Linksys, links my systems just great.

Advantages: Cheap, Easy Install, Fast Connection, 4 ports
Disadvantages: Wired. Not always a disadvantage though.

...I decided to write this review today, after helping a friend of mine choose what type of router to go for. Having had only two routers in my lifetime, I'm not the biggest technicality whiz, but I know enough stuff to get me going. After my first router (A mentor, which by the way, you shouldn't buy) broke, I needed a new. I'd heard a lot of praise about Linksys routers. And the praise was true to it's word. The router packs the following statistics, which may mean more to some of you that others, but listed her for simplicities sake when you read reviews on it. Built in Modem. No need for both a router and a modem. ADSL2. You can connect up to 25 mb per second with this 4 ports. You can connect 4 PC's, Routers or other Ethernet devices to this. Wired. Means no wireless troubles and better security, but more wires. As...

Review of Linksys ADSL2 Gateway with 4-Port Switch AG241 - router

stable, reliable router

Advantages: bullet proof, future proof, idiot proof
Disadvantages: too new to be great value for money

...We bought one of these through work to handle our company 2mb ADSL connection. As with all linksys units this is well made and behaves nicely. the 4 port switch is as fast as it's supposed to be. The setup is as hard as you want to make it. there are lots and lots of screens that can be used to tune your internet experience down to fine details, it contains URL blocking, IP, MAC and bad word filtering and you can set it to only allow specific computers to access the net - as if the unit wants to be a proxy server when it grows up. We selected this router specifically because we were looking long term at getting an SDsl connection when it became available and this router is one of very few which will handle that technology (sdsl has the same incoming and out going available bandwidth, rather than adsl which has more incoming...

Linksys's Lightning fast wireless router

Advantages: Fast speeds, Reliable, Stylish
Disadvantages: I had wireless problems, Gets a bit warm, no restart router option in config

...The Linksys WAG160N N300 is an ADSL2+ wireless modem router, meaning it has a a modem built in. It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available. It?s an ADSL2 router, which means it supports the newer ADSL standard, which could mean faster transfer speeds although this really depends on your line quality, distance from Exchange, service with ISP, etc. The router currently costs £74.99 from PC World but a bit less at £59.99 on their website. I bought mine about 8 months ago on Ebuyer for around £55. IN THE BOX You receive two ADSL filter s, RJ11 cable, user manual, manual and software CD, power adapter and lastly, the router itself. THE ROUTER ITSELF One thing I quite like about the router is that it looks quite...

Review of Linksys Wireless-N ADSL2+ Gateway WAG160N - wireless router

Linksys Router

Advantages: Can hook up a few computers to it,can have a password
Disadvantages: slow transfer of big files between computers

...The last review was very good but I thought I would give one more about the product itself. After purchasing a laptop it became apparent that I wouldnt want to run a cable from my broadband box to my laptop in order to use the internet especially when this is already plugged into my PC. The next logical step? By a wireless router and i'm assuming that if your are reading this then you will either be in this position or just cant be bothered with having cables all around your house anymore. As the title says this is a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless Access Point Router with 4-Port Switch. Fore this router to work you need to make sure that your broadband has an ETHERNET port otherwise you will need to find another router as you plug your broadband into this router via an ethernet cable in order for it to be able to send out the signal...

4 port router - low priced but reliable

Advantages: Reliable, good support
Disadvantages: bigger than other similar routers from competitors

...This unit replaced an awful Belkin router which was a simlar specification and price. This router was so much better, i.e. it worked, The installation was straightforward enough, and the router was up and running with 2 pc's connected without a problem. Compared to the Belkin unit it is a no frills product, the colour is OK, but whereas the Belkin looked sleek, thie linksys s more function over form. I wasn;t really bothered though, it was going to be sat next to the modem out of sight. The ethernet sockets are round the back of the unit, and the system LED's are on the front. Also the unit is stable enough not to be lifted when multiple wires are plugged into it. This can be a problem with very small units which are so light the cables own tension can lift them off the floor/desk where you placed them. Probably the most you...

Great Wireless Router...Eventually

Advantages: Fast, looks great, cheap
Disadvantages: Not easy to install!

...data encryption. Features: ADSL2+ Modem, Internet-sharing Router, 4-Port Switch and Wireless-G Access Point in one box High-speed ADSL2+ Modem gives you a fast, "Always On" connection to the Internet Connect your home PCs and other wireless devices to the Gateway and the Internet using the built-in Wireless-G Access Point, or connect directly with the 4-port Ethernet Switch So thats the facts behind the router now what did I think of it? I bought this for about £35 off Amazon and was impressed when i took it out the box to see how good it looked. So now came the interesting bit... The Installation!! Looks easy to do - you are provided with a CD-rom to install and a little brochure with step by step instructions how to apparantly install it. So as a young guy who has a good understanding of computers and technology i...

Review of Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway WAG200G - wireless router

A great first Router with future support of ADSL2+

Advantages: Easy setup, good security, lots of features, great price
Disadvantages: not mimo compatible

...I was actually looking to buy a wired router for my home network, but when i came across this wireless one, which was only £4 more than an equivalent wired one, i couldn't resist, and i'm glad i didn't. It has all the credentials of being a great router. WPA 2 encryption (the strongest you can currently get to stop people hacking into your wireless network). It has an inbuilt ADSL modem capable of speeds up to 24Mbps when the new ADSL2+ protocol is rolled out (which has already begun in London and other major cities) 4 port 10/100 network switch, so you can connect 4 computers to it, and they can all share files and printers like in a normal network. It has a standardised pop-out connection for adding an external high-gain antennae. It looks great and takes up very little room. I has a SPI (Stateful Packet...

Review of Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway WAG354G - wireless router

Belkin ADSL2+ High-Speed Mode Wireless-G Router

Advantages: Very stable, good speed
Disadvantages: Not a pretty boy, yet to get remote admin working

...Fax machines Mains transformers Microwave ovens Large metallic objects, I.E. Stainless steel countertops, water tanks in the loft PC's Printers Wireless phones operating in the 2.4GHz spectrum Conclusion For most home user applications you could do a lot worse than the Belkin. It is stable, fairly fast, easy to configure and the majority of its features work from the box. In the small business environment I currently have one running in it remains to be seen if it will continue to behave sanely or whether it will have to be sectioned like its predecessors. UPDATE After 6 months of use in a small business environment (6 wireless clients, 2 wired) the router finally expired. Having used different wireless routers from a variety of manufactures I have since persuaded my client (who was adamant that he wanted a wireless...

D-Link DSL-504 ADSL Router 4 Port

Advantages: Pick up a bargain ?
Disadvantages: Only 4 ethernet ports ?

...Another review from me for a discontinued item, but may be useful if you're loking to pick up a bargain item on ebay... The D-Link DSL-504 ADSL Router has a built-in ADSL modem - plugs directly into your ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)-enabled phone line, and with its 4 port 10/100Mbps ethernet switch, allows connections to lots of things (check out my other reviews for what it's connected to...). The DCHP server allows automatic allocation of IP addresses to all your network gubbins too - although I've set the IP's for my wireless accesspoint & print server to allow easier access to their brower based interfaces. The DSL-504 has a browser admin interface too for easy installation and setup, just type in the IP address (the default 192.168.0.1, as with most routers, but if it's changed you can always use the command line...

Zyxel ADSL2+ Wireless Router

Advantages: Easy Install, 4-Port & Wireless, Reliable
Disadvantages: -

...If you are looking for a well priced router with all the great features of a more pricey Linksys or Netgear, the Zyxel 660HW-61 is definitely for you. Firstly, whats in the box : You get the Router with built in 4-port Ethernet Hub and wireless antenna in sleek black. You also get a telephone cable, Power Adapter and an Ethernet Cable for initial setup/wired use. The instruction manual is clear and concise and the included CD is not really neccessary because there are no drivers to install, and all updates can be easily found on Zyxel's website. Installation is quite easy, simply follow the manual, the basic steps are : Connect the router to the power and Phone line, connect it to a PC with an Ethernet port, and login via the web browser. After this it is a simple matter of putting in your ADSL details and settig up your desired...
