Advantages: Lots of big tunes Disadvantages: A couple of the tracks let it down
...In 1990 came LL Cool J?s fourth album, ?Mama Said Knock You Out?. It appeared to have him move on significantly as the last album was filled with ballad raps, and hear he made a turn towards the street Rap to please his core fan base once again. This was taken even further with the album after it, so this is seen as a point where he chooses to change how people perceive him and his music.
1. ?The Boomin? System?
This kind of thing is on another rise, and at the time it was pretty fresh to do so as this one has him do more bragging raps which have him talk about the type of thing he is able to spend his money on, and so here he gets a chance to flows about how heavy the sound system is in his car, and how he makes everyone?s head turn as he hits the corner. It was the first single from the album, and was appropriately chosen to start...
Advantages: Production is ILLLLLLLL; LL Cool J's lyrics are excellent; Variety and Flavor Disadvantages: 3 Average cuts... LL's gangsta image isn't believable
...Mr. Smith is one of LL Cool J's best albums in his allustrious 20 year career, yet most true-blue music/hip-hop fans don't recognize it as such. Sure, the album is easily LL's biggest selling CD to date, but yet it's always forgotten when mentioning LL's discography while hailing Mama Said Knock You Out as LL's magnum opus. Yes, that album was hot, but so was this one. Yeah, I know it all depends on opinion, but I think it's time to switch that up. While few have said it's hot, some people have called this album "average" or "pretty nice", but not me. From the first listen to the last (with the exception of the occassional speedbump), I immediately fell in love with the album. There's a little bit of everything here. A variety in subject matter and production, to LL's mixing of flows and great guest stars make Mr. Smith essential hip...
Advantages: Very atmospheric, highly watchable, excellent acting Disadvantages: Stardust being the follow-on to That'll Be The Day
...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That'll Be The Day is set in 1959, and tells the story of how school dropout and rock'n'roll singer wannabe Jim MacLaine, loses his innocence.
Like with the other films and plays I have reviewed, I don't want to give the plot away to anybody who hasn't seen it and wants to, so I will just give a very brief outline of the setting for That'll Be The Day.
This was David Essex's first major film role (he had played tiny parts in one or two other minor late 1960s films), and he was nominated for Best Newcomer, with Rosemary Leach who played his mother, being nominated for best actress.
On coming home in 1944 after serving in WW2, Mr MacLaine tries to settle down with his wife and then small son (Jim), working behind the counter in the grocery shop which the family owned and ran. After not too long, Mr MacLaine becomes very disillusioned...
Advantages: Funny, will make you laugh out loud Disadvantages: None I can think of
...I am quite a fan of the Little Black Dress series of books, so I decided to have a browse on Amazon for ones which sounded like a good read. I came across this one after a while, and it had rave reviews. Also, on a book forum I am a member of, they couldn't recommend it highly enough to me so I decided I would have to get it to have a go. And as usual, the book didn't disappoint!
"She'll Take It" tells us the story of Melanie Zeitgar, a woman living in New York City with dreams of becoming a world famous actress. But Melanie has a downfall...she has a penchant for stealing things. Not enormously expensive items you understand, just the odd sweater from Barneys or the odd pillow from the Homewares shop. But Melanie can't stop, even when a man comes into her life whose job in life is to help shops detect thieves. Will he suss out...
Advantages: Sensitively deals with grief Disadvantages: Can be upsetting
...I'll Always Love You is the most bittersweet children's picture book that I have read. It is also the best book that I have found to help children deal with feelings of grief and talk about bereavement.
* The Front Cover *
On the front cover of the book is a watercolour picture showing the back of a child with their arm around a rather podgy looking dog. The two are sitting on the ground and leaves are blowing about, giving the picture an autumnal feel.
* The Story *
The story starts with the sentence "This is a story about Elfie - the best dog in the whole world." The first page is illustrated with a picture of a baby boy sitting in his babygro on the floor, next to a puppy. The boy and puppy are sharing the dog's dinner.
The boy and Elfie grow up together, but Elfie grows at a faster rate than the boy. The boy explains...
Advantages: brilliant voice great songs Disadvantages: none that i know of.
...Well this album has got to be one of the best, this is Faith Hill there you'll be. I bought this for £12.99 from HMV but it can also be bought from tesco, asda, Andy's records and any supermarket for near enough the same price if not allot cheaper. The album comes with a inlay book that has all the song words and information on eah song. It has faith hill on the front looking straight at you and has a red and yellow colour to it with faith hill written in tilted writing, with the name there you'll be in red writing. And on the back it tells you the name of each song title. This also has a picture of faith hill on it but on this one she is looking towards the right. this is a goldy colour.
How many songs and what are they like?
1) There you'll be
This song is complete soft its something you would listen to, to wined down from...
Advantages: None I can see Disadvantages: Far too many to list
.... With little thought or effort Davey cuts his own throat and dies in the bath.
Initially Davey may seem insignificant, but Davey's brother is a different matter altogether. Three years prior Will ran London's east end from a crime related perspective, he was feared by everyone and made Ron and Reggie Kray look like toy soldiers. But suddenly something happened and Will had a nervous breakdown, he left the city and drove around the countryside in a van.
Now Will is aware of what has happened to Davey, now Will is back??.

On paper I'll Sleep When I'm Dead sounds like a fantastic idea...
Advantages: Lyrically Inspired, No Bad Tracks! Disadvantages: You'll never be able to stop listening!
...This is the Number ONE debut album from indie Coventry boys The Enemy. I bought the album 3 hours before they played at the Coventry Godiva festival and I am also seeing them at Leeds festival! This album is definitly the best debut album I have heard this year.
We\'ll live and die in these towns (named after a graffiti tag spray painted in a toilet) is full of great songs, musically and lyrically. Everybody has heard "Away From Here" and "Had Enough" on the radio. Catchy to say the least, these were good choices or single releases, but werent by far the best on the album.
Tom Clarke (Lead Vocals and Guitar) sings about the bands experience, working 9-5 to get minimum wage and growing up on the streets of Coventry. There are a number of simple yet catchy guitar riffs, mimicked by Andy Hopkins, (Backing vocals and Bass...
Advantages: 14 original early LL Cool J hits which made him a star Disadvantages: His tone of voice remains the same throughout the entire album
...heard it I just had to bounce, it made me happy, cheerful. Rap music had never done that to me before, and this was "cool" music to listen to.
Some of the tracks on this album are quite hard, in that the lyrics are almost being shouted out by LL Cool J, but they also blend in with the tunes in the background, making them into proper songs rather than freestyle type jibber! Examples of this would be; Funkadelic Relic, Buckin' Em Down, and Soul Survivor. All great tunes. Tunes which had me listening to the album whenever possible (ofcourse, I had to tape the album onto cassette first).
I knew from this album that LL Cool J was going to be huge in the growing rap music industry, and he certainly didn't dissapoint. My memries of this album represent, evolution from a school boy, into a college boy. It definately played a part in...
Advantages: Classic Hip Hop Disadvantages: A couple of the tunes are a little weak
..."Radio" is the debut release from LL Cool J, a rapper who has stuck with his record label, Def Jam since its creation a year before this album came out. LL's 1985 record came 23 years before his latest release "Exit 13" which recently came out, and so clearly this one shows how long he's been in the game, and the progression he has made. Upon release, Ladies Love Cool James (LL Cool J), the MC was only 17 years old, and had shown strong potential, which he clearly lived up to.
1. "I Can't Live Without My Radio"
The track which the album is named after is the one to get things started for this album as you have LL Cool J come on some hard Rick Rubin beats about how his life revolves around his radio, and the music which it plays for him. Thsi is a powerful way to kick it all off, and you are bound to enjoy it.
