Odeon - Liverpool's Number One
Advantages: Good sized screens, great auditoriums, caters for everyone,
Disadvantages: Popcorn sometimes cardboardy, expensive chocolate treats,
...I am a huge cinema fan, and living in the centre of Birmingham for the last couple of years has meant putting up with Odeon Birmingham. Needless to say, I was very happy to discover the brand spanking new Odeon in Liverpool One,
Odeon Liverpool One
Odeon is actually the largest cinema chain in the UK, created by Oscar Deutsch in 1928. Some say that the name comes from Ancient Greek, others say that it comes from the motto Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation.
There are currently... a lot of Odeon cinemas across the UK (I tried to count, but it's a lot!). The website has a cinema finder to help you locate your nearest. For this review I shall be talking about Odeon, Liverpool ONE.
When Liverpool ONE was redeveloped, the city centre Odeon branch was relocated here. The entrance can be found...

Liverpool Lovelies Trilogy ... Part 2
Advantages: Loads of room to park our bottoms, jacuzzi, freebies and a huge bed!
Disadvantages: Having to knock on the door like an old strumpet at 5am, paying for parking my car, cheek!!
...of us slept very well if at all. Jo your bed is a nightmare girl, how she sleeps in it is beyond me it was like sleeping on a concrete block, Jules ended up with a bad back and I had an aching face from laughing at her most of the night. It was decided there and then to check into a hotel for the following night.
Ringing round that morning though was proving difficult, it was Liverpool's last game of the season and all the hotels were fully booked, good from the point of view that the city center would be full of men, bad because we needed to sleep ... eventually.
We finally found a hotel with one room only for the night, The Holiday Inn Liverpool City Center. It was close to everything, in fact right on the doorstep of the clubs and bars, handy for late night stumbling, but one problem, the only room available was The Presidential...

WEST FIELD SHOPPING CENTRE DERBY
Advantages: COSTLY
Disadvantages: OUT PRICING SMALLER OUTLETS
...Recent talks on cutting spending and new shopping centres are not well-matched with each other. Yes we love these new shopping centres and plush surroundings, tempting everyone to spend all their well earned money.
But are we tempted? This is the multimillion dollar question.
I love to shop like everybody else and buy new things like any other normal person would, also to have a good choice.
So my idea of shopping is the traditional high street.
Traditional high street shopping is where you will find the best choice and a variety of shops to suit everyone,
Building huge shopping centres takes up space of any town or city and is becoming really outdated and boring.
Today another shopping centre opens its doors and it is mammoth like those of Gates Head in...

Classy Liverpool Marriott
Advantages: Central, clean, helpful staff, good facilities
Disadvantages: Price of food!
...Me and my girlfriend stayed in the Marriott for one night back in March 2007.
The reception area in the Marriott is very nice and extremely clean.
When checking in the receptionist was very friendly, offering us extra services and any help/advice we needed for our stay.
The conceirge was also very polite, helping us in the lift and offering us help with our bags.
The actual room was great, a lovely view looking onto some of Liverpool's historic buildings and the bed was very comfortable. The room was extremely clean and the bathroom was also very nice.
We had a meal in the hotel and although the service was second to none, and the meal was beautiful, the pricing was extremely high. We would not eat in the hotel if we stayed again as there are many lovely restaurants close by the hotel offering much greater value. The meal...

Inspiring Capital,Inspiring Shopping Centre?
Advantages: Very Clean, Easy to get around, Lots of Space
Disadvantages: Too few shops, not on two levels, not that easy to get to
...The Gyle Shopping Centre in Edinburgh which opened in October 1993 is one of 4 main shopping centres in Edinburgh. The others are Cameron Toll, St James Centre, Waverley Market(Princes Mall) and Ocean Terminal. There is also Westside Plaza but this isn't exactly what you call a main shopping centre and Straiton park,Craigleith(The Quarry) and Fort Kinnaird are all Retail parks.
The Gyle is a approx a 10 minute drive from Edinburgh International Airport by car/taxi. It is approx a 30 minute drive from the City Centre depending on the time of day and the route you take to get there as it is often very congested nearby due to it being directly opposite Edinburgh Park(Home to the RBOS headquarters and a whole host of big companies) .The area round the Gyle is mostly businesses and there is are many houses nearby within walking distance...

De Bradlei Wharf Shopping Centre
Advantages: Discount goods, nicely laid out
Disadvantages: None
...Location
The De Bradelei Wharf in Dover, is located in Cambridge Road which is just off the main A20 dual carriageway. It is only a ten inute walk from the train station and a fifteen minute walk from the main bus station. It is about a five minute walk from Dover Town Centre market square.
De Bradelei Wharf
This shopping outlet is built in the historic Wellington Dock area of the town which is just behind the sea front with ample pay and display parking. If you buy something in store, the cost of your parking will be refunded.
The cost of the pay and display is £2.50. There are plenty of disabled parking bays too.
The entrance is constructed on decking which runs the full length of the complex on one side.
Here you can sit outside and enjoy the hanging baskets which are put out in the summer months.

STAR CITY PT 2 - A Shopping Centre with 3 Shops
Advantages: The Cinema and lots of Good food Shops
Disadvantages: The Lack Of Any Other Shops
...UPDATE – I lied there are 4 shops! See op for updates...
Well part two of my Star City experience coming up as promised (and another inadvertant Underdog op as no one has yet filled this section of Ciao with wonderful ops)! I have to admit that when Ian and I decided to visit Star City it was purely based on the shear size of the cinema. We'd driven past it when off to buy stuff from Ikea (in Wednesbury) and been flabbergasted by the huge cinema. It's only when you actually get there, that you realise that it isn't just a 30 screen multiplex, it's also a mini shopping centre.
So, for those who didn't read part one of my Star City op's here's how to get there (if you did, just scroll down to the "shopping" section): Star City is situated just off the M6 and is sign posted pretty clearly (although the brown signs are pretty...

Formule 1 Liverpool City Center
Advantages: Cheap, good location.
Disadvantages: shareing toilet and shower,
...made from plastic, which left the floor slippery and very dangerous.
The location of the hotel is ideal, oppiste the albert docks, in the heart of the city center close to all the shops, clubs, pubs and the river mersy.
Th only food court i encounted was the coke vending machine, coffee vending machine and a little bar style table next to them. For hot food i was recommened by the stewart manning the reception to use the pizza leaflets pinned up on the wall. Being a fan of pizza though i was ok with this. They even come up right to your door with the pizza.
During the night i didnt get much sleep, as hotels this cheap are used for clubbers who stop over in the city, so means that all hours through the night there is alot of people in and out of the corridors drunk, poeple getting a shower, passing your door every so often...

Cardiff City Centre - Shopping
Advantages: Wide variety of shops - a large amuont under cover
Disadvantages: Parking costs
...Having lived here all my life, I have seen Cardiff grow from a small city in the '70's to a major shopping centre over the last 30 years, and it has certainly benefitted from all the inward investment and new development that comes with this recognition.
Travelling into Cardiff City centre by car is not too much of a problem traffic wise compared to other major cities in the UK. There are the usual rush hour delays on weekdays, but these are usually resolved by about 9.30, and on weekends the roads stay fairly clear, except when there are rugby internationals at the impressive new Millennium Stadium. Concerts really aren't a problem as they are usually held in the evenings after the shops have closed. Of course, Christmas causes the biggest problems!
No major problems with parking - the city has numerous multi-storey car parks...

Great value in Berlin city centre
Advantages: Value
Disadvantages: Nothing springs to mind
...of mini centres all over the city and our hotel was situated in one of these. It is situated on Kurfurstenstrasse, which we found to be very central. There is a U-Bahn station within five minutes walk of the hotel which gives access to the whole city. There were numerous restaurants and bars within easy walking distance of the hotel which was great in the evenings. There is a large shopping centre with a variety of shops to suit all budgets about ten minutes walk away and the city zoo is about a five minute walk away.
We felt quite safe walking around in the evenings in the vicinity of the hotel but you didn't have to go too far from the hotel before you were in an area that wasn't quite so safe feeling.
Breakfast
The hotel offers a continental breakfast which is included in the room rate for the night (which I think is becoming...
