes be a problem

...This was one of my first opinions and very much lacking in detail, so I have totally rewrote it. Hope it is a least a bit better At this time of year many people are starting to think about booking a skiing holiday for next year. Everybody has their favourite resort but if you are looking for somewhere that is suitable for all standards of skiers, is easily drivable from England and is especially suitable for families then can I suggest Les Gets in France Les Gets is quite low in itself, village level is at 1175m but at the top it is 2350m and as it is part of the Portes du Soleil area there is plenty of high level skiing available should conditions be bad. Travel to resort: If you arrive by air at Geneva it is about a one-hour coach transfer, however it is an easy resort to drive to being only 870km or 550 miles from...

French skiing in Les Arcs.

Advantages: Massive ski area, no queues, well kept pistes
Disadvantages: A little expensive

...I am a seasoned skier and have been skiing for the past 24 years, as a holiday skier, and I can honestly say Les Arcs is the best ski resort I have been to. I went there about 3 years ago, and our hotel - the name escapes me - was built into the side of the mountain in Arc 2000. The boot room was on the top floor, which confused us on the first day. We went to the boot room got ready for our first days skiing, as we stepped out on to the snow we were greeted with our own downward slope on to the main chair lift which then took us to various parts of the Les Arcs mountains. Because of the location of the hotel we never needed to walk or use the ski bus to gain access to the slopes. And when we finished our days skiing, we skiied towards our hotel to get the hotels own drag lift back to the boot room. Whoever designed this hotel...

Les ARCs Simply Fantastic Skiing

Advantages: Huge Ski Area-Huge bar area!
Disadvantages: French Airports!

...One of teh most famous resorts in the Alps, Les Arcs is a purpose built resort on 3 levels. The 3 Villages at 1600, 1800 and 2000 have individual qualities which make them unique. 1600- near to bars and shops, obviously lower down the mountain , but more traditional than the other 2. Also nearer to the beginner slopes which makes it ideal for the family. 1800- Party Party Party! Bars and clubs, floodlit skiing. 2000- the highest and the best snow, purpose built this is a modern place with ample bars and restaurants, many ski in /ski out residences. Having stayed in all 3 places over the past few years all offer fantastic skiing and link brilliantly around the mountains and with the New link lift accross to La Plagne making this the biggest ski area in the alps (now bigger than 3 valleys) Always seems snow sure...

The scary slopes of the Sheffield Ski Village!

Advantages: Good fun
Disadvantages: Quite expensive

...nervous and apprehensive about. We each paid £17 for a one hour lesson, which included the hire of all of the equipment. The first difficult task was encountered shortly after parting with our money and long before we got anywhere near the slopes since neither of us could get our ski boots on no matter how hard we tried. After a few minutes we were both rolling around on the changing room floor hysterical until a member of staff took pity on us and sorted us out. Then, with no more excuses we headed off to the nursery slope where we met our instructor, Caroline. As there was only the two of us we were put with another group of people which formed ten of us in a group of absolute beginners. The lesson began with a quick chat and then we were each encouraged to participate, under the watchful eye of Caroline. The nursery slope is very...

Review of Sheffield Ski Village

Skiing heaven.

Advantages: Great holiday
Disadvantages: none

...brochure gives it 4 stars, but it gives intermediates and advanced skiers 5 stars. The thing that struck me was the variety of runs, there was the great big open runs that I was expecting then small pretty tree lined tracks with little paths that you could ski down through the trees, then one day he took us right to the top of the world ( and I believe that is what the lift was called) It was a very grey day and we were skiing in flat light so you couldn?t judge any distances or see the edge of the slope from the sky, quite scary to the inexperienced novice like me. The ski lifts were mostly chairs and yes I did the Bridget Jones thing and didn?t get off at the top, and started to go back down again, and they stopped the lift, bought it backwards a good 10 metres so I could get off, my eternal apologies to anyone further down the lift, who...

Les Paul

Advantages: Good build quality, tone and intonation
Disadvantages: expensive then cheap chineese imitations (but worth the money)

...this is a really good guitar for non beginners. The quality of sound and the intonation is really good. The fretboard is smooth and the finishing is good too. the pickups used and the electronics are high quality too.will sound great if used with a good amplifier. Good for studio recording and playing on stage as well. Its really good for people like me who cant afford to get a gibson as they are even more expensive. Epiphone is a company of gibson only, but sold at cheaper rates, with almost the same quality. I would recommend people to go for this guitar instead of those cheap chineese imitations as they arent even worth the money at all. Final words...really awesome guitar..learn and enjoy playing it!:)...

Ski Smooth Yogurt

Advantages: Delicious!
Disadvantages: Not big enough if anything!

...Everyone loves a good bargain...well these little yoghurts are buy one get one free in Sainsburys as I type! They're Ski Smooth Yoghurts, and are delicious. Made by Nestle, they come in blue packs of four with two flavours - strawberry and raspberry sized in 120 gram pots. As the title states, they're smooth versions so contain no 'bits' in them, something that I'm a big fan of as I hate getting little hard bits of fruit stuck in my teeth which can happen with yoghurts with the 'bits' still in them. According to the packaging, "with all natural ingredients and years of experience in blending delicious fruit with creamy tasting yoghurt, Ski yoghurts are just naturally delicious." Very much so! They're relatively thick when scooped up by your spoon but no stodgy or unpleasant when you eat it. It tastes very refreshing and precisely...
