Run Lola Run

Advantages: Enjoyable action, decent violence, gore and Arnie one-liners.
Disadvantages: Missing the intelligence of the source novel making it fairly one-dimesional.

Yet the game shows in King's world are often deadly to the contestants despite the big money prizes on offer, making it all the more intriguing for the bloodthirsty audiences of the future to enjoy. Keep on Running ...

Advantages: Original, fast-paced storytelling, a visceral thrill.
Disadvantages: Hard to work out the thinking behind the action.

...A short, sharp curiosity of a film, the German offering Run Lola Run (Lola Rennt) is an unrelenting assault on the senses that tells the story of twenty minutes - three times. Lola (Franka Potente) receives a call at home from her panicked boyfriend, Manni, an errand-boy for a Berlin gangster; he has mislaid the package he was supposed to be transporting and needs to raise 100,000 Deutschmarks before his boss catches up with him. Fearing for his life, he tells Lola that he plans to rob the supermarket opposite his phonebox. Attempting to advise Manni against this, Lola can only secure herself a twenty-minute delay; when the clock strikes midday, Manni will enter the supermarket - unless his girlfriend can get there with the money first. Review of Run Lola Run (DVD)

Once upon a time, in Liverpool...

Advantages: An excellent museum dedicated to the Fab Four, suitable for all age groups
Disadvantages: Some of the headsets are a bit dodgy (it was just mine) and some displays not working

...This time during the month of Beatlemania, instead of just writing about the bands albums, films and death theories, I wanted to write about some of the ways in which Liverpool still celebrate the lives of their favourite sons (beside the football players!). Although Ringo made a few disparaging comments towards his hometown a year or two ago, the phrase ?everyone has to start somewhere? springs to mind and ? although I may be a little bias ? I would have to say that Liverpool is very much the land of opportunity compared to where I live! Liverpool in trouble

Advantages: One of the biggest clubs in Europe...
Disadvantages: ...going through their worst run in 50 years.

...: the rotation system. There is no doubt that Liverpool have world class players throughout their squad but I believe that they need to enjoy a run of games with the same players. You might argue that Manchester United and Arsenal adopt the same policy, but I feel that cometh the big games you could select at least nine definate starters for both teams - for Liverpool this isn't the case. Houlier has so many players coming in and out of the team that even they can't know what the eleven is likely to be every week. If players could gain some stability from knowing they were getting a run in the team maybe it would take some pressure off them, not to mention give a kick up the backside to those left on the sidelines for a few weeks. So the championship seems to be heading back to either Highbury or Old Trafford but Liverpool will be back...

...I would just like to write a review on running for charity, although it is something that I may actually have covered in part in some of my previous reviews in some descriptions. However, back to the subject in hand. Advantages: 1. You get fit, as you have to train in order to complete the final run (this is usually by way of a marathon). 2. You get to meet like minded people, although they may not all be running for your own charity (or they may not even be running for charity!). 3. You get a feeling of purpose and a sense of goodness, as you are doing something to not only help yourself but also to benefit others in some way. Disadvantages: 1. The Second thing this match will be remembered for, will be the THREE goal-line clearances by Sami Hyypia and several other misses by the Arsenal, yes I agree, and so does every Liverpool fan I know agree, we should have been dead and buried...

...I would just like to offer some thoughts on running, after spending sme time doing it in training for the local half marathon. One of the good things about running is that it actually not only gets you out of the house, but believe it or not actually gets you fit at the same time! It is about one of the only things that helps you to get fit, that doesn't cost a single penny to do! OK, so you have to buy a decent pair of running shoes along with some decent kit - but as an intial outlay, that is nothing compared to the fun that can be had in this hobby. This is also something that can be done with a friend, as you can encourage one another as you go along. Or, you could also always join a running club and meet new like mminded friends at the same time as getting fit (OK, fitter!). However, there are many downsides to running...
