The Forgotten

Advantages: interesting idea
Disadvantages: already seen in X Files

...It is amazing how Brooklyn neighborhood looks Gothic, in the film ?The Forgotten?, like we are not talking about that part of New York. Julianne Moore looks beautiful, in the environment of the fall shadings, when it comes to a set film design. This entirely new Julianne Moore star vehicle, "The Forgotten" starts off as thriller that plays around with vanishing memory. But after its intriguing setup, it flies off totally unexpectedly into a wildly different direction. After a promising start, this missing-child film, from director Joseph Ruben enters into a clone of an other one utter "X-Files" episode. However, Julianne Moore's character gets you emotionally drawn, as you start watching the film, which is happening thanking to an actress, not the film itself. But yet, this is very powerful story about strong connection between...

LUXURY IN LONDON!

Advantages: Brilliant rooms, service, food, internet etc
Disadvantages: expensive!!!

...In the middle of February, I was lucky enough to be whisked away for a long weekend in London with my grandma. I?m a huge fan of west end shows and musicals, and so our trip was booked- we would go and see various different shows. I couldn?t wait to go. One thing I hadn?t thought of before going however was which hotel we were staying in. I reckoned that we wouldn?t be spending too much time in the hotel itself, as we were going to be very busy, so as long as it had two beds, a bathroom and some sort of wardrobe I?d have been happy. I knew the name of the hotel was The Grosvenor, however I didn?t have a clue what its reviews were like, or in fact how many stars it had. Getting to the hotel We had absolutely no problem finding the hotel. We took the train from our hometown, to King?s Cross in London. We only had to wait...

THE FORGOTTEN SOLDIER.

Advantages: A detailed personal account, extremely readable.
Disadvantages: Minor vagueness in parts, Very graphic in its bloody nature.

...I tend to avoid military biographies and doubly so if they cannot be corroborated for authenticity. "The Forgotten Soldier" is one of these books. First published in 1967 in France and then translated into English in 1971. "The Forgotten Soldier" has been heralded as a unique insight into a German soldier's experiences and horror of serving in the German army on the Russian front. Guy Sajer is a 16 year-old half French half German youth living in Alsace at the outbreak of war. He was recruited into the German army in 1942; he joined up due to his admiration for the German army who had marched into France in 1940. Having never lived in Germany and only having a basic grasp of the German language didn't deter him from his ambition. After initially failing to become a Stuka dive bomber he was shunted into the army and ended up...

THE FORGOTTEN? - I ALREADY HAVE!

Advantages: watchable
Disadvantages: disappointing, bit of a let down

...After seeing the trailers for The Forgotten and missing it at the cinema I decided to buy the DVD as the film looked interesting. Basic Plotline +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Telly Paretta's son Sam is killed in a plane crash on his way to camp 14 months ago, along with 6 other children including Ash Correll's daughter Lauren. Telly is seeing a shrink about this and he tries to get her to stop looking at Sams stuff and photos, in order to wean herself off the memories. Not too far into the film, Telly is told by her husband and shrink, that Sam never existed and that she is delusional and has been for 10 years since having a miscarriage. Telly refuses to believe this because her memories are so strong and so sets out to find something to prove that her son did exist, however every phot and video has been removed...

Review of The Forgotten (DVD)

The Forgotten... (not quite)

Advantages: Good plot/entertainment..
Disadvantages: Not the best acting in the world, but to me OK..

...The Forgotten is a DVD film that has been around for some time now, but it is one I hadn't seen until recently. I bought it in Virgin's superstore as part of their 3 DVDs-for-a-£20 offer. I took it home to watch and then decided to write this, my first film review. Something I'd never thought I would attempt, because I suppose I am a bit of an escapist and love films that take me away from mundane reality, regardless of how well they are acted. The film opens with overhead shots from the sky of New York City as if one flying over it in an aircraft or is it a UFO? Then we meet the protagonist Telly Paretta, played by Julianne Moore, talking with her therapist, trying to come to terms with the loss of her small son Sam who died in an air crash. As the plot unfolds reasonably quickly, we see that it is not Telly who has "forgotten...

Forgotten Editing

Advantages: Pleasant story, nice enough characters, satisfactory ending, no bad language or explicit details
Disadvantages: Long-winded, over-complex, too much detail about the past

...mother, who abandoned her as a child but who is staying long-term in one of her cottages, and her half-sister Jemima who lives not far away. Jemima also likes her own space, and although she's had a series of casual relationships she considers herself mistress material rather than wanting to settle down. But suddenly she meets someone on the rebound from another woman, and she starts to fall in love with him against her better judgement. So there's the seeds of a pleasant 'aga-saga' type of family story, and that's what I was expecting. This is Marcia Willett's eleventh novel, and while - unlike some of the critics - I don't consider her in Rosamunde Pilcher's league, she generally writes enjoyable heart-warming stories that have upbeat endings and characters I can care about. Unfortunately I found 'Forgotten Laughter' to be...

Review of Forgotten Laughter - Marcia Willett

Do you know one of the Forgotten?

Advantages: Mood, story idea and acting
Disadvantages: Reveals too much too soon

...The Forgotten are those who die and slowly but surely fade from your memory. Friends and family you loved, and mourned, but need to forget for the sake of your sanity and your own life. The body needs to repair itself from mental injury as much as physical and the ?removal? of certain memories can save us from the continual pain and sadness they cause. The Forgotten is based around this idea. Telly (Julianne Moore ? Hannibal, The Ideal Husband) and Jim Paretta?s (Anthony Edwards ? ER, Northfork & Top Gun) son, Sam, died in a plane crash while heading off on a camping trip with other children. 14 months later she is still haunted by Sam?s death and is seeing a psychologist to help her cope. She cannot forget him and cannot get on with her life while still mourning. She seems to be finally coming to terms with things, started work...

LONDON'S CALLING

Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location
Disadvantages: Views from room

...eateries/drinking places and chose 372, which offers carvery selection. I was surprise how hot and fresh the food was. Not only that it was tasty too! We opted for lamb with roast potatoes, new potatoes and three vegetables. However, my only complaint about the meal was the vegetables; they were a tad on the raw side for my liking. That said I ALWAYS OVER cook my veggies. Dessert was for me home made apple pie and cream, while the other half opted for home made cheesecake ? both were consumed without any complaints and very much enjoyed. Our meal for two with drinks cost £29) Hotel: the hotel it situated in the Strand which is in central London and easy to walk to theatres such as the Aldwych, Lyceum, and many more. Come out the front of the hotel and turn right, and you?ll be heading towards Trafalgar square with Nelson, bear left and you...

London

Advantages: Education
Disadvantages: Exspensive City Accommodation

...We arrived at London St Pancras and for a split second we questioned ourselves, is this actually St Pancras. The train came to a standstill. Immediately we were overwhelmed with the swish new surroundings and by the grandeur of a once, shadowy and very old tarnished rail station; St Pancras had been transformed. This State of the art new construction towered over us and blended in perfect with the old structure. St Pancras had become another world of unrecognizable architecture; it had been modernized and instantly brought into the 20th century, though still retaining the original character of old. We boarded our underground train, the northern line, the 3 D line, Dark; Dingy and Dirty. Next stop the jubilee line or could it be the orient express. What dissimilarity, It was far more contemporary than the northern line...

Forgotten Voices of The Great War

Advantages: Very emotional and truthful book - with accounts, extra context and pictures
Disadvantages: Can get very emotipanl and rather painful to read at times - the truth can hurt

...I am currently studying history at A level and am very interested in the two world wars and have bought so many different information and text books with information on these wars. These have all been useful to not only my studies, but also in my own personal research and interest in the subject, one that is very emotional and important to me and the history of not only this country, but the whole world. However this book is very different and recounts the war as it was - it is basically a collection of diary extracts from hundreds of different people who were alive and involved in the war - either fighting on the front line or helping on the home front. This book is therefore far more truthful and revealing about the truth and is extremely emotional and shocking. Forgotten voices of the great war: A history of ww1 in the words of men...
