Get Back to Nature....... and Have Some Fun by the Loch
Advantages: Plenty to do, lots of nature, quality time with the family
Disadvantages: None
...We recently decided the have a healthy, fun, family day out. Having visited Loch Katrine a few years earlier we decided this would be the idea place to meet all our needs for a lovely day out. The last time we visited we hired bikes to cycle around the loch but this time we decided to take our own bikes.
Loch Katrine is a bit of a hidden gem. She is situated 8 Miles from Callander along the A821 through Brig o' Turk or alternatively 7 miles from Aberfoyle again along the A821 but this time travelling through the Duke's Pass, quite a narrow winding road but beautiful and scenic nevertheless.
The Loch is set in the heart of the Trossachs and is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by rolling, heather covered hills and many different species of trees. It is also so unbelievably quiet and peaceful, almost as if the hills are sheltering...

The Loch of the Swine.
Advantages: Great scenery, and low level walking suitable for all.
Disadvantages: Higher level walking for experienced hillwalkers only.
...a different route. Okay then, it’ll be the latter.
A right turn here takes you north north west towards Bachnagairn. The waterfalls are superb. Bachnagairn Lodge is shown on the maps, but is in fact only a few remaining foundation stones. From here to the top of the plateau is the steepest, and the most indistinct, part of the route, so take your time and take care.
Soon you approach two huts, and here you will find the junction with the path from Loch Muick to Broad Cairn. Turn right (east) and follow the track until the Loch once more comes into view. And from here, what a view it is! Looking down from some 2100 feet the water below can be rich blue or black as night, depending on the weather. On a gloomy day, a shaft of sunlight picking out the wooded grounds of remote Glas-allt-Shiel is a sight to treasure. This sumptuous lodge has...

Kiss Me, [Loch] Kate!
Advantages: Lovely scenery, lovely walk, just lovely
Disadvantages: We missed the boat!
...We've just returned from Scotland. It was our first visit there, and frankly, despite the midges, and partially because of the rain, we found it to be lovely. One of the more picturesque places we visited was Loch Katrine, and since no one else here has bothered to tell anyone about it, I thought I might give it a try.
Where and What is Loch Katrine?
Loch Katrine is located almost smack dab in the middle of Scotland's most lovely Trossarchs National Park, on the north-western edge of the Trossarchs' Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, and nestling to the north of Ben Venue (729 meters high) and Ben Bhreac (700) on its eastern tip, and to the south of Meall Mor (747) and Stob a'Choin (865) on its most western point. On the map, this is a backwards tilde shaped loch (a tilde is this symbol ~, for those who don't know), or - if you will...

Experience the beauty of Loch Laggan
Advantages: Lovely scenery
Disadvantages: The midges
...Sometimes it seems that there are breathtaking views on every bend of the road in the Scottish Highlands but I generally find that it is the ones that are a little off the beaten track that are the most memorable as there is always that feeling that one has discovered that view for the very first time.
Off the beaten track is not really a description that can be applied to Loch Laggan since the A86 road runs along more or less the full 16km length of its northern shores. This is one of the main routes to Fort William but it is a slower journey than the other routes so many tourists tend to avoid it.
Loch Laggan is a freshwater loch that boasts the largest freshwater beach in the British Isles. Its soft golden sands are enough to rival many of the great coastal beaches of Britain but sadly this beach is largely out of bounds as it...

Loch Fyne - delicious!
Advantages: Fantastic food, great service, lovely atmosphere
Disadvantages: none
...Loch Fyne in Nottingham, one of 49 branches in the country, is situated right in the city centre in a great location on King Street. Transport links are great, with a multi-storey car park a few hundred yards down the road, as well as the taxi ranks, bus stops and tram stops.
The restaurant is small, but nicely furnished, and offers a good variety of seafood dishes. The decor is lovely inside, and the staff are always warm and welcoming. The food is always of a very high standard, but the atmosphere remains relaxed and friendly.
Although Loch Fyne specialises in using the finest seafood ingredients, there are always one or two alternative options for those who are not keen on fish. However, in general the restaurant would not be recommended for those who are not keen on seafood! The dishes include fish such as salmon, sole, lobster...

Delicious Loch Fyne
Advantages: Fresh and fantastic seafood
Disadvantages: Extremely slow waiter service.
...If anyone asks me 'So where do you feel like eating tonight?' my instant response is always " Loch Fyne!"
This Scottish chain restaurant is an absolute must for seafood lovers. Even if you don't know many people who like seafood drag them there because I guarantee they will enjoy it as much as you.
Loch Fyne itself is a scenic Loch in Scotland in Cairndow, and all the produce you will see in the restaurant is shipped over night from this location.
The restaurant itself it located in Guildford's old Centenary Hall , a beautiful listed building in the centre of town which really encapsulates the feel of Guildford itself. Upon entry there is a small seating area by a bar where you can order a pre dinner drink and wait for your table to be ready. You are then lead up the stairs to the dining area which is full of lovely wooden beams...

Loch Ness is huge
Advantages: beautiful scenery, interesting history and attractions
Disadvantages: add good weather to fully enjoy
...I visited Loch Ness in May. This was my second visit. The first time we visited was a brief drive-by on the way up to the Scottish Highlands a few years ago. This time we stayed at a hotel in Pitlochry, which was about 2 hours drive away. A little further away than we had planned, (we didn't realise that most of the tourist attractions were situated on east side of the Loch). So we had to drive up towards Inverness and then round, through the city, to drive down the opposite shore, which all added to the travel time.
Even though the journey was longer than expected, the scenery certainly made up for it. Rolling hills, looming moutains, and deep valleys. We caught glimpses of the water between the branches of trees that were screening the Loch from the roadside. When we saw the Loch at it's full glory, it was was like looking...

Loch Ness Monster hunting
Advantages: Beauty and peace with something for everyone
Disadvantages: I can't think of any
...Loch Ness is arguably the best known of the Scottish lochs, due to the monster who supposedly lives there, know as Nessie to her friends! Whether you choose to believe in the existence of the Loch Ness Monster or not is up to you but you cannot deny the beauty of the loch and the surrounding area.
Loch Ness stretches from Inverness in the north to Fort Augustus in the south, a distance of some 24 miles, it reaches a depth of 754 feet at its deepest point and is about one mile wide.
Fort Augustus is a village built around the six locks, which enable boats to make the descent from the Caledonian Canal into Loch Ness. The fort (of Fort Augustus) was built after the Jacobite uprising in 1715 and named after the then Duke of Cumberland, Prince William Augustus. The site of the fort is now occupied by the 19th century St Benedictine’s...

Bravehear and Lochness
Advantages: Beatiful scenery, relaxing atmoshpere, No junk food
Disadvantages: none
...I have just returned from a fabulous trip to the Scottish Highlands. I have now seen the “Braveheart” country, the Macbeth county of Inverness and of course the world famous Loch Ness which supposedly is the home to the Loch Ness monster alias Nessie.
The Scottish Highlands have so much to offer.... Spectacular mountains, tumbling rivers, lochs (lakes) and crystal-clear seas scattered with beautiful islands. The car journey from Kilmarnock to the pretty village of Drumnadrochit, on the shores of Loch ness has been the most wonderful experience and unforgettable event. The long winding road, with lush green forests and steep hills on the one side and the wide crystal clear Loch Lomend on the other present a heavenly view.
Legend has it that the Highlanders, have always roamed the glens and mountains as free as the wind...
