Beloved Ljubljana
Advantages: Relatively undiscovered, low prices, beautiful city
Disadvantages: None at all - except I don't live there!
...I almost don't want to tell anyone about Ljubljana. You see Easy Jet start flying to the Slovene capital in May and that will no doubt mean many more people discovering this gem for themselves. (Not only that but it'll probably mean I pay more to get there when I return in October!) The name Ljubljana almost matches the Slovene "ljubljena" which means "beloved" which I think is perfect for this city.
Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia, formerly part of Yugoslavia. Slovenia nestles snugly between Austria (to the north), Italy (to the south west), Croatia (to the south) and Hungary (to the east). It has a small stretch of coastline on the Adriatic which can be reached by ferry from the Italian port of Trieste. Please don't confuse Slovenia with Slovakia (the republic which, with the Czech Republic, made up the former...

Ljubljana - Laibach (lie-back) and enjoy
Advantages: Compact, good street bars and cafes, attractive buildings, the river
Disadvantages: Compact
...Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia, which is the northernmost republic of what used to be Yugoslavia, sharing borders with Italy and Austria in the Alps, and Hungary to the east and Croatia to the South. Slovenia was one of the 10 countries which joined the European Union on 1 May 2004, and adopted the euro as its currency on 1 January 2007. Slovenia will take over the rotating Presidency of the EU on 1 January 2008, the first of the new Members States to have this role.
= BRIEF POTTED HISTORY OF LJUBLJANA=
Mythology has it that Jason got lost on his way back on the Argo from hunting the Golden Fleece, and sailed up the Danube and its tributaries, ending up on the Ljubljanica river. Ending up in a swamp, the Argonauts had to disassemble the boat and carry it to the Adriatic. However, on this journey they encountered...

Trip to Ljubljana Please!
Advantages: Undiscovered, Cheaper Than Home, Safe
Disadvantages: City is Quite Small
...I have decided to start with a geography lesson, so for those of you who know about Ljubljana and Slovenia can skip this. The city of Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, a part of former Yugoslavia located in the heart of central europe with Italy to the west, Hungary to the East, Austria to the North and Croatia lies in the south. Thus it is very easy to reach by car, bus or train from any of these countries if you are off exploring. From the UK now Easyjet have started a service flying from London Stansted to Ljubljana priced at around £18 one way meaning that the chance of going away for a short break to this city is increased, this and along with the Euro being implemented next year means that people should be thinking of exploring this city ASAP.
I visited Ljubljana this July during a tour which included many cities in Europe...

I finally made the Grad in Ljubljana
Advantages: Great building, good views, funicular railway
Disadvantages: Not the best if you have a bad head for heights
...Ljubljana castle (Ljubljanski grad) sits proudly atop a hill overlooking the capital city of Slovenia, which is the northernmost republic of what used to be Yugoslavia, sharing borders with Italy and Austria in the Alps, and Hungary to the east and Croatia to the South. Slovenia was one of the 10 countries which joined the European Union on 1 May 2004, and adopted the euro as its currency on 1 January 2007. Slovenia will take over the rotating Presidency of the EU on 1 January 2008, the first of the new Members States to have this role.
= LJUBLJANA CASTLE
Ljubljana castle is the prominent feature of the city, perched on a hill high above the Ljubljanica river. There is evidence that castle hill was inhabited back in the 12th century BC, with remains found dating from then. While there are suspicions of fortifications...

Ljubljana – a charming city with many faces
Advantages: Cf review
Disadvantages: Cf review
...Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia and especially in the last few years has attracted many visitors. Tourists who visit Ljubljana only for a few days or even only for a few hours return as soon as possible to discover much more of the beautiful town located at the heart of Slovenia. Foreigners who, for various reasons live in Ljubljana, enjoy the very relaxing atmosphere and a very high quality of living in this pleasant city. Ljubljana is at the crossroads between the Alps and Adriatic Coast and is indeed a hidden treasure in central Europe, still to be revealed and explored.
One of the well-known tourist guides describes Ljubljana as a "smaller Prague without the hordes of tourists". Actually, the architecture of this charming city of many faces reminds one, in some way, of Vienna or Salzburg. Slovenia was for many years...

A Taste Of Christmas In Slovenia
Advantages: Small but perfectly formed...between the Alps & the Adriatic.
Disadvantages: Very Few Indeed!
...Christmas in Ljubljana
It really is a small world. Flying to Slovenia, I sat beside a woman whose husband had been at school with one of my brothers, in Australia, fifteen years ago. Still, whilst it's a small world, some places are definitely smaller than others, and for a Capital City, Slovenia's Ljubljana is positively tiny.
We flew across central Europe on a frigidly cold December day. A plump blanket of cloud obscured everything beneath us until suddenly, somewhere over Austria, it ended abruptly and a row of jagged Alps stood gleaming in the sunshine. The plane was mainly full of Slovenians, returning from shopping jaunts to London. I'd watched them, almost pityingly, as they'd hauled down their Hamley's bags and touching little London mementoes from the luggage racks, to brighten, I conjectured, their bleak Slovenian...

City of Culture
Advantages: so much to see, do and learn, a beautiful city in the heart of Slovenia
Disadvantages: not suitable for party animals and sun, sea, surf and sand seekers!
...***LJUBLJANA***
Ljubljana (pronounced: lube lee ana) is the capital city of Slovenia. There has been a lot of discussion into the name and where it originated from some believe that it was named after the Latin name 'aluviana' which refers to a flooded river. Romantics however would prefer to believe that the name refers to the Slavic word 'Luba' which means 'beloved'.
I visited Ljubljana two years ago for a European Convention. I really could not have imagined opr prepared for the outstanding beauty of the city. Unlike many cities I have visited this one is surrounded by greenery and is a really gorgeous sight to wake up to everyday.
Walking through the city I was drawn immediately to the ornate carvings and beautiful artwork. The buildings have a lot of character and are beautiful. It is impossible to look out over Ljubljana...

The nicest place that I ever saw!!!
Advantages: beautiful, cheap and safe place
Disadvantages: anithing
...First of all, I want to apologize of my english, cause I'm an spanish girl! Sorry!
Last summer I was for 2 months working in Ljubljana. It was one of the best places where I ever been.
Ljubljana it's called "the little Prag", and it is true. I think it's the best way to explain how is Ljubljana.
It is a very nice place, and also you can visit: Bled (a maravellous lake), Bohinj (a natural park), Nova Gorica region, the slovenian coast (Piran, Izola & Portoroz), and of course, the caves (Postojna and Predjama casttle).
I'm in love with Slovenia, and maindly Ljubljana. So, I recomaind to all of you to visit this fantastic place!!
The other thing that impressed to me so much was the slovenian people. They are very very friendly and kind. And also, they speak perfetly english and most of them german too. So, you are not to have any...

A hotel Fit for Queen
Advantages: comfortable, well situated, good value for money
Disadvantages: none really, too expencive if you just looking for a place to flop
...This really is an exceptional hotel. Built in the last days of the Austro-Hungarian empire it has survived the communist years to emerge, recently totally renovated, to be by far the best hotel in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana.
Rated 4 stars its likley to go to 5 stars following the Queen of England' s recent state visit to Slovenia when she stayed two nights at this hotel.
The rooms are very large and ,as mentioned above, recently renovated, The one we stayed in was pleasently different from the usual hotel room design with a central island holding the TV above and the mini bar below.
The room lighting is worth a mention, all types of light were available from soft mood to bright working light, wall lights , hidden lighting and bed side lights .
Only thing missing from the room was a tea and coffee service, but in my experience...
