Wireless Joy
Review of Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster WRT54GS - wireless router by Geckoman

Advantages: Linux Based Firmware: Easy for thirdparties to add new features
Disadvantages: There are much better looking routers out there.

...The Linksys WRT54GS in my honourable opinion is a great piece of kit. First of all its a product of Cisco Systems, which to me instantly suggests "decent box" as Cisco is one of (if not THE) biggest names in networking. And second, after running this box as the core of my network for almost 12 months now, Ive found it to be a reliable and more secure than some of the previous routers I have owned. I must admit there are much better looking routers which much the same capabilites on the market but looks arent everything. I bought this so I could experiment with Wireless as I hadnt really experienced that type of networking before. A downfall of this product for me was the lack of guidance provided by Linksys in the way of instructions on how to securely setup your wireless connection. Although I found a plethora of information... Read review

Very smart router ....
Review of Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster WRT54GS - wireless router by lindsayjayne

Advantages: Easy to install and configure
Disadvantages: Very few 'instructions' on security

...When it came to installing a router I didn't have a clue what I was doing! It was a pure impulse purchase, and I was worried when I got home that I might have trouble setting it up. The cd that came with the router made it extremely easy to figure out, though it would have been nice to have a small manual too (these can be downloaded from Linksys site). When I bought my WRT54GS router for £49.99, I was fortunate to get a free Linksys usb network adapter (worth £39.99). My pc came with a network card and aerial already installed, so I was intending to save the usb adapter for my old pc and have that wireless too. Using the cd that came with the router, I had it set up within half an hour. The only problem was that my signal kept coming and going - even though the router was only two feet away from the aerial. Out of curiousity I took... Read review

Review of NETGEAR WGT624 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router - wireless router by StopVonage

Advantages: bulletproof, but not for idiots
Disadvantages: old firmware sometimes fails to renew IP lease

...If you're shopping on a budget you're going to get crap. That's life. Own up to it. One buys netgear for SOLID RELIABILITY and power user features. Unfortunately the early firmwares for this particular model were a little weak for cable modem users (me), but alright for DSL users (me too). The new firmware solves the issue of mysteriously disappearing IP leases (which used to require a router reset every three days once the issue manifested) The lastest firmware contains many DHCP fixes, adds upnp, and other stuff that doesn't concern me. I would like to see netgear go opensource on firmware as did Cisco's linksys. The sveasoft firmware for the Cisco Linksys WRT54GS2+ rocks! (even though sveasoft continues to violate the GPL) A (turbo) / G (turbo) / B coverage is awesome. Even at the fringes of range (in a 6000 sq ft house... Read review

Linksys - Reliable, Speedy but BAD Installation
Review of Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster WRT54GS - wireless router by burns2007

Advantages: Reliable, Speed, Features
Disadvantages: Installation

...Introduction ************* The linksys router is built to allow a wireless internet connection within three hundred meters by connecting to an internet connection from another computer as well as offering multiple security abilities. Not only is it meant to be able to send a wireless signal but allow for other computers near by connecting to the router through Ethernet cables. I had this wireless router bought me for Christmas by a family member because I wanted to be able to go on the internet no matter where I was at home without the trouble and hassle of cables being every where therefore I was really happy when I got it until I came across a few problems. When going to install the router one of my main concerns about using a wireless router was that it would be emitting microwaves which is a scary idea but since I have been using... Read review

Linksys extender
Review of Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G by coopsta133

Advantages: Easy to use, good extension
Disadvantages: Website hard to find help on

...This is a Lynksys Wireless-G range extender. It is for a network, whether home or office, that needs more reach on it that save the hassel of buying more routers. This Range extender from Linksys is a very useful piece of kit. Was very easy to set up (once I typed the correct MAC address into my gateway) and provides the range I need to go over about 30 metres and through several big thick brick walls. I was having trouble with just my router so i turned to the internet and this is what i found. I combined it with a new antenna on my PC and my signal is now 5 bars! Much better than a half of one! The Wireless-G Range Expander is compatible with the Linksys WAP54G Access Point, and both the WRT54G and WRT54GS Wireless Routers. It works with both Wireless-G and Wireless-B clients so you'll get the benefits of increased coverage, even... Read review

Fantastic wireless router
Review of Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Gateway with SpeedBooster WAG54GS - wireless router by piloteer81

Advantages: Doddle to setup, fast and very good signal
Disadvantages: A Little jargonated!

...that with the old linksys router, it simply got a poor signal at best although this was adequate for browsing. With this router, the signal is much better so I'd highly recommend going for the "speedbooster" version over the standard one, especially as they are only a few pounds difference just to be on the safe side. ADSL2 is a bit of a gimmick as we haven't even topped 20mbits on widely available broadband connections really, so most routers are capable of handling todays connections. A good boon for the future though and I doubt you'd need another router! I won't go into details such as QoS, security etc as this info can be found elsewhere, but it has it all, except bandwidth throttling which only Vigor routers appear to have anyway and they are three times the price for not a lot of gain. All in all the best sub £100 router I've used and worth... Read review

LINKSYS WAG54GS WITH SPEEDBOOSTER
Review of Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Gateway with SpeedBooster WAG54GS - wireless router by JamesKendall456

Advantages: Very quick and can handle a lot.
Disadvantages: NONE.

...This is a very good wireless router. I have set up two networks now using this. The software is very easy to use and requires minimal effort. The cd guides you through step by step checking your connection and asking you only relevant details that you can acquire from your internet service provider. It can handle a lot of data transfer and can accept numerous computer connections at once. It accepts many types of security and is very reliable. It never cuts out and it broadcasts a signal a long way into my garden and field. Highly recommended, easy to use, doesn't get too hot, isn't unsightly. Very good router. Never overloads!!!!! Buy it definately. You will never go back to cables again...trust me! Linksys are also very helpful with a one 2 one chat facility online to get help with your queries!!!!!!! Along with this I have... Read review

Top quality wireless solution
Review of Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter WPC54GS with SpeedBooster by afro_geoffro

Advantages: Easy to Install, useful driver software, seems fast
Disadvantages: Slightly bulky

...My housemate bought a Linksys wireless G router for our broadband, so after looking around for a while I decided to purchase this card. I have not been disappointed. The installation is very easy, however it is important to follow the guidelines in the package and install the software before the hardware. This makes life so much easier, as I was to discover the hard way. The driver/connectivity software that comes with the card installs painlessly if you follow the instructions and do it first!!! The software provides a 'console' type interface with the card, and allows you to connect to most wireless networks without any futher action. If the wireless access point is security-enabled (which they all should be!), there is a step-by-step 'wizard' to help you connect to it. It will ask you the security details, and then it does all... Linksys WPC54G Notebook Adapter Review
Review of Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter WPC54G by sunny_boy

Advantages: Easy to install, use and configure.
Disadvantages: Gets hot after a while of constant use.

...When I recieved my laptop and bought my Linksys WRT54G Wireless Broadband Router, I needed to add wireless functionality to my laptop - that unfortunately wasn't powered by the Intel Centrino technology that has now been introduced. Seeing as I bought a Linksys router, I went ahead and bought a Linksys wireless adapter as well. The Packaging - The product is neatly packaged and very well protected in an anti-static pouch and is snuggled in it's plastic tray. All the documentation is packaged neatly and diagramatical setup instructions are printed on the back of the box. I found this quite handy when I wasn't bothered to read the instruction booklet. The Installation - The installation is quick and simple and the software installation CD provided was very easy to understand and install. It used diagrams as well as text to decribe how... So much better than the old WAG54G
Review of Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Gateway with SpeedBooster WAG54GS - wireless router by georgio8

Advantages: Good Wifi coverage, easy configuration, good config interface
Disadvantages: Possible problem with configuring using Safari.

...I don't know why Linksys keep re-using their model names/numbers so confusingly. This is completely defferent from the 2-year old WAG54G router/modem that we bought it to replace. Given the very poor reliability and weak wifi signal that we had experienced with the old one, we had misgivings about buying Linksys again, but this had the right specification (including ADSL2+) and it was on special offer at PC world for 40 UKP (sadly no longer). We have been quite amazed with the performance of the new model. Over two weeks it has not failed or needed re-starting. Both wireless and wired bandwidth seem very good. But the best thing is that the wireless signal coverage in our house has been transformed. I can finally use the internet from my laptop in any room of the house, whereas with the old WAG54G I had to sit in specific positions... Read review
