...I really dont like these LG Drives. I will explain why They are so slow I loaded vista on one of my pcs and it took ages to even get though the setup screens. Its quite fast burning dvds however i have notice that the NEC Drives are alot faster in both loading software, vista and doing cds and dvds. I am quite disapoinent with these as i brought serveral and the performance is naff. I would recommend using a NEC Drive or one simular. Big disapointment. I would not recomeend this drive at all and would like to let you all know my experience. Its good that it does Dual Layer but still would go for another make I got mine from Ebuyer and Paid £23.00 for it im debating weather to send these back, i build machines for customers and i certainly wouldn't put one of these in a customers machines. Disadvantages: NOT A LEADING NAME IN HARDWARES AND SLOW

...Although LG is not the leading names in both computer hard ware and software production but they have some thing really to offer in this their LG GGW multi blue precisely. The LG drive is capable of copying and reading information's as fast as it can and on the other hand the DVD play back. I got this specifically for writing and duplicating plates. CD writing has been a convenient stuff for me since I got this. I won't emphasize on the drive of being slow because in general, LG drives are slow in their performances but what I will emphasize on is the durability. It has lasted quite long in my household without problems and I like that. The drive needs Microsoft windows XP software recommendations, windows XP home edition and other Microsoft wares. Advantages: Read just about any DVD/CD media
Disadvantages: You need a powerful PSU to get it to burn DVD's

...The LG GSA 4167B 16x DVD writer is an excellent writer if you can get i to work. I bought one of these in December 2005, I installed it with ease, as it comes with a manual. Windows XP found and installed it with no problems at all. I placed a blank CD in the tray and wrote to it with no problems but when I placed a Verbatim blank DVD in to burn, it would not read it? I bought some Datawrite blanks and tried those again with no luck. I browsed the net and found that alot of people had the exact same problem, the problem seemed to occur when the PSU (Power Supply Unit) in the PC was 350kw or less. I installed a new 450kw PSU and Bingo it worked with everything I put in it. I've now had it for nearly 4 months and had about 2 bad burns out of countless DVD's and CD's This is a great writer, probably one of the best *IF you can get... Read review

... Introduction As with most drives they do not last long, thus when it was time to give up the old one i went shopping for a new one. I came across this one which was extremely cheap and thus bought it as LG has become more reputable. The Pros This drive was very easy to install. It was practically a plug and play drive. It also came with different front panels in order to change colors from black and white. Although this may seem pointless it is a factor to take into consideration if you are after certain specification like color for your computer. The drive has never had a problem playing any cd's DVD's and etc. It is also very quiet unlike many drives out there. ...I've reviewed the excellent LG GSA 4120B DVD-writer, and having owned it for 1.5 years, i got a new computer and needed some DVD-writers, so Sept 2005, i bought two of these, thats how much i trusted the quality of LG Super Multi Write Technology, and i haven't been let down. The only difference between the these and the slightly newer GSA 4167B is that these can only write to DVD+R dual layer, whereas the 4167B can write to both DVD+R dual layer and DVD-R Dual layer, not a major problem really, especially since dual layer media is quite expensive. The beauty of these machines, apart from their smart black exterior is that they can write to all three formats, DVD-,DVD+ and DVD-Ram. ...This drive is undoubtedly one of the cheapest DVD Dual Layer drives available. LG have done well with this drive, and have made it look stylish and work well. This drive has support for up to 48x burning speed for CDs, 16x speed for DVDs, 6x for DVD+R DL and 4x for DVD-R DL. These speeds are correct, and I have extensively tested all these media in this drive. It has burned perfectly each time and I have never had a problem. I have also owned this drive for a year now, and had absolutely no problems with it - it was simple to install with an IDE cable to the motherboard and normal molex connector to the power supply, and worked simply as plug and play. When installing the drive it is also possible to place it into the case either extruding, level or slightly into the case depending on where you want the drive to be. The drive is quiet... ...makes a better sense choice for backing up data from a computer, which needs to be re-written often as it can be re-written over 100,000 times, unlike the 1,000 times of DVD-RW and DVD+RW. But thats not the only reason to choose this drive. It is as fast and reliable as any other DVD-Writer on the market, and doesn't cost any more, so it seems silly to spend money on another dvd-writer that can't do everything this one can do. It also comes with a decent software bundle (that is continually updated so i won't list it) which allows you to straight away burn discs, capture and edit movies, backup your computer and much more. The drive comes in black, silver or beige (i like black personally). I have never once been let down by this drive, in fact i liked it so much, that i bought two of the newer LG GSA 4163BB Drive. ...I bought my LG 4166B drive because it was reccomended as being reliable and I was anxious to avoid having some of the problems that I'd been having with a Sony dvd-writer. I was also interested in its capacity to deal with all different kinds of media, including DVD-RAM. Many people might think that all DVD-writers are pretty much the same, but unfortunately that is not the case. I've found that drives vary considerably in their ability to burn without serious errors on different varieties of media. Some drives are extremely picky about the media they can burn on and are not compatible with that many discs. You might find that your back-up material burnt to DVD is pretty much useless because the drive that burned it couldn't handle the type of disc you used and produced so many errors the disc was unreadable (this happened to me... ...Had this for over a month and it's great. It is 100Hz (not 50Hz as stated) and the picture quality is fantastic!!! Sound quality is fab too. Easy to set up. Great variations on screen sizes and easy to adjust the picture quality using it's XD Engine. It also has in built freeview which is clear as a bell to watch unlike some boxes I have used in the past. EPG is easy to use. Remote control is good and if you have other LG products it might even control them too. I have mine on a stand but can be wall mounted to save space. Great looking in your living room too. I could ramble on about it but there is no point, it is just EXCELLENT!!!... Read review
