Tell me the truth, Nicole Richie.

Advantages: Hollywood insight, It girl memoirs, unique, drug experiences are interesting
Disadvantages: drugs, may seem shallow to some people

... Tell me the truth, Nicole Richie [A review of her novel "The truth about diamonds"] What is it? "The truth about diamonds" is a novel by celebrity Nicole Richie. This book tells a bit of her life, but written from an interesting perspective. Nicole Richie writes as the best friend of a girl named Chloe. Chloe goes through similar events to what Nicole Richie has gone through in her real life - being adopted, taking drugs, becoming famous and making vicious friends. Thus Nicole Richie avoids ridiculing herself, hurting the friends she described in the novel and she also does very well at oberserving her own behaviour in the past and projecting it into Chloe. Who is Nicole Richie? Nicole Richie is singer Lionel Rcihie's adopted daughter. She used to be best friends with Paris Hilton and became famous by staring in "The...

Hide by Lisa Gardner

Advantages: Good pace and twists
Disadvantages: Previous book means not all characters explored fully

...I hadn't read any of Lisa Gardner's books before but had heard of her so when I saw she had a few in the library I picked up one that sounded good and wasn't too big to fit in my bag. The story is about a woman called Annabelle Granger who had spent most of her life on the run, as her father made the family move from place to place changing aliases throughout her childhood until eventually they ended up back in their hometown of Boston and her father died. One morning Annabelle opens the paper and discovers that she has been declared dead, her body found in an underground chamber along with five other young girls. Annabelle goes to the police where she meets Detective Bobby Dodge and Sergeant DD Warren. Bobby is new to working with the Boston police as he used to be a police sniper but due to events in the past he has changed...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Mona Lisa Shines

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: None that I could see

...Like most films I read about on Ciao, I've never seen them, or probably only seen the trailers passing by on the TV. Mona Lisa Smile was something I didn't get a chance to see but the trailers. So I decided to buy it, watch it and do a review on it...so here it is.... MONA LISA SMILE ***ACTORS/ACTRESSES*** Julia Roberts: Runaway Bride, Erin Brockovich Julia Stiles: Save The Last Dance, 10 Things I Hate About You Kirsten Dunst: Spiderman, Spiderman 2 Maggie Gyllenhaal: 40 Days and 40 Nights, Strip Search Ginnifer Goodwin: Walk The Line, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton ***CHARACTERS*** Katherine Watson Played by actress Julia Roberts. Katherine is an idealistic art teacher who wants more than anything to teach at Wellesley college for girls. Not the typical teacher, her methods and ideas are unorthodox...

Nicole'll always be the music to my ears!

Advantages: Durable
Disadvantages: none.. except after approx 8 years as expected

...to go very loud!!!! A dial on the speaker sees to controlling the volume, which you can turn clockwise to make it go louder. To turn them off, you can turn it all the way anticlockwise until it clicks. When they are on, on the speaker with the dials, a red light is lit up. This is handy incase you forget to turn them off at night, as the red light will remind you. ~~~DURABILITY~~~ As I have had these type of speakers for such a long time they have certainly been through their share of tear and wear! They have been dropped off the table countless times and one speaker has a dent in the blue materialised section to prove it! Unfortunately Nicole's beginning to show her age, and the speakers do have some problems to go along with it (bear in mind this is after approx 8 years of working perfectly). Now when I am turning up or down...

Mona Lisa, Leonardo & Florence

Advantages: Great fiction about passion & power struggles in 15th century Florence.
Disadvantages: Historical accuracy of the main character?

...*** The Author *** Jeanne Kalogridis was born in Florida in 1954, has an MA in linguistics and now lives on the USA?s west coast. This book was written in between caring for her husband while he was having chemotherapy, and she praises him for his good humour during the treatment and her writing of the novel. This book has been published as ?I Mona Lisa? is the USA, but the title was changed to ?Painting Mona Lisa? for the UK market. I don?t think they should have changed the title, as the book spends little time telling us of the Mona Lisa painting, but the lady, known as Mona Lisa, is the main character of the story. This is the first book by this author that I have read. Having enjoyed it, I will now look out for her other published historical novels, which are The Borgia Bride and The Burning Times. A brand new novel...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Nicole SD522 (2.1 active loudspeaker system)

Advantages: Great sound, great value, sturdy build, reliable
Disadvantages: Realistically, none

...Well, well. I?ve just stumbled across this site and noticed a pair of Nicole SD522 active speakers that I have been using happily for over 5 years. Haven?t seen these units (or the manufacturers/suppliers name) mentioned anywhere else on the web which is a shame because they?re extremely good little speakers. Seeing as they?ve given me such good service, it?s only fair I review them and I feel as qualified as anyone to do this, as I?ve been involved with top end hi-fi systems for longer than I care to admit. When I bought a computer 6 years ago, I needed decent speakers because the supplied set was pretty dire so I visited a local computer fair. I wasn?t expecting much and the sounds that hit me when I walked into the exhibition hall were dire - nasty plastic box speakers being driven well into distortion. But the back end of the hall...

A women's movie, whether Mona, or Lisa, or...

Advantages: Looks great, nostalgic look at a narrow section of US life
Disadvantages: Period details may not be that accurate, very soppy

.... Kirsten Dunst, (as seen in "Spiderman"), is the completely assured, ultra Republican bitchy one, Betty, whose brilliant mind which looks set to be wasted even more than her classmates. Maggie Gyllenhaal (brilliant in "The Secretary", which although it was released first, was made later than "Mona Lisa Smile") - plays Giselle, a wild child, beautiful but almost in a tomboy kind of way. Julia Stiles ("10 things I hate about you", "Bourne Identity") - plays Joan, who looks like she could go off and have a career in law. Juliet Stevenson appears in the far-too-small role of Amanda Armstrong, a radical teacher, well, I mean - she wears trousers, even! Dominic West plays Bill Dunbar, an Italian teacher at the same college. His role really is the token male role, and he's obviously in there for some kind of interest but it's very lukewarm. Not...
