WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point
Advantages: Good features, repeater and bridging modes
Disadvantages: Minor installation problem
...Here's the story. I have an existing wireless network. The access point is in the office in the loft. I have a laptop I wander around with (as you do) and there is a PC on the ground floor. On a good day with a strong wind, the downstairs PC gets a weak to medium connection. All too often though it is intermittent or fails completely. Web browsing is quirky and the whole experience is less than satisfactory. The bottom line is that despite being well within the theoretical range for wireless devices, there are just too many walls, floors and sundry other obstacles getting in the way.
There are several things you can do do improve the signal but most are more suited to open spaces. One option that would help in this situation is to use a pair of access points in repeater mode. After a quick look around, Netgear's WG602 looked like...

generally a good access point
Advantages: easy to set up, good range.
Disadvantages: a bit sensitive
...I bought one of these access points for work because of the two aerial functionality. These aerials work in one of two ways, either diversity where they both send and recieve and can tell which aerial has the best signal to you and uses that, and simplex where one aerial sends and one receives and one sends and you have to have a good signal on both for the system to work.
the diversity system makes it more flexible and we have a larger aerial on an extension on one of the RP TNC aerial connectors, this covers our manufacturing area, and one standard aerial which covers our office space. this works well and extends the range and thus the value for money of this unit.
the advantage however using the aerials simplex is that in situations like an office with a good signal to both aerials one sending and one receiving cuts down...

The Wonder of Wireless
Advantages: allows wireless access to existing networks
Disadvantages: Must be careful to turn on the security
...the best of both worlds.
This WAP arrived as a Christmas present, so I'm not sure how much it cost. It was simple to set up, just plug into a free port on the router, using a standard network patch lead, then run the setup disk that was provided on one of the PCs attached to the router.
I would say that you would need to understand the basics of networking in order to set this unit up properly, not least of all, remembering to change the default access point name and admin password, which can be looked up on Linksys's website. mine was altered to something that could never be guessed and I also created a hexidecimal network key that needs to be entered on any device that I wish to attach to the network.
So often wireless neetworks are left unsecured. If I use my work laptop on my car, I often find wireless networks and usually I...

Linksys's Lightning fast wireless router
Advantages: Fast speeds, Reliable, Stylish
Disadvantages: I had wireless problems, Gets a bit warm, no restart router option in config
...The Linksys WAG160N N300 is an ADSL2+ wireless modem router, meaning it has a a modem built in. It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available. It?s an ADSL2 router, which means it supports the newer ADSL standard, which could mean faster transfer speeds although this really depends on your line quality, distance from Exchange, service with ISP, etc. The router currently costs £74.99 from PC World but a bit less at £59.99 on their website. I bought mine about 8 months ago on Ebuyer for around £55.
IN THE BOX
You receive two ADSL filter
s, RJ11 cable, user manual, manual and software CD, power adapter and lastly, the router itself.
THE ROUTER ITSELF
One thing I quite like about the router is that it looks quite...

Linksys Router
Advantages: Can hook up a few computers to it,can have a password
Disadvantages: slow transfer of big files between computers
...The last review was very good but I thought I would give one more about the product itself.
After purchasing a laptop it became apparent that I wouldnt want to run a cable from my broadband box to my laptop in order to use the internet especially when this is already plugged into my PC. The next logical step? By a wireless router and i'm assuming that if your are reading this then you will either be in this position or just cant be bothered with having cables all around your house anymore.
As the title says this is a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless Access Point Router with 4-Port Switch. Fore this router to work you need to make sure that your broadband has an ETHERNET port otherwise you will need to find another router as you plug your broadband into this router via an ethernet cable in order for it to be able to send out the signal...

My Sitecom 11M WL-013 - Wireless Access Point
Advantages: Very small - Good connection and signal - doesn't overheat - does the job
Disadvantages: Not sure how well it works with PCI wireless PC card
...My experience of this product is that it works quite well the reason why it doesn't go from good to excellent will be explained bellow.
I have 2 PC's and 1 laptop I wanted the main PC to be hard-wired as that one is right next to the access hub and modem so no need to be wireless and anyway the main machine should always be hard-wired as no wireless can beat that.
Then I have my son's laptop a Dell Inspiron 2200 which has already a wireless network card, and this machine runs perfect via the wireless access point anywhere in the house, and my house is a 3 storey house so plenty of range.
However I did install a wireless PCI network card on the PC on 3rd level of the house and this connection was intermittent which meant going back to hard-wire there, now I cannot say for sure if this was a card problem or the access point problem or even...

The WAP is dead, long live the WAP
Advantages: Fast, easy to configure, reasonable price for a Wireless Access Point
Disadvantages: slight snag in set up. Easily resolved
...My dearly beloved Linksys WAP11b passed on this week. At the request of the family there were no flowers but a small celebration was held to remember a long and hard working life and the opportunity to get a new one.
Including VAT and delivery, for £48.15 , Novatech.co.uk sent me one of these little charmers.
Let me explain my home setup:
The ADSL line starts at my phone line and passes through a Linksys ADSL ethernet modem. This is connected to a seperate router which has four ports in it.
Two of those ports are used by the CAT5 structured cable network, connecting the two desktop computers to each other and the internet. one of the ports is spare and the other hosts the Wireless Access Point, or WAP. Doing this separately was deliberate, the failure of a single component will not prevent...

3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point
Advantages: Bargain bundle with wireless card for my laptop
Disadvantages: Just an access point, no modem/hub/etc
...I use the 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point in my home wireless network, and bought it as part of a bundle with a laptop wireless card - check my other reviews to see if I've got round to reviewing that too...
It used the IEEE 802.11g standard (data transfer speeds of up to 54Mbps), plus is backwards compatible with IEEE 802.11b (upto 11Mbps) so works with older equipment (such as a slightly outdated laptop from a previous employer) with no problems.
The included CD installed all the necessary drivers very quickly and also contains all the manuals in PDF format. Once the drivers were installed, the configuration wizard runs in a standard web browser. This involves configuring IP addresses, encryption settings, DHCP settings and other techy bits and bobs. This was pretty straightforward, although a basic knowledge...

Freedom of Wireless
Advantages: Fast, Easy Setup
Disadvantages: Technology beginning to become outdated
...Belkin currently lead the market in network devices, both wired and wireless and when I came to introducing a wireless network in to my home, I turned straight to Belkin as I was sure they'd offer me the best performance - I haven't been disappointed.
**Features**
The Belkin 802.11g Access Point can be configured as a Wireless Range Extender. This allows you to use your existing network featuring a Belkin Wireless Access Point and extend the range of your network. This is ideal for large buildings or areas where coverage breaks up.
Alone, the Belkin 802.11g Access Point boasts a range of up to 300 feet radius indoors, and 1,500 feet radius outdoors. This is obviously with good conditions, so when buying you should take in to account walls and any interference such as cordless telephones and similar devices.

A good-for-home one
Advantages: Linksys/Cisco reliability
Disadvantages: There is nothing that bugs me on this AP
...One charachteristic of Linksys products are the "blue black" design that they adopt to many of its network products. Linksys WAP11 is a well-constructed access point. Its resistant, made in high quality plastic - does not have the appearance of fragile thing - as many of network products from another brands. Despite of all, at least here in my house, it works very well for our network - two wireless PC's and a N95 phone. It haves a good range, despite being installed in a unfavourable location.
Another good characteristic of WAP11 is also the stability of signal, as well as the reduced loose of download/upload tax due to distance. It's shipped with a setup cd, that turn the setup task easier to beginners.
In other words: robust, simple, easier and good for small SoHo networks....
