Novotel Euston, London
Advantages: Extremely helpful staff, very high standard
Disadvantages: None
...I had decided to treat my mother to a weekend break in London and upon researching various hotels on the internet chose the Novotel Euston (formerly Bernard Shaw Plaza).
The cost was £79 for a twin en-suite including full english breakfast for two which I thought was very reasonable.
Upon arrival we were very impressed with the exterior and interior of the hotel, the staff were extremely helpful and courteous.
The hotel has a panoramic lift which if you take up the the sixteen floor has wonderful views of London, including the London Eye and Canary Wharf .
The room itself was spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
We ordered room service for Saturday supper which was brought up promptly, average cost of a meal was £13 and the food was superb. Menu offers a good choice on British and International...

Ibis Hotel Euston London
Advantages: Very close to the station/underground
Disadvantages: none
...The Ibis Hotel
3 Cardington Street - NW1 2LW - LONDON - UNITED KINGDOM
Tel : (+44)207/3887777 Fax : (+44)207/3880001
I recently had the pleasure of staying in one of the IBIS hotels.
This one was a minute walk from Euston station, which is so convenient. Also close enough for the famous Bond Street and Oxford Street for some fantastic shopping.
This hotel has 380 climate controlled rooms, 8 accessible rooms a bar, which serves snacks 24 hours a day, a restaurant, which serves fantastic food.
On arriving at the Ibis, you are welcomed by a quite large lobby, which is clean and very bright and welcoming. The bar and restaurant are straight in front of you as you walk through the door, and the reception is to your right. There were 3 members of staff on so the queue was soon dealt with. The staff was very polite...

Best Budget Hotels in London
Advantages: Stylish, Clean, Excellent Staff
Disadvantages: None for me
...I'm a big fan of Ibis hotels and stay in them for both business and pleasure. I had, however, read a bad opinion of the London Euston branch, so when I found myself needing to stay in Euston the other night it was with slight trepidation that I booked the Ibis. I was hoping that my several excellent experiences of the Ibis chain would hold out against the one bad experience I'd read about.
LOCATION
The Ibis London Euston is in Cardington Street, literally at the side of Euston Station. Weary travelers can depart their train and be at their hotel in one minute.
Once in Cardington Street you can't miss the Ibis - it is a bright, stylish, continental looking building in an otherwise unprepossessing grey road.
Unlike many London hotels, the Ibis Euston has a car park at the rear, and if drivers follow signs to Euston Station...

Euston Ibis - a disappointment!
Advantages: Cleanliness; pleasant main hotel and rooms.
Disadvantages: Apalling catering and service arrangements.
...We booked the London Euston Ibis for a one night stay at the end of May. We had previously stayed at many Ibis hotels in several countries on mainland Europe and had always been delighted with our experiences.
However, our first stay in a UK Ibis was a different experience altogether.
The hotel itself and our room could not be faulted.
However, where this hotel fails miserably is in its standards of service and its catering arrangements. Despite being told over the telephone that restaurant service was available until midnight, this was in fact 2230 which scuppered our eating plans for the Saturday night. There was a large wall mounted bar food menu that promised an adequate meal 24 hours a day. However, when we went to order, we were told that the wall menu was no longer in operation and had been replaced by a significantly...

Thistle Euston - very disappointing :(
Advantages: Very handy for the train station
Disadvantages: Unexpected stairs that are difficult to yank your luggage up
...This weekend I celebrated my ma's 70th birthday by treating her, my son and moi to a weekend in London to see the Lion King.
My mum has never been well off and always put her kids, then grandkids first, like many many mums, so I wanted this to be extra extra special for her.
I booked first class train travel and that was just wonderful, she felt like royalty. I checked with Theatremonkey and booked top seats at the theatre where we had THE BEST view to an AWESOME performance (it should be made compulsary to go see it). London was buzzing, and they even laid on a bit of pomp and ceremony for us by way of Trooping the Colour (ta for that Queen) ..... So you see everything was pretty much perfect ....... but for the hotel.
I hadn't been able to stretch to a 5 star but had heard such great reviews about Thistle hotels that...

EUSTON - I THINK WE HAVE A PROBLEM
Advantages: Well placed, good facilities
Disadvantages: Poor standards
...Finding a decent hotel in Central London is a nightmare at the best of times. Finding one in the run up to Christmas is even worse. Despite the fact that I had planned my visit several weeks’ ago, the combined forces of Hogg Robinson, lastminute.com and laterooms.com were struggling to find anything remotely hospitable under £150. Finally, I managed to secure a discounted reservation with The Euston Plaza – a four star classic hotel located in Upper Woburn Place, just a stone’s throw from the train station.
Well, I can hear you asking now – disaster or delight?
Read on, and you will find out…
Background
The Euston Plaza hotel was opened in 1991 and is part of the London Plaza Hotel chain. The hotel occupies three floors of Georgian Terraces in the Bloomsbury district of the West End...

Just about on the right track
Advantages: Easy to get to, on-site and nearby parking, close to Euston station, high speed internet access in room
Disadvantages: Expensive parking, very small rooms, no Gordons Gin in the bar
...I naively assumed that getting accommodation at short notice in Central London would be easy - WRONG!!
No amount of trawling could throw up something with availability for three rooms. I thought I had struck gold when the Premier Travel Inn, Euston showed availability on-line, BUT by the time I got to confirming the rooms, they had gone.
The Thistle Euston was found on our behalf, at a rather steep £120 B&B it was this or nothing. Now I've stayed in a few Thistle hotels, and their quality does seem to vary somewhat, so it was with some trepidation that I set off on the 200 mile journey.
LOCATION & ACCESS
This hotel, as its name suggests, is literally a couple of hundred yards from Euston Station, and about 10 minutes walk from Euston Square Underground. So if approaching by public transport...

Home, home on the train
Advantages: Errr.... Near Euston?
Disadvantages: Near Euston, expensive, small rooms, tatty facilities, dodgy location
...This weekend just gone it was one of my missus' mates' birthdays, and as is the norm we all decided to go out on a fun night of drinking. Rather than shell out the extortiante taxi fare home (at least £35 back to my part of West London!), we decided to book a hotel in advance and then wander home on the tube the next day.
Booking the Hotel
--------------------------
We booked the hotel through Lastminute.com's Secret Hotels. The idea behind this is that in return for not knowing the hotels' name until you have booked, you get cheaper rates on the room. The Thistle was described as a 4 star hotel just behind Tottenham Court Road at a rate of only £69 - cheap for London. We booked there and then, and were a tad disappointed to say the least when we discovered we were staying at the Thistle. We have used the Secret Hotels before...

LUXURY IN LONDON!
Advantages: Brilliant rooms, service, food, internet etc
Disadvantages: expensive!!!
...In the middle of February, I was lucky enough to be whisked away for a long weekend in London with my grandma. I?m a huge fan of west end shows and musicals, and so our trip was booked- we would go and see various different shows. I couldn?t wait to go.
One thing I hadn?t thought of before going however was which hotel we were staying in. I reckoned that we wouldn?t be spending too much time in the hotel itself, as we were going to be very busy, so as long as it had two beds, a bathroom and some sort of wardrobe I?d have been happy. I knew the name of the hotel was The Grosvenor, however I didn?t have a clue what its reviews were like, or in fact how many stars it had.
Getting to the hotel
We had absolutely no problem finding the hotel. We took the train from our hometown, to King?s Cross in London. We only had to wait...

LONDON'S CALLING
Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location
Disadvantages: Views from room
...eateries/drinking places and chose 372, which offers carvery selection. I was surprise how hot and fresh the food was. Not only that it was tasty too! We opted for lamb with roast potatoes, new potatoes and three vegetables. However, my only complaint about the meal was the vegetables; they were a tad on the raw side for my liking. That said I ALWAYS OVER cook my veggies. Dessert was for me home made apple pie and cream, while the other half opted for home made cheesecake ? both were consumed without any complaints and very much enjoyed. Our meal for two with drinks cost £29)
Hotel: the hotel it situated in the Strand which is in central London and easy to walk to theatres such as the Aldwych, Lyceum, and many more. Come out the front of the hotel and turn right, and you?ll be heading towards Trafalgar square with Nelson, bear left and you...
