Friends For Life - A new Incentive for Primary Education
Advantages: Preparing our children for the stresses of our modern world
Disadvantages: none
...achieved.
~~~~ Conclusion~~~~
During the course of this programme I have watched my class investigate ideas and feelings, create action plans and put in place strategies to support them with everyday anxieties and stresses. This class in particular are benefiting from the sessions due to their difficult home situations and past experiences that have been very difficult. I can see a new confidence in the way they face situations. We have always had a ? I CAN? I WILL TRY?? motto and this has really supported that idea.
The whole experience has been brilliant for myself and my children as learners. I would recommend anyone ? not just those in education ? to look at the benefits of this programme.
Once upon a time, in Liverpool...
Advantages: An excellent museum dedicated to the Fab Four, suitable for all age groups
Disadvantages: Some of the headsets are a bit dodgy (it was just mine) and some displays not working
...This time during the month of Beatlemania, instead of just writing about the bands albums, films and death theories, I wanted to write about some of the ways in which Liverpool still celebrate the lives of their favourite sons (beside the football players!). Although Ringo made a few disparaging comments towards his hometown a year or two ago, the phrase ?everyone has to start somewhere? springs to mind and ? although I may be a little bias ? I would have to say that Liverpool is very much the land of opportunity compared to where I live!
Right at the heart of the city is Albert Dock, a place now surrounded by various shops, museums and even a hotel with the Echo Arena mere feet away. When I was very little, perhaps six, I remember Mummy and Daddy, as they were affectionately called back then, taking my Brother and I right near...
Educational fun.
Advantages: Versatilty, price.
Disadvantages: The pencil is a little too thin
...This is the first handheld console I have ever owned. I'm 27 years old.
The main reason I purchased the DS was so I could play 'Brain Training Games' or other Educational games. I played on a friends and found it very entertaining, I figured that if I bought one myself I'd challenge myself mentally and wouldn't just sit around watching TV!
The best thing about the DS is the genre of games available for it, similar to the WII - Nintendo decided to target a different audience than the stereotypical gamers. I feel the succeeded in doing so. I read an article that a school had introduced the use of Nintendo DSs into children's mathematics lesson, with results of better learning and improved concentration. I am also a teacher and my children loved testing their knowledge on various maths games.
The feel of the DS is also very nice...
Odeon - Liverpool's Number One
Advantages: Good sized screens, great auditoriums, caters for everyone,
Disadvantages: Popcorn sometimes cardboardy, expensive chocolate treats,
...that there is nearly always a 3D on show here. I've noticed that more and more films are coming out in 3D now, and a nice variety to cater for all tastes and ages. It will cost a tad more to watch a 3D film, but they are worth it. You are provided with glasses when you buy your tickets.
* Advance Screenings - if you're lucky enough to get your hands on tickets, Odeon do screen films before general release. I've managed to see one so far - a whole 10 days before general UK release.
* Educational films - Odeon Liverpool ONE claim to show films that are relevant to subjects covered in the national curriculum and encourage schools to bring groups on visits, and also suggesting that it could be useful for students in further and higher education studying media and communication. They can provide more information if you contact...
Liverpool Football Club
Advantages: Great squad, great fans, great manager, great history
Disadvantages: No league title for 16 years
....
5. Daniel Agger
Born on 12th December 1984 in Denmark, Daniel has shown already, despite such a young age, all the credentials of a top class defender. After starting his career with Rosenhoj he was quickly spotted by Brondby and duly made the switch at the tender age of 19. He helped them to the league championship during the 2004/05 season and made his international debut on June 2nd 2005 against Finland.
He was awarded the title "find of the year" throughout sport in Denmark in 2005 and shot even further into prominence with a wonderful performance against the strike partnership of Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen in Denmark's 4-1 victory over England in August 2005. A man with such a reputation could not stay at Brondby long. Despite such a short career so far, Liverpool jumped at the opportunity to sign the young man in January...
Liverpool in trouble
Advantages: One of the biggest clubs in Europe...
Disadvantages: ...going through their worst run in 50 years.
...Picture the scene; it's early November and after a 2-0 win against West Ham, Liverpool went seven points clear at the top of the Premiership and were striding towards a place in the next round of the Champions League, it appeared that it would have to take something very special to knock them out of their stride. Three months on and defeats to the likes of Middlesborough and Sunderland have seen Liverpool slump down the Premiership with no wins in eleven games and an early exit from the Champion League at the hands of little known Swiss club Basle. So where has it all gone wrong for the mighty reds?
Every pundit, fan and his dog has had their two pence worth. Excuses and reasons range from poor management and lack of commitment from the players, to wrong formation and wrong players. I think the problem is much simpler...
UPDATED Liverpool FC Treble winners 2001
Advantages: On their Day can Beat absolutely ANYONE
Disadvantages: Cant we just win something the easy way for once
...Oh well, I think its about time I re-wrote my opinion on Liverpool, I wrote the original opinion earlier in the season, when we where showing terrible inconsistency, but it seems this got sorted out, as we went on to win a “HISTORIC TREBLE”, by winning the Worthington Cup, The FA Cup and the U.E.F.A Cup, a fete that has never been done by any English team, and hopefully we can round off a great season on Saturday, by gaining the third Champions League place, by beating Charlton Athletic.
The Worthington cup was won in Cardiff on the 25th of February, by beating a very brave and committed Birmingham City, who took us all the way to penalties, after the match ended 1-1 after extra-time, maybe this was the warning to us Liverpool fans, that if we won this Treble, it would be at the cost of our Health and Sanity, as this was...
An Education in Great Cinema
Advantages: Great story, Brilliant acting - another classic from Almodovar
Disadvantages: None worth mentioning
...Bad Education (or La Mala Educación) is the latest film (released 2004) from the great Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. Anyone who has an interest in Spanish cinema will know Almodóvar as the director of such excellent films as ?Talk to Her? and ?All About My Mother?. Bad Education stars Gael Garcia Bernal, the Mexican heart-throb who has appeared in a whole list of films, not least ?The Motorcycle Diaries?, ?Amores Perros? and ?Y tu Mamá También?. The film is subtitled, so if you can?t handle that then read no further (but you are missing such a lot).
**** Plot Summary ****
In 1980 Madrid Enrique Goded (Fele Martinez) is a young successful film director searching newspapers for an idea for a story for a new film. The doorbell rings and a bearded young man enters claiming to be Enrique?s old school friend Ignacio Rodriguez...
Education Studies at SHU
Advantages: Friendly staff, keep job options open, Sheffield, Work Experience
Disadvantages: Work Placements aren't always as hoped for
...have taken this in Year1 in order to continue at a higher leve in Year 2, I could take an Education Studies elective or continue along the counselling route. I guess what I'm saying is be careful, think about what you want to do and don't make a snap decision like I did. Of course what happened there was entirely my fault, I didn't read the terms and conditions so to speak, but I am warning others to always make sure you know what you're letting yourself in for.
Anyway onto the modules that I have studied, again I'd like to mention that these may have changed, as there has been a lot of change within the course over the past year or so. These are the modules that I have studied:
>> Year 1 <<
-Policy Studies - a look at educational policy, different education acts and their implication. This module looks at education through history...
Lively Liverpool
Advantages: I live here
Disadvantages: Some shops aren't here, the weather
...(locally known as Paddy's Wigwam) on Mount Pleasant, near to Liverpool University Student's Union, and at the other end of Hope Street, The Anglican Cathedral, the largest Anglican Cathedral in Europe. Admission is free to both but donations are welcome.
SCENERY:
The city itself is quite attractive. If you take a walk down to the Pierhead you can gaze at the Liver Birds on top of the Liver Buildings. There are lots of old buildings in the city that give you a real sense of the city's history.
If you want to go a little further afield whilst you're in Liverpool, a good tip (for the summer) is to head North to Formby and the surrounding area. Here you will find the Red Squirrel nature reserve and a nice beach and sand dunes. You can get a train to Formby from Liverpool Central station, or alternatively drive there. It is about 12-15 miles...
