LG dual layer DVD writer... not really great

Advantages: fast in writing discs, dual layer, ok looking

... Introduction As with most drives they do not last long, thus when it was time to give up the old one i went shopping for a new one. I came across this one which was extremely cheap and thus bought it as LG has become more reputable. The Pros This drive was very easy to install. It was practically a plug and play drive. It also came with different front panels in order to change colors from black and white. Although this may seem pointless it is a factor to take into consideration if you are after certain specification like color for your computer. The drive has never had a problem playing any cd's DVD's and etc. It is also very quiet unlike many drives out there. A superb external dvd writer

...Now I just hate it when DVD writers fail. I have had bad experience with the DVD writers that came with my desktop and laptop. Sometimes they cannot burn DVDs or even read ones that have been copied! But since I have bought this I have never had one problem. The advantages of this product are quite a few. The main one has to be the speed in which it burns CDs. At 48x, it cannot get much faster. I mean I have burnt quite a few CDs and time it took to burn a whole 700mb disk was about 90 seconds. The 16x for burning DVDs is about as fast as you can get nowadays. I burnt a home made movie which took up 4.4 GB in about 10 minutes. It never does it at exactly 16x, normally about 14x, it depends on the burning software. Another feature of this product is that can burn dual layer DVD disks that can hold 9.2 GBs. The disc, the disc, the disc is on fire.........

Advantages: Has the light scribe facility, cheap, reliable - Great value for money
Disadvantages: Not pleasing to the eye, fairly large and bulky, loud during the burning process

...point out that this burner will burn CDRs and DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs, so if you are requiring an external disc burner then I cannot recommend the LG highly enough. I appreciate it is not the smallest drive on the market, nor it is the quietest or even the quickest but it does exactly what it says on the tin, i.e. burn DVDs, and it does it very well. Being cheap and robust the LG is fantastic value for money, especially since it is better quality than many other hard drives that are at least double the price of this. The dual layer and light scribe features make this drive such a fantastic purchase since these are two features that are often found on burning drives that are much more expensive....

...I've reviewed the excellent LG GSA 4120B DVD-writer, and having owned it for 1.5 years, i got a new computer and needed some DVD-writers, so Sept 2005, i bought two of these, thats how much i trusted the quality of LG Super Multi Write Technology, and i haven't been let down. The only difference between the these and the slightly newer GSA 4167B is that these can only write to DVD+R dual layer, whereas the 4167B can write to both DVD+R dual layer and DVD-R Dual layer, not a major problem really, especially since dual layer media is quite expensive. The beauty of these machines, apart from their smart black exterior is that they can write to all three formats, DVD-,DVD+ and DVD-Ram.
