...Two weeks ago I found myself at a very boring conference in London. Having spent an almost sleepless night in a main-road hotel above a train station, I was in danger of dozing off. Outside, however, the skies were clear and blue and the temperatures unseasonably warm. I waited ‘til twelve, took advantage of the free lunch and then legged it to Trafalgar Square to take an open top bus tour round the capital for the rest of the afternoon. The first bus to come along was the Big Bus Tour. I would have got on it whatever the price and wherever it was going in truth, but I was very pleased to discover that for £15 quid I was entitled to 3 bus tours and 1 boat ride up the Thames as many times as I wanted over the next 24 hours. Stranded in London!

Advantages: Excellent central location; good bars and restaurants
Disadvantages: Rooms a bit old fashioned; a little pricey

...stacked high with a traditional beef or lamb or turkey (or all three!) roast, carved by a very friendly and funny chef who served us. As mentioned earlier, Covent Garden is less than 5 minutes walk away (the tube station a couple of minutes more), and most of the theatres are within 5 minutes walk. It was an ideal place to stay. During the day we did the cheesy tourist thing and got on one of the tour buses (a stop is just around the corner from the hotel). We also went on the London eye, but got to this using the tour bus, but I believe it is around 15 minutes walk from the hotel. All in all a good central location for siteseeing and theatre breaks, hence giving it a recommendation, but a little disappointed in the room (especially after paying for a "club" upgrade). Within the past few years, london's buses have been completely transformed, and many londoners now prefer them to the tube. CHARGES / TICKETS Bus pricing was always v. complex, and Im sure it put people off. A simplified sturcture was put in place, and it now operates on a flat fare basis. A shame if you are only going a few stops, but usually works out a good deal. Tickets are now about £1.20 or £0.80 if you use a pre-paid oystercard. This covers almost all routes (except special services, eg to Heathrow). These are cheap, but were even cheaper before this year. You can also buy day tickets for £3 and weekly tickets for £10. LUXURY IN LONDON!

I?m a huge fan of west end shows and musicals, and so our trip was booked- we would go and see various different shows. I couldn?t wait to go. ...Well, what a shame, is all I can say! Okay I can say more... The original of this film I saw years ago on TV, and it was pretty good, led by Frankie Howerd in one of (if not THE) earliest performances of his career (the film was released originally in 1954). I was keen to see the film based on his being in it, and becaus eit also has Margaret Rutherford, one of my favourite actresses in also. The plot is essentially that frankie Howerd's charcter is a bus driver, and due to foggy condition, he must take a bus of air passengers via road from one airport to the next. the consequences are quite hilarious, although a few of the best scenes were unfortuately cut from the DVD version. Another note regarding the difference between the original and the DVD version is the quality of the film, which to be honest is not grat on the DVD. I...
