...The Linksys WAG160N N300 is an ADSL2+ wireless modem router, meaning it has a a modem built in. It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available. It?s an ADSL2 router, which means it supports the newer ADSL standard, which could mean faster transfer speeds although this really depends on your line quality, distance from Exchange, service with ISP, etc. The router currently costs £74.99 from PC World but a bit less at £59.99 on their website. O Linksys, Linksys! wherefore art thou Linksys?

Advantages: Looks, price, reliablity, setup, functionality, ease of use

.... The set up for this literally took me 2 mins, most of that was finding the piece of paper that I wrote my ADSL username / password down on, so that I could enter this into the setup wizard. Routers can be configured much much more than this, with specific country settings, however the default settings on this router, sold in the UK are for the UK settings, so there is nothing else that you would need to configure initially. After completing the set up wizard, I could see that the 'Internet' LED on the router lit up ( showing that it tried logging in with the username / password that I supplied during set up, and it authenticated / logged in ) The set up wizard confirmed that setup had completed, and that it would open a browser to confirm that you had connectivity ( basically just opens up the Linksys website, if you see it then hey...

Advantages: Good Realiability and Future Proof.
Disadvantages: People Mis-understanding the Product.

...with any Operating System that can initiate a PPPoE comunication with it. So this means it will work with Windows, Mac, Linux and Unix or any other operating systems. I have mine working with my m0n0wall router and it is an excellent combination. But Linksys have gone one further and included a USB interface for people how do wish to use USB, this is nice to have but I would recommend you only use the Ethernet Interface because it is better. The biggest selling point is its ability to support up to ADSL2+ connections, so that includes normal ADSL and ADSL2. In the UK ADSL2 is only just being trialed but it will come to everybody and when it does if you have this you will be ready to take advantage of it. So maybe in a Year or two you will be enjoying the Internet at 25Mbps. So enought about what its supposed to do, does it do it well...

First of all Netgear's claim that it can operate at 270mb which is more than 2 times that of a standard home/office 10/100mb network and a good deal more than my old 54g (30mb+/-) router's speed, had to be tested. Secondly this was in draft N standard, meaning that it is not yet been made official or standard, so how would it perform in my own home? I just had to try it.......
