Cointreau liqueur of the Angels

Advantages: Sublime taste and very strong
Disadvantages: VERY STRONG

...Cointreau, probably the most palatable and hard-hitting liqueur on the face of the planet. It is the most divine tasting drink I have personally ever tasted. To describe the taste I would say that it is a liquid version of a Terry’s chocolate orange, only far nicer. History: Cointreau was invented in 1849 by two French brothers, Adolphe Cointreau and Edouard-Jean Cointreau, in the Angers region of (yes you guessed it) France. They made this sublime liqueur from the peelings of various oranges from the farthest corners of the globe. Jamaican orange’s being the main ingredient, but the use of oranges from other parts of the world such as various regions in Spain and Brazil is what gives Cointreau It’s unique flavour. If you read the label then it does tell you that the recipe (which is a well guarded secret...

A Luscious Liqueur

Advantages: Tastes gorgeous!
Disadvantages: Can't drink too much of it!

...Hello! It was 9.30pm last night and I?d been home from work for an hour, I sat at the PC with one of the most gorgeous drinks I?ve every had?. Kahlua. What is Kahlua? Kahlua is produced in Mexico. It?s a rich, dark liqueur, made from the finest Mexican coffee, fine cane spirits and a hint of vanilla. It was produced before WWII but not introduced to America until 1962. Kahlua is a coffee liqueur. It is a dark brown colour and it doesn?t smell too much of coffee which is good, I don?t like coffee, surprisingly! Kahlua has a brief bitter note followed by a very sweet flavour, almost chocolate like. I asked my other half to tell me what he thought it smelt like and he said it was like Christmas chocolates when you have a tin of Quality Street and only the rubbish ones are left! The drink itself is 26.5% Vol. Not too...

Delicious, Rich, Liqueur

Advantages: Delcious, gets you drunk easily
Disadvantages: Calorific, gets you drunk easily!

...on Baileys. That was my main problem with the drink, - my next main problem is it's calorific content, which, although I'm not 100% sure of the exact figure, I know is a lot, due to the cream and (no doubt) great amount of sugar! The alcoholic volume of the drink is in the region of 17%, which, given the amount you are likely to drink, is not a great deal. The best thing about Baileys as well as it's taste and everything else I have mentioned about it, is the fact that you can buy it in every pub or bar you go to! On average (or where I drink), you are able to get a 50ml measure of Baileys for about £2.50, which is fairly reasonable. It is available in all pubs, because it is now seen as a standard Spirit or Liqueur. Overall, I would recommend Baileys to anyone that likes rich, milky drinks, that's if you haven't tried it already...

Liqueur? No thanks, mate, pint of Stella please...

Advantages: delicious
Disadvantages: a bit girly

...who do, and should you ever venture there, you will find them sipping away to their heart?s content on a whole variety of unmanly tipples. Dooley?s Toffee Liqueur would be one of those drinks. You see, there is an unspoken edict among the masculine drinking populace that states the alcohol should under no circumstances taste nice. If it doesn?t make the bile rise in your throat at the vaguest whiff, then it?s clearly something for the girls. Dooley?s, unfortunately, does taste nice. Really very nice indeed. Pretty much like toffee-juice, in fact, if you can imagine such a thing. Okay, it?s only 20% ABV, but that at least raises it above the feeble VKs and their ilk. If you like, it is practically standing at the boundaries of proper-drinkdom, hammering its little toffee-fists on the window and getting them all smeary. It wants to be...

Review of Dooley's Origilal Toffee Liqueur

Oh..liqueur..what flavour..melon?! Melon Liqueur?!

Advantages: Gorgeous refreshing drink, well priced, goes well with a large variety of mixers
Disadvantages: Maybe a little bit too sweet

...Okay, so this unusual flavour of liqueur was developed by Suntary in around the 1970's in the USA, due to its success in the 1980's it was launched into Australia and Europe. I first tried this in a small little Italian Bar, where the barman took around a 70cl textured bottle, with a vibrant green liquid inside. I asked what cocktail he was mixing and he replied "Love Junk" and as barmans do, told me a story about the origin of this cocktail and as it turns out it won the 1991 Sydney Cocktail Campionship 1st Prize. The Love Junk turned out to be Midori, Peach Schnapps and apple juice, it was beautiful. I asked if the green liquid was flavoured lime or something similar and he said no..melon. I couldn't actually imagine the taste so naturally I had to have a try. Firstly I was to try Midori and Orange juice. Now, this is one...

Review of Midori Melon Liqueur

thorntons toffee liqueur

Advantages: loooovery
Disadvantages: only a hint of toffee taste

...Following a really BAD day at work I decided to stop at the supermarket and get a drink, so that I could chill. (Not that im advocating drinking to get rid of problems). While there I was hovering around the wines but saw this Thornton?s liqueur, normally I have to leave the liqueurs as they often contain coffee and I hate the taste of coffee. However a toffee liqueur sounded loooverly!!!! The drink comes in a swanky box, all natural chocolaty colours and like most Thornton?s products it entices and invites you to purchase this, by making it look irresistible. The actual drink is a mix of smooth cream, Scotch whisky and the unique Thorntons toffee sauce!! The drink is light beige to look at and is quite thick in consistency. The taste is light and creamy with a slight hint of toffee. As there was only a hint of the toffee it didn...

Review of Everything that starts with T ...

Fancy a Quickie?

Advantages: Strong coffee flavour
Disadvantages: A litle too bitter

...Is there any better combination than coffee and alcohol? Well, yes, there is. But I haven't got time to list them all here. There are many coffee-based liqueurs on the market, and everyone has their own favourite. Personally, I don't think much beats the flavour of Tia Maria, but giving it a good run for its money, at least in the popularity stakes, is Kahlua. Kahlua is apparently made from the finest hand picked Mexican coffee beans. These are gently roasted and then fused with a selection of rums and the ubiquitous secret ingredients - or so they say @ http://www.kahlua.com Incidentally, I heard George Dubbya's library burned down. Both books were completely destroyed He hadn't even finished colouring in the second one. Kahlua comes in a nicely-shaped bottle with one of the most interesting labels you'll ever see...

Review of Kahlua Liqueur

This one's for the girls!

Advantages: Smooth coffee flavour - cocktail possibilities are endless
Disadvantages: You will gain at least 30 pounds drinking this!

...I am not a big drinker. I am a mother and therefore rarely have time to nurse a hangover from under the duvet while I watch the Hollyoaks omnibus on a Sunday so I don't usually bother. Having said that, I have two weaknesses - the first is Tequila which for safety reasons I should not be allowed within 20 feet of and the other is Kahlua for which I fell hard several years ago on a trip home to Canada. >>>The History of Kahlua<<< Kahlua, well know in the Americas and growing in recognition in the UK, is a popular Mexican liqueur produced by Allied Domecq since before the second World War. In 2005, it was acquired by Pernod Richard and has since become the second largest liqueur brand throughout the world. >>>Awaken your five senses - well, three of them anyway unless you count hearing it call your name<<< Pure sunshine in a bottle...

Review of Kahlua Liqueur

For decadent pancakes

Advantages: Tastes lovely
Disadvantages: A bit expensive

...I have recently posted an opinion about Grand Marnier which opened with the statement that I always used to be a Cointreau fan so I thought I had better do my opinion on Cointreau too! Cointreau is the first liqueur I ever tried and liked way back in the mists of time – well I am nearly 47 so I have been enjoying a tipple for many years! I tried Drambuie, which is my mom’s favourite and thought that it was like drinking perfume – ugh! Then I tried Tia Maria but the coffee taste was far too strong for me. So then I tried Cointreau and loved it! By the way I would just like to say this trial of liqueurs didn’t all take place on the same day, I should think mixing those three would make anyone sick! Cointreau is a colourless liquid, and is somewhat sweeter than Grand Marnier, which tends to have a more...
