Lido De Jesolo

Advantages: Its safe, fun and very family friendly
Disadvantages: More expensive due to a weak pound currently .

...My family and I have visited Jesolo twice in the last 4 years. Here are our thoughts on Lido De Jesolo: It has been and in some respects rightly called the Blackpool of the Adriatic. I can see why people would say that. Its a family resort primarily and has lots of shops and local traders all plying for your euros. There however the similarity ends. Jesolo is wonderful. Its clean, vibrant, hospitable and family orientated. Without doubt the place to go with a young family if you want a bit on sun, sand and entertainment. I was shocked on our first night ot as the main road closed to vehicles in the evening. We just strolled along taking in the atmosphere, you still have to avoid the numerous cycles though. Lido Life

Advantages: Nice to cool down and chill out on a hot day
Disadvantages: No go zone in bad weather

...Tinside Lido is situated on the historic Plymouth Hoe in Plymouth, Devon. Built in 1935 this art deco Lido was fully restored in 2003, at the cost of £3.4 million, after some years of neglect had left the grade II listed building more of an eyesore than a landmark. It is an unheated, seawater (treated) swimming pool open to the public for just a few months in the summer season. When I was a youngster I often swam at this pool either with my family or under the supervision of Port Of Plymouth Swimming club and have many happy memories. After the refurbishment I swore I would never swim there again, as, in my opinion too much money was spent on a pool that would only be open for a few months of the year when we have a dire shortage of decent indoor swimming pools in Plymouth. It offers such features as the beer cellar with its own mini-brewery, restaurant and bistro, live music, open air ice-rink and attractions in the amusement park, shops full of souvenirs, as it is a tourist destination. Elbow Room??

Advantages: Ocean Views, Excellent Foods, Great Wine List, Good Service
Disadvantages: Mainly fish/seafood based so may not appeal to all diners. waiting area in the nightclub a little weird

Feeling Fit?

Advantages: local (to me), lots of facilities, no posers!!
Disadvantages: none that I can think of

...It's that time of year again where New Year is fast approaching and many New Year's resolutions will me made and broken!! Becoming healthier is the number one New Year's resolution. Need a bit of motivation to get healthy?, not sure what's available in your area? For those who intend starting the Year with this in mind, I would like to tell everyone about the facilities available at my local sports centre in Port Talbot. I have been a member of the Afan Lido for over a year. The main facilities that I use are the gym and swimming pool. The best thing about this sports centre is that you can be all shapes and sizes and as soon as you walk through the door you don't have people staring and sneering at you. There is no competition in the gym as to who is wearing the latest sports wear, it is not full of people taking steroids...

A Fun Day Out in Tenerife!

Advantages: Good fun, suitable for all

...At the Lido there are 7 main pools each in the shape of one of the Canary Islands. The pools are salt water and the water comes from the nearby sea. The Lido also has lots of sunbeds if you are planning to get a tan, and some expensive bars to buy food and drink! The pools vary in size but I only went in 2 of them. The water is quite salty as it is seawater and is also very cold when you first get in ? so cold I was reluctant to get in! The first pool I went in was the biggest and is meant to be shaped like Tenerife from above. This pool is the largest swimming pool I have ever seen and is truly massive! Inside the pool there were even little caves and islands. The islands you could actually go on and they were very interesting but the only way to get to them was to swim there! Bad accomodation & poor service.

Advantages: Private beach
Disadvantages: On a busy road, so lots of traffic noise all night

...This is definitely not a 3*, we've stayed in 3*s before and the accomodation and service we recd here was far below a 3*. The guest area has furniture which looks like it was bought from a pawn shop and it smells like the place wasnt cleaned or aired in years, definitely a stark contrast to the nice fresh breeze of Lido. The rooms have cracks in the walls which have been filled with plaster and the toilets have rusty shower fittings. The television makes you feel like you are back in the 70s as they are black and white. Also you have to watch out for the wardrobe linings as they fall our suddenly and tend to get you on the head or between the legs! On our second night (of 7) we used the airconditioning only to find out that it was leaking, when it brought it to the attention of the owner, a Mr. Guido, he started giving us an elaborate...

...I've just returned from a weeks break in Lido De Jesolo, a beach resort on the adriatic coast of Italy, just 30 miles from Venice. The resort is huge. The beach stretches for 15km's and is crowded with rows upon rows of umbrellas and sun loungers. A bit too regimented for me but certainly a sight to behold. The beach itself is clean and the sea is shallow until quite a way out, which makes it ideal for kids. In fact the whole resort is ideal for kids. There is a huge amount for them to do, from funfairs and arcades to an aquapark. Unfortunately, that means that the resort is packed with family's and young children. Not what you want when your just a couple looking for a bit of peace and quiet. Also the resort, which is purpose built and so lacks Italian atmosphere, seems to be a big favourite with the Germans. ...The sunshine state that is Florida. I have visited Florida 5 times in the last 2 years from 2 weeks vacation - 3 months. On everyones first visit to Florida they always seem to do Orlando and all the parks, which I agree is a must do. The parks are sensational and like nothing you will see anywhere else. However, one of my favourite places in Florida has to be Sarasota. About a 2 hour drive south of Orlando. Sarasota has exquisit beaches and breath taking scenery, a very different place from Orlando. Lido, Siesta Key and St Armands are some of the best places in Sarasota, offering pure white sand beaches and some pristine, high class shopping areas.
