...Just when you thought I’d gone soft, writing about interesting things like travel, here’s another one of my computer hardware jobs to bring you back to earth. Unlike ‘Two Sheds Jackson’, who was only thinking of getting two sheds, I’ve actually got three PCs, all of which are networked, two by being hard-wired to a broadband router and the third on the far end of a ‘wi-fi’ link down in the stygian depths of my house, or the dining room as it’s sometimes known. My existing networking kit, also supplied by Linksys took care of all the shared access to the Telewest broadband internet service and any file and printer sharing that I may have set up between my PC, thus the main hub of this kit used to go under the lengthy title of ‘combined broadband router/switch/wireless access point’. Advantages: Small, portable, easy-to-use, easy-to-setup and adaptable.

...I am a student who recieved a laptop for Christmas and wanted a way to surf the internet and play games etc. through my cable internet connection from the main computer in my house. I bought this little beauty and a wireless PCI card for my laptop; both Linksys. The Price: The price has come done considerably since I bought it just before the summer last year (2005) and it's even better now for what you get. The Specs: The router sports 2 antenna for your wireless needs and the wireless signal reaches far beyond my garden fence (10m away from house). I played Wolfenstein in my garden happily without any lag or connection loss - this was through one wall and a tent. ...I bought the Linksys Wireless-B Media Adapter to allow me to play digital music and pictures stored on my computer to my TV/Stereo in the living room, without running cables through the house. The WMA11B box contains a setup CD; an AC adapter; Ethernet, RCA, and S-Video cables, and a remote control (including batteries), plus, of course, the WMA11B itself, whose vertical profile and compact size (50mm wide x 152mm deep x 177mm tall) make it easy to tuck into a small space. A set of LEDs on its front show power, network connectivity and activity. The WMA11B can connect to your network either by 802.11b WiFi - 11mbps rather the 54mbps .11g standard - or by standard 10/100 ethernet cabling. The product most likely based on features and price was the Linksys WAG54G.Therefore this review has turned out to be more of a comparison of the two than just on this one product and a lot of the information provided very similar to that in the previous review. I should also point out this review is fairly technical, given the chance of 2 reviews it would be nice to write another for the slightly less technically proficient but alas that is not an option. Now just in case you don't know Linksys are now owned by CISCO - sort of one of them names you know you can trust as most of the Internet is run off there kit. ...they had available. I saw a couple of NetGears, of which there are really very mixed reviews on their equipment. If you get a 'good' one, then it will serve you well, as mine previously did. Others - people have complete nightmares with. Being the sort of person I am, I fancied a change. I then came across the Linksys WAG200G. Looking at the specifications on the box, I could see all my basic requirements were covered. ADSL modem, with 4 port switch, wireless to G standards ( 54mbps ). I hand over the debit card.... deals done. I got home, and started to unpack my new purchase, even though I obviously saw what it looked like at the store, and on the box, I was quite surprised when I started to remove the contents from the box. ...Maybe this isn't the best time to be writing this review. As of now, I'm currently waiting for my WAG354G that I sent back to Linksys with a fault... 3 months ago. Yes, it had taken 3 months for them to collect my old modem, and send me a replacement. I'll stress that again. 3 months. Now if you want to read about all the tech specs and stuff like that, take a look at the other excellent reviews, this will be just a short (EDIT: long, sorry!) opinion of the product really, just in case you're about to take the plunge into buying one. I'm really not that great with computers, and networking confuses me, so if you're a non-techhead like me, please read on.
