Loch Ness is huge
Advantages: beautiful scenery, interesting history and attractions
Disadvantages: add good weather to fully enjoy
...I visited Loch Ness in May. This was my second visit. The first time we visited was a brief drive-by on the way up to the Scottish Highlands a few years ago. This time we stayed at a hotel in Pitlochry, which was about 2 hours drive away. A little further away than we had planned, (we didn't realise that most of the tourist attractions were situated on east side of the Loch). So we had to drive up towards Inverness and then round, through the city, to drive down the opposite shore, which all added to the travel time.
Even though the journey was longer than expected, the scenery certainly made up for it. Rolling hills, looming moutains, and deep valleys. We caught glimpses of the water between the branches of trees that were screening the Loch from the roadside. When we saw the Loch at it's full glory, it was was like looking...

Loch Ness Monster hunting
Advantages: Beauty and peace with something for everyone
Disadvantages: I can't think of any
...Loch Ness is arguably the best known of the Scottish lochs, due to the monster who supposedly lives there, know as Nessie to her friends! Whether you choose to believe in the existence of the Loch Ness Monster or not is up to you but you cannot deny the beauty of the loch and the surrounding area.
Loch Ness stretches from Inverness in the north to Fort Augustus in the south, a distance of some 24 miles, it reaches a depth of 754 feet at its deepest point and is about one mile wide.
Fort Augustus is a village built around the six locks, which enable boats to make the descent from the Caledonian Canal into Loch Ness. The fort (of Fort Augustus) was built after the Jacobite uprising in 1715 and named after the then Duke of Cumberland, Prince William Augustus. The site of the fort is now occupied by the 19th century St Benedictine’s...

Loch Ness by Tour Boat
Advantages: Beautiful Scenery
Disadvantages: Not as natural as I had hoped
...In August 2004 I was lucky enough to go on a 3 week tour of Scotland, and being a tourist I had to see Loch Ness. Carrying the sandwiches as my two trusty companions were weighed down with photograghic equipment. We boarded the pleasure craft just outside Inverness and marvelled at the views. At one point my son thought he saw Nessie but alas, on closer inspection we found it to be a buoy! Although the bagpipes are know for their ability to scare off the monster, the tourist commentary played music for nearly three hours, which became a little annoying to say the least.
I am not sure what I expected really. Part of the loch was beautiful. It was wide (but not as wide as I had imagined) with natural twists and curves. The sun lit the water and made shadows through the trees and apart for the bagpipes I felt quited relaxed...

Castles And Monsters In A Magical Glen!
Advantages: Fantastic Scenery
Disadvantages: Quite Remote, Slow Journey Times So No Good If You Are In A Hurry
...The whole area around Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands holds magical memories for me. I remember when I was a small child standing for hours on the shores of this vast Loch with a pair of binoculars in my hand hoping to get a glimpse of "Nessie" the mythical monster which was said to lurk within its murky waters. With every ripple from a passing boat or trail from a Seabird or Seal I would go scurrying back to my Mum and Dad's Camper Van with an exaggerated tale of what I had just seen.
Of course I never really did see Nessie but standing and staring across the water it is easy to let your imagination run wild.
The Location
Lock Ness lies within a natural geographical fault called the Great Glen. There are actually four different Lochs within the Great Glen but Loch Ness is by far the largest and most famous of these. If you...

The Loch Ness Monsters
Advantages: There are nine full episodes
Disadvantages: They only last five minutes each, but there is a lot of good theme tune...
...I was looking through the Ciao childrens video reviews, and realised there weren't that many, so thought I best help by putting in a few of my own. So, I shall be telling you about The Family Ness. This was something of a childhood favourite for me, and hopefully for many others too.
The basic storyline for the series was about Elspeth and Angus, who live with their father by Loch Ness. They make friends with the local family of Loch Ness monsters, who give them both a 'Thistle Whistle' for if they are ever in trouble. As you can guess, every episode ends up with the two children using the whistles to avoid some major mishaps.
On this particular video, there are nine episodes of the cartoon, each lasting around five minutes, which makes it ideal for those with short concentration spans. This also means that you get to meet...

A Breathtaking Romantic Scottish Ruin!
Advantages: Views like no other
Disadvantages: None
...We often tour Scotland visiting the many spectacular sights there are to visit and enjoy. One of my favourite castles is Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness. This castle has one of the most breathtaking settings.
Formed many years ago by glaciers during the ice age Loch Ness is approximately 700 feet deep and is one of the lochs situated in the 60 mile long Great Glen. Probably the most famous of lochs, Loch Ness gives Urquhart Castle its romantic and mysterious air bringing many visitors to the castle in the hope of catching a glimpse of Nessie, the Loch Ness monster!
This spectacular ruined castle, once one of Scotland's largest, is set high on a rocky peninsula on the North bank of Loch Ness giving stunning views of the Loch. Although quite a ruined castle, the ruins are very extensive and there are many places to...

Nessie is loose in Lake Placid!
Advantages: Performances of Krause, Davis and McGillion
Disadvantages: Special effects - at least you can't see the strings
...Being from Inverness, there is a bit of a fascination with Loch Ness and the monster legend for all of us locals. I am a firm believer that there is something in the Loch, but no-one knows what is there. I have visited the Loch many times over the years and have never seen anything,
So when I say this DVD on sale on Amazon for the princely sum of £5.48, I just had to buy it out of curiosity! And not to mention the fact that it stars Brian Krause and Paul McGillion (two actors that make me go a bit weak at the knees!).
***Synopsis***
The film begins on the shores of Loch Ness in the 1970's. Dr Michael Murphy (McGillion) finds an egg within the loch and tries to take that egg for further analysis. He is aided by his two assistants and his son James. Suddenly a creature comes out of the loch ... it's Nessie! Dr Murphy...

Beware of the Kelpie (Nessie)
Advantages: Beautiful area
Disadvantages: Nessie might get you
...In my younger days when I was around 18/19, it was Club 18-30 holidays. At the time they were told by the government to tone it down. We went away for a two week break and it was complete mayhem. If I had to do that now, I think I would be back on the first plane home.
Now Loch Ness is a lovely place in the Highlands of Scotland. When Gary said to me come on lets go up to Scotland, I was not very impressed, I wanted to go abroad. We comprimised and to keep the peace I said I would try it the once and no more.
We set of from Warrington and the traffic was really bad and it took us an extra two hours then what it should have done. We reached Glen Coe and he said is that not just so beautiful. Me still not impressed told him if I wanted to look at green stuff, we should have camped out in our back garden for a week. I was muttering...

Scottish, English and Irish
Advantages: Incredible scenary
Disadvantages: None
...was, at the time always on BBC with the balloon floating over it. You stated this on the itinerary. We looked around from the outside and thought we may just go and visit inside the next day if we had time.
I remember the castle ruins surrounded by green grass and the blue water behind it.
We then went to Loch Ness ? it was all I thought it would be, and more. The inky waters were so still and so black, in fact the water looked extremely black.
We looked in earnest for the monster, with camera poised, but he was once again camera shy, in fact we commented on how the water?s shadows and colour could encapsulate that image of moving creatures when perhaps there were none there.
For who really knows whether Nessie is there or not!
We talked and thought about John Cobb who had lost his life while trying to beat a world record...

I Am More Than Just An Inflatable Woman.
Advantages: Much, much more than just a monster-haunt.
Disadvantages: None, unless you are afraid of monsters.
...{Brief introduction by Aspen: It’s not often I get email from a monster. And I would have ignored it, had it not contained such a heartfelt plea. But the obvious pain and suffering incurred in the arduous use of the keyboard with webbed feet, brought a tear to my eye. And the genuine love for Loch Ness and its environs struck a chord, as did the plea for peace and quiet, and the largely-unheeded cry that the Great Glen has so much more to offer than just an obsession with one shy creature.
I make no apology, therefore, for presenting in full, this email from Nessie.}
Dear Aspen
Forgive me for approaching you like this. But as you have an interest in things Scottish, and write occasionally on Ciao, I hoped you could publicise my plight.
My loch is famed throughout the world. Tourists come in droves, in a vain...
