Review of Lite-ON CD-RW 40r 24w 10rw Int IDE RP by

Advantages: Fast speeds, value for money
Disadvantages: none
...suggest to anyone to get a dvd recorder but if you want to save money and just want to burn cds then this is for you.
Also I have never had a single problem with any LITE-ON drive. I had a friend delete his drivers once and that caused a little problem but LITE-ON support is really good and I was able to get new drivers pretty quick.

Great Value
Review of Philips DVDR 3380 by
Johnny5isalive
Advantages: See review, cheap I paid £79 for 1 and £40 for a second for my father.
Disadvantages: Remote fiddly, start-up speed.
...I've owned a Lite-on DVD-RW and a HDD Freeview Box with twin tuner (great but went faulty after 12 months), so this review is based on comparision with those products.
Positives - The 3380 is slimmer and most importantly quiet, both of the other products suffered with intrusive fan noise. Record quality is good in EP (4hrs) and excellent in SP(2hrs) and HQ(1hr). DivX compatibility and ability to record from DV Cam to DVD is useful as is ability to use both + and - format discs.
RWs can be read by my Sony Laptop regardless of number of recordings on the disc, the discs from my Liteon could not be read until they were made compatible. This is useful, if you record a programme on an RW disc then decide you'd like to keep the recording but free up the RW disc you can make a copy from the RW to a + or - R disc on your laptop, then erase...

Liteon LVW5045? More like Liteoff.
Review of LIteOn LVW-5045 by
wilkinsgraham
Advantages: Low cost
Disadvantages: Dodgy menus, very disk fussy, lousy DVD burner that will fail.
...Dodgy menus that jump back to the previous screen, a very temperamental DVD burner that gives up after about 100 uses.
The unit records well to hard disk, with good quality. Editing is a bit hit and miss, with no real fine control. No way of making recordings exactly fit the disk.
My biggest gripe is the DVD burner, which really isn't up to it.
It's extremely fussy over media type and if it doesn't like a blank disk, it seems to have the nice touch of rendering it unusable.
Eventually the DVD burner in mine gave up all together after ruining 14 disks.
Upgrading the firmware doesn't solve the problem.
I eventually replaced the DVD burner in mine with a Liteon 20X unit for about £16. This solved the problem, and for the moment, it's been working perfectly. Fitting a replacement burner is straightforward enough, though getting it to neatly...

More Lights Off Than LiteOn
Review of Liteon LVW-1105 HC by
sghawken
Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: Dreadfully unreliable
...I have always been a strong supporter of LiteOn DVD products, as well as a DVD writer in one of my PC's I have two LiteON DVD players and two different LiteON DVD recorders all of which I have reviewed and been fiercely proud of; however a recent budget purchase has put LiteOn on a much different plateau in my mind.
In our new home the size of one of my DVD recorders meant that a new purchase was needed; room in our bedroom in a little scarce as we traded down to increase our financial situation. With new bedroom furniture in it meant an existing recorder was millimetres to big for the location. So I headed off into town where I purchased the LiteOn LVW-1105 from Currys. Digital, priced at just £79. Proudly rushing home with my new toy under my arm I was confident that the LiteOn brand was the one for me.
Install is straight forward...

Liteon A740GX
Review of Liteon HD-A 740 GX by
portadownred
Advantages: Really easy to set-up and use.
Disadvantages: Unreliable
...I purchased the Liteon A740GX model in December 2006. It was my first DVD Recorder/HDD. I found this incredibly easy to set-up and incorporate with my SKY Digibox.
The menu system and ease of use is fantastic. Even my wife (non-technical) has been able to use this comfortably. The ability to read avi. is a big bonus as this means you can play direct downloads from the PC without the need for further conversion software. I really like the icon driven program selection. My 3 1/2 year old can actually select a pre-recorded material from the harddrive and playback. So simple.
However, I purchased the unit online from SVP. I never used the record to DVD function until I had the unit around 4 months. It would not recognize blank media of any sort but would still playback pre-recorded material on the same brand of discs. The unit itself...

Liteon LVW 5001 all you need for dvd recording
Review of Liteon LVW5001 by
RNI2020
Advantages: Easy to use, all you need is added
Disadvantages: Remotecontrol is spartanic, manual is creep
...I decided to vvrite this revievv because of the, sometimes amusing, negative testreports about this DVD recorder ( even read in a German test, do not laugh, No video tracking or audio tracking on board...(?) )
I bought this Liteon dvd recorder, let's be honest, because the seller told me that if I should be dissapointed I could bring it back and he should in that case refund my purchase.
But vvhat a surprise, after reading the manual ( translatred from Chinese to German and back to English ) 3 times, connecting the cables I recorded my first DVD.
I tested it on all 4 speed levels and even in the 6 hours mode, the picture and sound seemed okay to me, but, again honest, that is after 20 years of VHS recording;)
The 5001 has everything on board you need for recording, AV plus I-link on the front side, 2 scartcable connections, tulip AV...

Ideal for Movie Downloaders
Review of Liteon LVW-1105 by
harry_harrod
Advantages: Compact, Easy to Use, EASYGUIDE System, DIVX Compatable
Disadvantages: No physical display on unit
...When my old DVD Recorder died on me I was a bit sceptical about purchasing this DVD Recorder, as i had never heard of the Liteon brand. But i heard from a good friend of mine that they were actually a very well established company. Before i made my purchase, i had a look around on the internet for reviews and specifications and i must say, i was very impressed before i even bought the recorder.
When i got back from Currys after having purchased this £100 beauty, the first thing i did was obviously got it out of the box. I was already impressed when i saw that it came with its own scart lead, many players and recorders do not, meaning that you end up having to pay another £10-15 just to connect it up. Liteon are also kind enough to include 1 Rewritable DVD, it may not sound much but it is better than nothing!!
When it was all set up, i...

Great for its features, not so for the reliability
Review of Liteon HD-A 740 GX by
theoldgoat
Advantages: DVD-DL recording, optical output, DVD-R and DVD-+R, lots of features
Disadvantages: DVD drive reliabilty, can't watch and record at same time
...I originally bought the Liteon LVW-5045GDL+ model fro Currys Digital a coupld of years ago when they were doing it on promotion for whatever football cup was on.
We used it for several months without problems, recording to both the HDD and DVDs, and playing many DVDs - both commercial and home-burned.
After about 8 months, the DVD suddenly stopped recognising blank DVDs. I took it back to Currys, who replaced it with the HD-A 740 GX model they then had in stock.
This one works and does its job but has now had two new DVD drives fitted in just over a year. I really don't get this as Liteon have a great reputation for their optical drives in PCs!
Anyway, aside from this, the 740 is a great DVD recorder - it can record to Dual-layer DVDs, has optical output for home cinema, can be firmware upgraded, and has a pretty decent - if complex...

Liteon LVW-5045
Review of LIteOn LVW-5045 by
AmonRa
Advantages: Large 160GB hard drive, good-quality recording, copy DVDs to hard drive
Disadvantages: Basic looks
...The Liteon LVW-5045 is a combi DVD/HD recorder with integrated 160GB hard drive.
After reading several reviews abou the Liteon LVW-5045 it was touch and go as to whether to part with my hard earned cash and ditch my old VCR. I had read that some purchasers had had problems with the device crashing and being unable to turn the machine off. I eventually decided to take the plunge and boy am I glad that I did.
I had read that the firmware in the machine was upgradeable, so before turning it on, I went to the website and downloaded the latest firmware to CD. All very easy.
From first use, I was impressed with how easy it was to operate the machine. All of the functions are accessible from an easer guider on screen menu. All functions are so easy to access.
I immediately started to transfer my favourite videos to the hard disk...

LiteOn LVW-5035 DVD recorder with 160GB hard drive
Review of LIteOn LVW-5045 by
widdley24
Advantages: One touch recording, no discs needed, cheap set but great quality
Disadvantages: Only recognises certain discs, needs updates regularly
...This is a great set!!! does everything you need.
Records from the TV with one touch of a button, straight onto the hard drive which will take hours of programmes, there's no loss of quality as it is all digital! So crystal clear images every time.
We have had our recorder for about 4 years now and its still going strong, we have to download updates from the LiteOn website periodically to keep it up to date.
It plays all types of DVD's, CD's, MP3's, picture discs, VCD's, SVCD's, Data discs, Media discs and will copy all discs as long as they are not protected by copyright. It will even play Nero media files taken off your PC.
It records DVD RW/R +/-, CD RW/R +/-, will write in MP3 format if the original was in MP3.
Its not that slow either, its a great all rounder and simple to use. My dad is the expert on this machine and he swears...
