...Liteon LVW-5002 DVD Player I have had this DVD player now for a couple of years and I think I am stuck with it until I can get the funds together to get another one. I have been disappointed with this player since day one and I wish I had returned it as soon as I realised how rubbish it truly was. I bought it from Curry's as I say a few years ago when the recordable DVD player first came out. I paid £180 for the machine with remote control and this price was pretty much the cheapest I could find for a recordable DVD player at that time. I think you can pick them up for probably about half the price now. The DVD player really looks the part and is a lovely silver and mirror design. More Lights Off Than LiteOn

...I have always been a strong supporter of LiteOn DVD products, as well as a DVD writer in one of my PC's I have two LiteON DVD players and two different LiteON DVD recorders all of which I have reviewed and been fiercely proud of; however a recent budget purchase has put LiteOn on a much different plateau in my mind. In our new home the size of one of my DVD recorders meant that a new purchase was needed; room in our bedroom in a little scarce as we traded down to increase our financial situation. LITEON DD-A500GX DVD RECORDER

Advantages: Nice Appearance
Disadvantages: No menu and quite difficult to set up

My first attempt at playing a divx movie was a disaster. Picture was perfect but the sound was out of sync and the movie shuddered occasionally. I looked up liteon website and found there was firmware to correct this problem, which I downloaded, followed the correct procedure but it made no difference. I thought perhaps it was the discs I was using but after playing them on my son's player there was no fault with the discs, which were high quality discs. LiteOn - Strange name - Excellent product!

Advantages: Easy Backup from TV/SAT/VHS/MiniDV Camcorder - Features Timeslip / Edit Out Adverts / 160Gb Storage Capacity / Writes on both DVD+/- R and CD's
Disadvantages: Slow to boot up / Difficult to cut to exact frames when removing adverts

The convenience of not having to search for a disc and being able to record or back up video then edit out bits I didn't want, was just too huge an attraction. ...Having two seperate office locations, my company got fed up of having to burn CD's to transfer large amounts of data from one place to another. This worked out OK for a while, but with a CD only being able to store up to 700MB, we were spending quite a lot of time burning the disks, so an external HDD was in order. We had used external SCSI disks in the past, but there were a few disadvantages involved, namely having to physically shut the computer down to remove the device and then having to shut down the second machine to attach the disk at the second place. I couldn?t wait to receive this as it was my first hardware delivery of the week, apart from my new floppy disks. I ordered about 150 of these drive and what can I say they are much better than any other brand I have tried. Lite-On are a new group to me but they offer really good hardware for really cheap and not so nasty prices.
