Liteon LVW-5002 DVD Player

...Liteon LVW-5002 DVD Player I have had this DVD player now for a couple of years and I think I am stuck with it until I can get the funds together to get another one. I have been disappointed with this player since day one and I wish I had returned it as soon as I realised how rubbish it truly was. I bought it from Curry's as I say a few years ago when the recordable DVD player first came out. I paid £180 for the machine with remote control and this price was pretty much the cheapest I could find for a recordable DVD player at that time. I think you can pick them up for probably about half the price now. The DVD player really looks the part and is a lovely silver and mirror design. The player looks very flash and the mirrors on the box hide the part where you put in the DVD disc. There are few buttons on the outside...

More Lights Off Than LiteOn

...I have always been a strong supporter of LiteOn DVD products, as well as a DVD writer in one of my PC's I have two LiteON DVD players and two different LiteON DVD recorders all of which I have reviewed and been fiercely proud of; however a recent budget purchase has put LiteOn on a much different plateau in my mind. This was an NEC model 1300a and was one of the first to handle both DVD-R and DVD+R formats, without paying the somewhat inflated prices being bandied around by Sony at the time. Great, fast, reliable drive.

Advantages: Fast, reliable, cheap, reads all sorts of discs, not mega loud.
Disadvantages: Before driver update, problem reading a certain disc, just update it!

...This is a great cheap Sata drive, that works perfectly, effectively, efficently, fast, and is reliable. Being one of the fastest drives in the world (quoted as being THE fastest), this is a pretty good drive! I got 2GB of data writen to a DVD in UNDER 2 minutes, which is increadible, so no problems in terms of speed, that's for sure. The drive works quiter than other drives, but obviously not silently. The drive opens and closes fast enough, and starts reading the disc with a reasonably low delay. The drive comes with Nero software, though I don't really get alone with this software, so I use another piece of software to write CDs and DVDs. I would recommend you download the latest drivers off LiteOn's website, as I did have a bit of a problem in reading some discs, which installing the latest drivers helped to read them, though...

LITEON DD-A500GX DVD RECORDER

Advantages: Nice Appearance

...ready television so I didn't connect the HDMI cable. Playback of all my bought dvds was excellent so I was well chuffed with my purchase. Now to the drawbacks.................................... My first attempt at playing a divx movie was a disaster. Picture was perfect but the sound was out of sync and the movie shuddered occasionally. I looked up liteon website and found there was firmware to correct this problem, which I downloaded, followed the correct procedure but it made no difference. I thought perhaps it was the discs I was using but after playing them on my son's player there was no fault with the discs, which were high quality discs. LiteOn - Strange name - Excellent product!

Advantages: Easy Backup from TV/SAT/VHS/MiniDV Camcorder - Features Timeslip / Edit Out Adverts / 160Gb Storage Capacity / Writes on both DVD+/- R and CD's
Disadvantages: Slow to boot up / Difficult to cut to exact frames when removing adverts

The convenience of not having to search for a disc and being able to record or back up video then edit out bits I didn't want, was just too huge an attraction.
