...Linate, which is now becoming overshadowed by the new hub at Malpensa is a typical tourist flight airport. Whilst it is just as close to the city centre, if not closer than Malpensa, it has the feel of being a tourist airport. There is a regular bus link which works out cheaper than getting a taxi into the city centre, and it is a fairly standard airport. There are all the usal things there, although when I was there the catering operations were not exactly anything to write home about. The place however is pretty clean, well air-conditioned, something that is useful when you flight gets delayed by six hours and the temperature is rising as are tempers. The baggage recalim is good, and it is easy to get around even if you don't speak Italian....

Milan "No Ashtray" Malpensa

Advantages: Clean, Loads of restaurants, comfy seats
Disadvantages: No where to smoke

...Imagine being tired, yet handcuffed to a running machine thats on full pelt, welcome to Milan Malpensa. The Airport that doesn\'t accommodate the needs of the smoker, (And the staff almost start laughing when you ask where the smoking area is!) brings to you the largest Duty free shop Ive ever seen in the EU, quite a few restaurants and cafe\'s and several bathrooms (Where the occasional smoker hangs out waiting to be handcuffed and pinned to the floor by the Italian Police) The airport is connected to Milan by the Milano-Varese motorway as well by a dedicated train called \"Malpensa Express\". It is also connected to Linate Airport by a scheduled bus service. The Milan airport system has a third international airport, Orio al Serio Airport, which serves low-cost and charter traffic. Malpensa handled over 21.7 million passengers...

A good getaway to the Alps

Advantages: Clean
Disadvantages: Far from Milan

...Malpensa is one of the 2 main airports to go to Milan. However, it is situated more than 30 miles away form the centre of Milan. Who should use this airport then? Well, if you are NOT going to Milan, and instead you wish to go to the Alps, Malpensa is closer to the mountains than Linate. If you wish to go to Milan, you can either do so by taxi, whihc will cost you roughly 30-35 quids, or by train, which is cheaper, around 4-5 pounds. Make sure you take one of the white taxis, the ones from Milan, and not the other taxis from cities around Milan, since the Milan taxis are obliged to charge you by the meter, while the others charge you a higher fee, normally 150,000 liras (about 50 pounds). If you are driving into Malpensa, do it slowly! After 11 Sep, there is a permanent police check, and the guys there do nto appreciate...

A Lot To Commend Malpenza

Advantages: Good food areas
Disadvantages: A long way out of the city

...Milan has 2 airports, Linate and Malpenza. I have recently flown into Malpenza which is about 45 kilometres from Milan on the North Western side. As such we are not exactly in Milan. I suppose having flown from Manchester the same could be said of my destination point. Manchester airport is not exactly in Milan either or Manchester for that matter. What Milan shares with many European airports is that it sits as part of an integrated transport system. The fact that it is outside the city does not matter as buses leave every 20 minutes for the city centre and the train station to Milan beautiful Stazione Centrale is below the airport. If you have to taxi then finding oe is easier than affording one. There are plenty about but at around £35-40 for the one way fare to Milan then who can blame them, you do not need to do that journey too...

Bad Thoughts

Advantages: Friendly staff, cleanish, selection of shops and restaurants

Malpensa is often slagged off by seasoned travellers, especially when compared to Linate (Milan’s other airport), the latter of which has more facilities, a better location and is generally preferred. Still, I haven’t been to Linate so I can’t comment. Milan has two terminals, and so puts it between Vienna and Manchester, two of the airports I’ve flown from since then. * Terminal 1* Opened in 1998 and able to handle around 25 million passengers each year this terminal has tons of parking spaces (we’re talking thousands, many of which are free) and a great, fast rail link to the city. It’s 8 minutes from Terminal 2, and regular shuttle busses run between them. This terminal is home to both international and domestic arrivals, all of which are at street level (most handy when you’re loaded up...

Not For Me

Advantages: good leg room, snacks service

...So, I am someone who likes to check for the best deals before buying things and the same goes for buying flights. Having used Easyjet before I have heard of Ryanair as have most people but I still hadn't flown with them yet. Easyjet are not as cheap as they used to be so I looked at Ryanair, I was booking my flight to Ireland and having checked out many airlines they definitely offered the best as my flight worked out as being somewhere around £25 which for a return to me is amazing. The website is very easy to use as you just click where you are starting from and where you are going to. I know that they don't always fly to the main airport in most towns e.g. Milan Orio al Serio is an hour away compared to Linate but in Dublin they used the main one. Living in Edinburgh Ryanair only flies there but Glasgow Prestwick has a lot...

Travel We arrived in Milan on a train from Geneva. If you are planning on taking a bit of a tour of Europe the trains are excellent ? we just turned up at the station bought our tickets and then sat on a nice comfy train watching the stunning Swiss scenery slowly blend into Italian countryside for four hours. Do keep your passport handy for the border checks. The train was very reasonably priced at about £35 each one way. It makes you wonder why trains in Britain are unable to offer this level of service. If you are flying directly into Milan for a mini break Easyjet fly to Linate airport (about 5 miles / 8km from city centre) for between about £10 and £50 depending on the time...

Have to say I'm biased

...I visited Milan for the first time too many years ago to mention and I loved it on sight. For some reason my second visit had to wait until last September when I left a dull grey South Coast town for the delights of this city of cities. We arrived at Linate, which is not the main airport, flying budget with Buzz but, in no time at all we were on a coach heading toward the city centre and our small '3 star (?!)' hotel. The hotel was not esay to find and we finally stopped a couple of rather intimidating looking policem to ask for directions. A couple of minutes and a lot of back slapping and smiling later we were shown the road we needed and we tumbled into the foyer of the hotel. What can I say, bad choice, but at least it was close to an underground station and the city centre. Straight out again and into the bustle of Italy...

Do You Really Want To GO - I Do

Disadvantages: Nothing so far!

...on the Saturday, which is the option I went for. “GO” are based at London Stanstead, and within the UK they fly from Belfast International, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle. And, off course, from here in Dublin in the Irish Republic. They aren’t simply UK based though, and fly to a wide range of Continental airports as well.
