Logitech Harmony 525 Advanced Universal Remote

...The Logitech Harmony 525 Advanced Universal Remote is used to control multiple devices in audio and visual systems (ie your tv, video, digital box, music players etc) Currently we use one to control an AV receiver, digital box and projector. Personally i think this is the best one i've used. Although initially to set up takes a bit of time (you have to load a program onto a computer and then add devices to the remote using the provided usb cable), the time it saves in day to day use and the practicality of one remote makes it a worthwhile task. If there is not a system listed that you want to control it has a neat feature which allow you to add other 'unknown' remote signals - its so easy - you just tell it you're going to add an 'unknown' and then point the 'unknown' systems remote at the logitech remote and it asks...

Universal remote that you need

Advantages: Simple to use, great interface, simple to program
Disadvantages: None

...can assign different functions to different buttons if you want. Very flexible and easy to use. There are more complicated and more expensive models but this is more than enough for an average household with 4-5 boxes under the TV. Logitech database is great and it is more than likely that your devices are already there and universal remote will pick up settings from their web site. Wholeheartedly recommended product. The best universal remote control that I've tried

Advantages: Completes complex source switching with a single keystroke
Disadvantages: Not much

...I have a complex AV system that has separate audio and video signal paths. This makes switching sources a nightmare that involves multiple remote controls and a lot of concentration. I have tried many programmable remotes over the years (three in the last 2 years) and this Logitech Harmony product stands head and shoulders above the rest. The set up requires a PC or MAC. I found the software excellent. Initially the software asks for the make and model numbers of the devices you want to operate. Logitech have a huge library of devices (they claim 175,000+). If your device is not there it has the ability to learn from the original R/C. Then you can set up activities listing the devices involved and the initial setting for each. Great remote at a low price

Advantages: Does everything you could want
Disadvantages: Small screen makes finding options difficult

...This is an absolutely great remote given it's cost. I used to have an One for All Kameleon which cost a lot more money than this. Setup was very very easy using the Software given and within 30 minutes I had a remote control which did exactly what I wanted. I use this to control my TV, Amplifier, BluRay DVD, Xbox 360 and Virgin Media Box. Every function of each device is catered for on the remote and the ability for the remote to transmit to more than 1 device at a time without having to switch any settings on it is fantastic. There are a couple of downsides to this remote. The first is the screen is very small in comparison to some others and scrolling through the pages to get to some of the more unique features of a device can be a pain, but overall this is great and well worth the investment...

Wii Remote Controller

Advantages: Innovation, Responsiveness
Disadvantages: Price, Ease Of Use

...I purchased the Nintendo Wii after weeks of searching the internet for a shop that hadnt sold out and once i found one available i bought it immediately. The package came with Wii sports and a remote controller and i have to say that i was quite impressed. The controllers work well with the console and in particular with wii sports. The biggest issue that i have with the remote is the battery issue. Whilst the batteries do last a long time when installed, to keep replacing them costs a fortune. I also have had this problem with my xbox 360 wireless controllers and would recommend anybody who was buying the controllers to also consider a quick charge kit to accompany it. The unit is very responsive and works very well, this depends on where you put the sensor that is supplied with the wii so make sure that you read the manual carefully...

Advantages: Looks cool, apparently reasonalby priced, does the job (nearly)

...My dad got one of these for Xmas and we have just spent the whole evening trying to set it up, so I just had to get it all off my chest and tell you about it. The idea of this device is that it controls all your AV equipment so you only ever need the one remote. This is high tech kit, and you do need wireless broadband to set it up and a degree in IT. We had the first.... First things first, this device looks great - it's made of brushed aluminium and it has a full colour touch screen. It's seriously space age. According to the techy boffin who bought this, it is good value for money at £213 (OMG - HOW much nail polish could you buy for that??) and much better than the Phillips Pronto. I merely pass that on. OK - the set up. Now I can do most home-orientated IT things. I was glad I was not alone with this one. Like one hour...

The controller is extreamly suffisticated as well as all of the normal buttons which are used for conventional gameplay it also contains a gyroscope which monitors its position and movements in six axis, clever hey. The sxiaxis motion control offers a new way to play games and makes things more interesting and more challenging. For example when playing a racing game with a friend and we get a little bored we may play a game where we just use the motion control which makes it alot more challenging and adds alot of amusement. The suspense in the book is in some chapters absolutely amazing with the reader not knowing which way it is going to go and it is literally impossible to put the book down. However, at the “end” of the chase you finally think that it is all over and everyone is going to live happily ever after when the story takes another dramatic turn and shoots off once again to keep you hanging on to the last page. All in all an excellent read full of action, suspense and drama. There’s even a little bit of comedy thrown in here and there for good measure. My only regret is that I read Crisis 4 before Remote Control as it spoilt...
