...The Lighthouse family are a soul duo from up north who recorded their first single, "Lifted" in 1995. The duo consists of vocalist Tunde Baiyewu (Who I believe recently launched a solo career) and keyboard player Paul Tucker who formed in Newcastle. Their debut album was entitled "Ocean Drive" and was also released in 1995. It was a couple of years later that the duo released their second album "Postcards from Heaven." As suggested by the CD's title, Lighthouse Family "Greatest Hits" is a compilation which was released in 2002 of the Lighthouse Family's most memorable tracks. I would just like to point out that I'm almost 100% sure you'd recognise at least one track from this reasonably well known group. Lighthouse Family Fun

...TOTAL RE-WRITE The Lighthouse Family duo's new album 'Whatever Gets You Through the Day' should be in everyone's home as it is a wonderful new pop album. New to us but they have actually been around since 1995 which is when Paul Tucker left posters around Newcastle asking for a lead singer. Tunde Baiyewu who had just qualified with a degree in accounting answered the ad and the rest is history. Their first single Ocean Drive did enter the charts but the Newcastle lads didn't do all that well. It did so bad that it was withdrawn. Yet when Lighthouse Family re-released their single 'Lifted', it climbed to the top 5. I do not know how I would describe the style of their music. ...This album was relased back in the 2002 but still sounds as good it did then. For me this album offered a more melodic and upbeat sounding Lighthouse family. I dont think there is one song that I dont like on this album.The whole album is just truly enjoyabel to listen to. For me though you have to be in the mood to listen to lighthouse family,as I think you cant just listen to one track, as all there songs take you through a wide range of moods and feelings. My favourite song on the album has to be run though,I love the music used on this track,and even though there arent many lyrics/vocals I still think this song is catchy and just that little bit different for lighthouse family. ...tell you all of this because to understand the attraction of The Blue Lighthouse, you have to see it in context. In our terms the context was: two previous evenings dining in traditional pubs, one of which was great, and one which?well?wasn't. So: to the Lighthouse. The Blue Lighthouse is located on the High Street. It styles itself a Brasserie, and the sign on the door says food until 9.30, drinks until late. Inside the décor is modern, blonde wood, stylised murals of local landmarks. It is decidedly family-friendly (baby-changing facilities provided), child-friendly menus. Al fresco seating at rear is in a 'yard' rather than garden, but none-the-less appealing I suspect on a summer's day. On the evening we visited there were three parties with small children, all of whom were impeccably behaved?indeed one of whom delighted...

Sea sand and lighthouses

Disadvantages: lots of stairs...not for the fainthearted

It costs £4.40 for an adult's entrance fee, £2.80 for children and a family ticket is £11.50. ~~~~Other bits of information~~~~ The lighthouse is about 40 minutes from the centre of Newcastle and 40 minutes from Durham. Two holiday cottages are available for rent, and although we didn't see them, I understand they can be booked for short and longer stays. Lots of stairs up the lighthouse, and no lift, so obviously not wheelchair or pushchair friendly, although there is access to the ground floor. There is however cctv so people who can't see the tower are able to see the view from the top. ~~~~What I thought~~~~ The lighthouse lends itself to some interesting walks, and acts as a bit of a base for anyone interested in wildlife and the seaside in general. ...I have always enjoyed Rowan Coleman's books so I'm always pleased when I spot a new one of hers. I was especially pleased when I picked up The Accidental Family because I realised it is a sequel to one of her earlier books - The Accidental Mother. I had read this a while ago and really enjoyed it so it was interesting to see what happened to the characters afterwards. Having said that though, The Accidental Family can be read as a stand alone novel although it does have an added value if you read The Accidental Mother first. In the first book Sophie Mills suddenly finds herself looking after her best friend's two daughters after a fatal car accident. At the end of the book, the girls' long lost father has reappeared and Sophie has fallen in love with him. They all move to Cornwall and this second book follows what happens as they start...
