In the night garden ninky nonk train set
Advantages: strong, versatile, compact, nice bright colours, fun to play with
Disadvantages: none so far
...I decided to buy the in the night garden ninky nonk train set from Amazon as my young daughter is a big fan of in the night garden and whenever it comes on TV she gets really excited. So as my daughter already had some of the other characters from the show I wanted her to have the whole set and since buying it the train set the ninky nonk train set has become one of her favourite toys to play with on a daily basis.
The train set can come apart and be attached on many different ways and my daughter enjoys looking at the nice bright colours and putting some of the other in the night garden characters onto the train set even though it keeps falling of now and again it keeps her busy and sometimes I hear her in fits of giggles. The train set is very cute and versatile and its great as children such as mine can have hours of fun with it...

Loquacious Lisbon
Advantages: A Vibrant City with a Cosmopolitan Atmosphere
Disadvantages: A bit hilly for some
...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the earthquake of 1755, the Marques de Pombal who was one of Portugal's able statesmen set in motion a rapid and well planned reconstruction of the city. One of his lasting legacies is the Cidade Baixa. This orderly street plan stands in stark contrast to the rest of the city centre where narrow streets wind and merge with no particular pattern. There is no other part of the old town where the right angle is so dominant. Pombal left no room for palaces and churches. The buildings were intended as town houses for the middle classes and as outlets for traders such as jewellers and leather suppliers. The street names testify to the districts past. Rua dos Sapateiros near the Rossio was the street of shoemakers.' Lisbon's first cinema was established here and in 1907 was called The Animatografo do Rossio. Beautiful building to look...

There is more to Portugal than the Algarve - visit Lisbon
Advantages: Easy to get around and different quirky places to visit, everyone speaks English
Disadvantages: The City seems a bit 'faded glory'- places uncared for and tired
.... It is an unusual looking piece of architecture, quite ornate and the lift itself is polished wood with two bench seats.
Once you get to the top you have an excellent view up to the Castel de Sao Jorge and fortified walls, down to the river Tagus and also over Rossio square. You then walk out over a metal walkway under a church buttress into the area of Alfama with its old fashioned narrow tram lines, hilly cobbled narrow streets and balconied houses. In the square there was a wonderful display of blooming Jacarandas set against a pink building in the sunshine ? a real photo opportunity.
We were then driven through to the area of a former Expo now called the Park of Nations and we left Lisbon by the other famous bridge across the Tagus, the Vasco de Gama Bridge which was completed in 1998 and is the second longest bridge in Europe at 17...

Create Your Own Night Garden
Advantages: Creative fun for young children
Disadvantages: Expensive for what it really is
...In the Night Garden ? Iggle Piggle and Friends Activity Set
Crayola Beginnings
Create Your Own Night Garden
In the Night Garden is about a magical picture-book garden that exists between waking and sleeping in a child?s imagination. Iggle Piggle brings the child to the garden to enjoy some sweet bedtime relaxation tunes, and introduces many other weird and wonderful characters which is often quite nonsense to the adult though fun for the child.
Although my daughter is not as into the Night Garden as she used to be, she still became excited when opening her present from her Godfather on her birthday, eager to rip open the box and find out what was inside. Not only does she like Night Garden she also adores anything creative so I felt that this was a great present.

A long weekend in Lisbon
Advantages: Reasonably priced, lots to do, good food, great architecture
Disadvantages: Not really any
...We visited Lisbon this September having decided to go there instead of Rome. It has to be said that we were initially motivated by the fact that an equivalent holiday- same number of days, same rating of accommodation- was about HALF the price of Rome.
Lisbon is a fascinating place, the overall impression being of a city of great style and architecture, the ancient (colossal old buildings, grubby but striking statues and monuments) rubbing shoulders with the modern (great trains and tube, some flashy restaurants). It may be because of this that it took a little getting used to.
We arrived on the Saturday evening- admittedly a little late following various delays with the flight and then the bus, which became stuck in rush hour traffic- at our hotel, the Travel Pak in the Anjos area of the city. We ventured out to see if we could...

Put together the Ninky Nonk!
Advantages: Colourful replica of the cheeky TV train
Disadvantages: Does not join together or stay joined as one train
...In the Night Garden is a colourful CBBC program which my little 2yr old brother watches avidly every night before bedtime. Among the various characters is this cheeky little train the Ninky Nonk. It rushes around crazily with ringing bells and flashing lights and the other characters ride in it.
As it is one of the noisiest, fastest and colourful characters In the Night Garden, it was the only toy my brother wanted this Christmas so I duly paid £10 in Debenhams for it after a long search. It was sold out in my local Boots in November!
The Ninky Nonk features 3 plastic carriages on wheels which in the TV series the characters ride in, including Makka Pakka, Iggle Piggle, Upsy Daisy and sometimes the Whattingers if they manage to catch the Nink-Nonk! Unfortunately this Ninky Nonk train seemed a little small for the price paid...

ALL ABOARD THE NINKY NONK-BUT NOT FOR LONG
Advantages: COLOURFUL, TOUGH WEARING, APPEALLING TO FANS
Disadvantages: DOES NOT STAY TOGETHER (ALTHOUGH MAY HAVE A NEW AND IMPROVED VERSION)
...The Ninky Nonk train is the mode of transport on the ground for the"In the night garden" characters. It is often seen at the beginning and is used many times in the stories. It is a little train which goes really fast and gives a bumpy ride to the characters on board whilst taking them to various places in the garden.
This toy train was purchased in September at the Butlins gift shop,in Skegness during our last holiday by my son who saw it and had to have it(if you have read my other reviews you will know that my 2 years old son is an avid fan of the programme). So we parted with £9.99 and got him it.
It comes in three sections which are detachable. The first one is the boat shaped driving front (not used by anyone but sometimes kissed by Upsy Daisy). The second half has 2 attached sections. The first one is the ball shaped...

Lovely Lisbon
Advantages: a really nice city
Disadvantages: none
...Why Lisbon at all? Why a second time after twenty-odd years? The first time it was curiosity that made us choose this destination: what is that capital like at the edge of Europe? Not many details stayed in mind after such a long time but the ones that did were positive ones and we remembered a general sense of well-being, so when my husband and I discussed where to spend a week around Easter this year, Lisbon came to mind.
Easter was very early this year, at the end of March, this means that we saw the first signs of spring, most trees had already green leaves, the grass was green with daisies, dandelions and clover, the temperature was between 18° and 26° C (one rainy day only), so we could sit outside in cafés and enjoy the sun, what more can a Central European want at that time of year?
Situated where it is all the peoples that...

Lisbon - Capital City On A Human Scale
Advantages: Plenty to see, good food, the trams, nice people
Disadvantages: Can't think of any, unless you count having a really odd-sounding language!
...I?ve been to Portugal before, both the more popular Algarve in the south and some quieter regions in the far north on the border with Galicia in Spain. I?ve even been to Oporto, its other major city, but somehow, the capital, Lisbon, had always eluded me.
Up until the weekend of the ?Glasgow Airport Security Alert? that is ? can I pick a great time to be dependant on planes or what? If there?s one thing more uncertain than how it will affect getting there, it?s wondering how it will affect getting home!
Courtesy of some creative accounting at my wife?s school they ended up with a four day break, Friday being a ?SATS marking day? (my wife had done hers), and Monday being a bona fide ?occasional day?, which is not to be sniffed at since it?s an opportunity for those tied to school holidays by marriage, (i.e. me) to take a break when...

Lisbon - vibrant and relaxing
Advantages: Pretty easy to get to from UK
Disadvantages: Lots to see not enough time!
...Lisboa, as the locals call their city ? Lisbon to us British types ? was my latest holiday destination. Literally just returned at the time of writing (well 22 hours ago).
We were looking for somewhere no too far away, warmer than the UK and reasonably priced. A friend had told me that Portugal was pretty inexpensive in terms of a holiday location. So, given that I plan to visit all European capital cities, I figured I?d add Lisbon to my list of those visited.
Lisbon is situated on the banks of the River Tagus to the southern end of Portugal.. It?s also the capital city of Portugal ? which I?m pretty sure the majority of readers already knew!
Getting there
We flew from Edinburgh to Heathrow, then onwards to Lisbon. The journey took around 5 hours and included 1 and a half hours between flights in Heathrow. We flew...
