Try servicing the library.
Advantages: See text.
Disadvantages: See text.
...Hmmmmmm, not quite sure on how to do this but I would just like to write a review on using your local library services. I was a little surprised as to the area that it was in, but hey ho that is Ciao for you as they put it there supposedly! But anyway, back to the subject in mind.
How do I use the library service?
Well, you have to actually be a member in order to use pretty much any of the facilities that are on offer. It is usually free to join, but there are usually stipulations that you must agree to meet prior to joining:
1. That you are a permanent resident in the area that provides the service. If you live in Devon or Cornwall, then you can't use the service in Avon or Somerset. But even with that said, in Plymouth and Torbay now (both of these being in Devon) they are now separate authorities and so you are only as...

Libraries are Great Places!
Advantages: Great Places
Disadvantages: None
...Libraries are great places as there are so much on offer and it is more than borrowing books.
My little library as so much going on I am amazed that the different types of activiteis for all age groups.
There is Baby Bounce and Rhyme Time for the babies and toddlers where they have a volunteer who comes in and sings nursery rhymes and stories. Also this is a good way for young mums to meet other mums.
Reading Group where each month they discuss what the book is all about and what they thought about it.
On a saturday morning craft activities for children which is lovely to see as these days children seem to be glued to computers.
Recently the library set up a Knitting Group and i am looking forward in taking part so next month I am going along with my knitting needles and wool.
There are computers there as well and very well used...

Leave it in the Library
Advantages: A clever initial premise
Disadvantages: Confusing, poor characters, far-fetched
...Young Danish lawyer Jon Campelli is hot property; after successfully defending a competition addict accused of fencing stolen property, Jon is asked to defend, Remer, a notorious businessman accused of ruining other companies, in a case that could make his career. At that same time, Jon?s estranged father is found dead in his Copenhagen antiquarian bookshop; Jon hasn?t seen his father since he was sent away to a foster home after his mother committed suicide when Jon was just a boy. At the funeral, Luca Campelli?s long-serving assistant in the bookstore, Svend Iverson, tells Jon he doesn?t want the bookshop and that in spite of what happened in the Campelli family, that Luca would have wanted his son to inherit. Svend asks Jon to come to Libra di Luca later on when he?ll explain everything.
In a hidden library in the basement...

Library of Libraries
Advantages: Great Place to Work or Study
Disadvantages: Can be hard to prove you need to be there
...They say, write what you know and since I'm at the British Library at least twice I week, here goes! What follows isn't meant to be comprehensive; more of a taster.
WEBSITE
Before visiting the BL, it's well worth a visit to its website at www.bl.uk. Here you can search the library catalogues, see what events and exhibitions are on, check the hours of opening for the bit you need, check the online shop for BL publications and even apply to adopt a book in need of conservation. The website is easy to navigate. As a part-time bibliographer I use the main book catalogue (www.blpc.bl.uk) almost daily and it has not failed me yet. Maintenance times to the catalogue are announced well in advance. See the website also for information about pre-ordering materials. This is a service I have yet to use but others have said it works. The main...

I love my libraries!
Advantages: Free books, try new authors
Disadvantages: You can't keep the stock, funding cuts, library fines
..., libraries are useful places to relax and keep warm, or to provide routine and social interaction. I?m not sure government policy makers have ever understood the extent to which some people like to be able to visit their local council services in person.
Online catalogues
The past few years have brought lots of other changes, good and bad, in library services. One of my favourite changes is the development of online library catalogues. When I was a student in Manchester the public library was in the process of replacing card catalogues and paper ticket systems with computerisation and plastic cards, but this took a few years and computer catalogues remained something you had to access in the library for a long time after that.
Camden and Westminster have had their library catalogues accessible over the internet for several years now...

My Local Library
Advantages: Good facilities
Disadvantages: Mean staff
...There are quite a few reviews of libraries in general on here, and nobody can say that free books aren't a good thing, but I thought I would review my local library since I am not happy with them at the moment. Haha.
--Disclaimer--
Since it's in writers' corner, I'm trusting you'll take into the account that I'm simply writing a rant and I don't expect anyone to know where Lichfied is ;)
--------------------
Firstly, I love books. I usually like to buy them though because that means if I like them a lot, I can keep them to read again. Also, it takes me a while to read things so, adding this to the fact that I'm incredibly disorganised, I've racked up about £5 in fines on my library card over the past few years.
I usually get my books from charity shops. For one thing, they're usually only about 50p each, and for another, it...

Studio - Excellent Catalogue / Website
Advantages: Loads of gift ideas & cheaper than most shops
Disadvantages: Sometimes delivery can take a long time
...A family member told me about this catalogue just before Christmas so I thought I would take a look & I was very impressed witht he range of products they do ranging from little nic naks to complete bedroom furniture etc.
It was a ideal little catalogue fo me to go through just before Chrsitmas as it gave me loads of ideas for little presents that I could buy for only a few pounds & it had a excellent selection of Christmas cards & wrapping paper at a fraction of the cost of the high street.
The best thing about this site/catalogue is the prices, most items are a lot cheaper than you will find in shops like Argos etc, for example I have just purchased a chest of drawers from them, it cost £40, for a similar product in Argos was nearly £75, so I had a massive saving & Im also currently waiting for some curtains to arrive which on all...

studio cards and gifts catalogue
Advantages: plenty of choice, you get bargains.
Disadvantages: can take a while to send personalised items sometimes
...i've been getting studio cards and gifts catalogue for about 3 years now. It's a catalogue that sells all sorts of things. for example:-
cards
wrapping paper
stationery
Toys
household items
alcohol
Sweets
It's a well packed catalogue, which is colourful and delivered free to your door. About twice a year they send youa new catalogue, which is packed full. There are so many to choose from.
They are joined with ace catalogue, who sells exactly the same items as studio.
Prices are reasonable in the catalogue, and you get...

Make way for Noddy! (and his little library!)
Advantages: lovely little books
Disadvantages: none
...This is a great little set of hardback books which are ideal for little children who are just beginning to develop an interest in books and 'reading'.
There are six cute little books (they are only about 4 inches square) and they come in their own little box library which little children seem to love. If you put the books in the correct order the letters across the spine spelly out NODDY and you also see a picture of Noddy in his car.
As you will probably have realised by now all the books feature Noddy and his toy town friends. Noddy seems to have been around for ever, but at the moment he is enjoying popularity with little children on Milkshake which is the children's programming on Channel 5. My youngest daughter really loves watching Noddy and all his friends so this little boxed set was an ideal extra for her for Christmas...

Maisy goes to the library
Advantages: Colourful pictures, easy to read text and loveable characters!
Disadvantages: Soft back book so cover bends easily.
...- like on wheres wally books, and the reader spends too long looking at the pictures and not enough time reading the actual words. Which of course is the reason why we encourage our youngsters to read so much - is that we want them to become familiar with words and letters. Looking at pictures can often distract away from the purpose of reading to little ones but this book is very good as although there are pictures, the text is large to amplify thier presence to the reader.
Text:
Is evenly spread over 32 pages and is printed in black large type. Each sentence is short and large to keep the attention of the reader. The storyline is also very good : Maisy goes to the library for the first time and she discovers all the great things that libraries have to offer. She also learns that theres lots of activities to do there apart from reading...
